Nintendo has been ordered to pay $10 million after a jury found that the company infringed on iLife's motion-sensing accelerometer technology, which was used in Wii Remote controllers. iLife uses its tech to monitor infants to help prevent sudden infant death syndrome and the elderly to watch out for falls.

"On Aug. 31, 2017, a jury in Texas found that certain Wii and Wii U video game systems and software bundles infringed a patent belonging to iLife Technologies Inc. related to detecting if a person has fallen down," Nintendo said in a statement provided to Glixel. "The jury awarded iLife $10 million in damages. Nintendo disagrees with the decision, as Nintendo does not infringe iLife’s patent and the patent is invalid. Nintendo looks forward to raising those issues with the district court and with the court of appeals."

Original amount they wanted was $144Million. They end up with $10million. Nintendo plans to appeal. "Nintendo argued that the patent filed by iLife was invalid because the written description in the patent wasn't properly written."

With the amount of money Nintendo made off the Wii, you would think they would cut their losses and move on.

The amount has little to do with an appeal. If they didn't appeal, it would appear as though they admit to stealing, which companies aren't willing to do.

Hmmm... are they patent trolls? I can't find their website, or any products. Also, not sure what came first, iLife or the Wii? My last question, why doesn't Apple sue them?

I'm pretty sure the appeal was an attempt to cut their losses.

From what i can tell iLife has only been in business since 2012 and don't seem to have a site like others said. They also have sued fitbit and a few others. So they do appear to just be be a company that bought patents to use to sue others.

Patent trolls wait 20 years to finally make their monies, to pay off years of debt.

This is wonderful news. Nintendo will finally be FORCED to sell more units to cover their legal costs. All rejoice!!!

I can see why Nintendo would appeal.

Nintendo would have to pay royalty fees in the future if they were to add support to the switch for the motion controller + nunchuk to play old Wii and Wii U digital games.
