LG is gearing up against Apple, Samsung, and other top smartphone makers with their latest flagship, the V30: early impressions suggest that the company has a potential winner, as it pairs great performance (Snapdragon 835) with a beautiful, nearly bezel-less 6” 2880x1440 OLED screen display. The V30 is also the first smartphone to not only feature an f/1.6 lens but support T-Mobile’s 600MHz LTE band.

The LG V30 builds on the strengths of the OLED FullVision display in a body that is surprisingly compact, slim and light. Even with a large 6-inch 18:9 OLED FullVision display, the V30 is 8mm shorter and 3mm narrower than its predecessor, resulting in a firmer, more confident grip. With a thickness of only 7.3mm and tipping the scale at 158g, the V30 is the lightest among smartphones in the 6-inch and over category. The tempered glass that covers both the front and back is curved all the way around the edge, resulting in a sleek, integrated look and feel.

I really want to like it, but they took away the removable battery. It's basically a G6 with OLED and the SD835 - not that there's anything wrong with that.

But I was hoping that this phone would have a flat screen and removable battery - that's pretty much the only way I'd take it over an S8/Note 8.

But then again it's LG so it'll be under $300 with a trade-in immediately and under $300 without a trade-in in 2 months. And the V20 will continue to drop. I'll just be patient and keep an eye open.

and in 6 months it will be a pos like most other lg phones

One big point with my V20 was all that it could do with Audio and Video, and to make it a viable tool/back-up for those things, it had a removable battery. It is pretty much standard that people have an extra battery if they are really interested in the media thing. It was so easy to change batteries on the V20 with the quick release of the back panel. That V30 does not have that feature kills it for me. Although I am afraid that V20 will be the last top range model to have the feature. We'll sooner or later be relegated to wires and powerbanks for media work, and when the internal battery gets bad it will probably be some Apple-like sentiment about replacing it. The industry wants that. The users does not, but this is a case when User wants will not be answered... I think.

I've never had an LG last beyond the year warranty.
I just wish that someone would make a truly good ruggedized smart phone similar to the Casio G/zone stuff. I had a Ravine that just wouldn't die.

no removable battery or Ir blaster. I work emergencies sometimes and having multiple battery is a must for me. I'll stick with my V20 for awhile longer.

Which flagships are shipping with removable batteries again?

Sadly, I'm not aware of any. I'll take a flagship that has a semi-user removable battery like the Nexus 5. I have a tendency to, uh, break stuff and even I successfully replaced the battery on mine.

This will be a good competitor to the Galaxy S8+. For people who don't like Samsung a good alternative. And the camera aperture is largest ever.

Looks like I've found my new phone from LG, but T-Mobile? Noooooooooo!

Dunno why I'd choose this over a Samsung S8 or S8+ that came out about 1/2 a year ago, especially if it's in the same price range.
The camera is the only major difference... I don't care about the IR Blaster since it only works with LG's IR app which is a PoS.

The P-OLED screen is no advantage for me if they didn't improve it vastly since the last generation. I owned an LG G Flex 2 with their last generation P-OLED... it was horrible. It had major screen door effect like masking ( it was not uniform like a screen, but was more like randomish shaped patterns ) over the whole screen, so the brightness could not be turned down to "comfortable for night viewing" levels... when I used a third party app to add a grey overlay to the screen to dim it, the "screen doorish " effect was visible. However, if the brightness could be turned up the screen was perfectly acceptable.
Also because of that issue, it was a terrible google Cardboard device since the magnified view emphasized the flaw.

where's my QHD oled monitor ?

WTF is up with these guys cramming so many pixels in such a small fuckin phone. You can't see the pixels anymore. Shift some money to the computer monitor dept.

damn I want this ............. crazy specs, love it. I think this also has an audiophile DAC
