Destiny 2

This is the only game I could get to work/look right in HDR on my 2015 Samsung UN48JU6700 display. I realize it doesn't support full HDR, but it looks so much better in HDR, even though I run the desktop @ YCbCr 4:4:4 8bit. When I run the game it switches over to HDR.

The brightness settings are a bit off though. I imagine it looks amazing on a WCG display that handles HDR properly.

I'm playing it on a [email protected], 64GB, 1080Ti, 4k. I usually like Vsync ON. Can I turn Vsync OFF and turn on Fast Vsync in the Nvidia control panel? I've never used Fast Vsync before and I'm not big on the tearing with adaptive Vsync.

If you can't get the brightness correct (thanks to the auto-HDR effect) you might try running it in a borderless window. HDR looks really good with the game, but (like nearly everything else) it isn't a deal breaker. If you don't point it out I doubt most people would even notice.

is the in-game fps counter accurate?...since I can't get Afterburner working this is my only way of checking and people are saying that the in-game counter is giving out incorrect numbers

yeah i turned it on on my samsung and the brightness seemed way high.

It looks pretty good. I'd rather leave it on adjust the in-game brightness than turn it off. Unfortunately the display I have doesn't have a separate memory for HDR gaming so I'd have to adjust it manually every time I play. I'm not going to bother.

at 1920 x 1200 with my GTX 1070 I have everything maxed (except I have SMAA) and am easily getting over 60 fps

just going to drop my battletag in here if any of you guys want to add me for when the retail game drops: delita#11719

Blame Samsung for not putting a "user" setting for their memory. There are a lot of picture modes and could probably use a mode like "DVI" but I'm not sure if they'll work once HDR pops on. I think there's one setting for each mode- I'm not even sure how to adjust HDR mode specifically as it was added to my TV as an afterthought.

Left my machine on so I could remote in from work and get the download going. :) Seems to be going pretty fast, excited to give this a try tonight.

I tried it last night briefly. The game looks pretty good. The weapons felt ok. I think I actually like how the weapons in Warframe feel more. Destiny 2 weapons felt like there was a lack of punch to them.

My biggest gripe and maybe it is a setting I missed is the movement. I chose Titan at first and the strafing speed is weird. It feels like you are bogged down trying to move in mud. Even sprint feels sluggish to me. Forward movement isn't bad, but moving left to right feels off. I didn't try the other classes to know if it is just the class or if I missed a sensitivity setting. Even the boost felt weird since I would jump boost and have to wait to drift back down rather than dropping like I had weight to me. I never played the first one or really any Bungie game on PC so maybe this is just their style.

I am only running at 1080, but I couldn't find a FOV I loved either. Sometimes it almost felt like a vertical FOV and looked like it stretched the rifle out past a certain point rather than actually going for a wider field of view.

I will give it a try tonight and tomorrow before the end, but for now it is a wait and see. Guild Wars is scratching my gaming MMO itch right now, and futuristic shooters were never a big love of mine..

I had a friend send this message to me. I haven't gotten to PVP yet.

This is ironic if true:

"Seeing a lot of people complaining about aim assist on controllers making it so folks using controllers have an advantage over KBM users, and more specifically folks using an XIM4 having a tremendous advantage over everyone else due to it being a KBM that is treated as a controller and thus also gets the aim assist."

That right?

Biggie makes exotic legendary weapons good because they are more fun or do more damage thus desirable later on in the game level up structure.

Which was the main drive for what people played the game for really but that could change.

Interestingly enough, my model (a Samsung KS800065) got this type of functionality via a firmware update. It doesn't exactly work like a "User" settings mode, but it specifically remembers your settings for HDR content even when they're different from your usual settings. It didn't do that 6 months ago.

99% of the time my TV sees everything as the "PC" input, but when it picks up HDR content, it then sees it as "Game Console" content. I don't really care what it calls it, but I do like that it remembers my settings. It doesn't matter all that much with my PC since it usually displays HDR content really well no matter what. However for consoles everything is super, super dark in HDR mode. I have to crank the brightness from 12-18. Interestingly enough, even though it saw Destiny as HDR content by default, the actual HDR flag in game was turned off. It looked ultra bright until I checked that box...then it looked good.

Oh HDR. I'm half convinced it was rushed to the market across the board. I've played with it on a bunch of sets and it rarely looks as good as when non-HDR content is "faking" the effect with high contrast colors.

I'm not sure how my Samsung specifically handles HDR. Before I play a game on my PC I switch from PC to Game for the device type. I used rtings settings to adjust it. I'll try playing around with it in Game mode when Destiny 2 pops into HDR and see if it remembers it. Hopefully it won't overlap into normal HDR mode.

outside of gaming have you tried HDR with 4K Blu-rays or 4K streaming?...I just bought an LG C7 OLED 5 weeks ago and I think it looks phenomenal with the right content

The intro mission was fun, think this game could really enjoyable for the pve. Tried one of the PVP missions, didn't really enjoy it.

Game looks nice and seemed to run smooth, surprising for today's optimize post release standards. Not sure what my FPS was at 1440p as I am not sure if the game has a built in FPS counter.

Assume you meant Bungie instead of Biggie, aren't the beta weapons legendary? They say they are on the weapon tags.

I just double checked and they are. You also pick up an exotic which feels much the same way.

I tried the middle class and the movement is just too sluggish for me. I think I will be sitting this one out.

my impressions as a first time Destiny player...movement feels so fluid...jumping feels so good...Hand Cannon seems a bit OP...fantastic particle effects...overall game is fun but seems a bit too easy (I'm still early in the main mission)

Played through the first mission thing...initial impressions: It's alright. Good graphics, runs well (except the in-game cutscene which was terribly stuttery for some reason). Gameplay seems fairly bog-standard loot 'n' shoot.

Not sure how I feel about it. Probably a discount purchase for me. Seems like something I wouldn't pay $60 for.

Also, do you have to have played the first Destiny to know WTF is going on with the plot? I had no clue what was happening the entire mission.

There have been a few YT videos. I think I got a movie the first time I fired up the beta too, but a lot of the "lore" I'm sure will be explained in the game's FMVs.

gameplay is fun but the game seems too easy especially since your health seems to regenerate so quick...is there a difficulty slider in the real game?...or does it get harder?...presentation, combat, movement are all fun but I don't see why the 1st game got so much hype...seems like a pretty standard loot shooter co-op

It gets a shit ton harder on the more difficult strikes and raids.

I recall reading/hearing the strike missions in the first game were pretty hard.

the player honestly seems way too OP...has too many skills and weapons...that one 'Super-charge' move where you automatically turn into Darth Maul with your dual edge light saber is cool from a visual standpoint but you're like some God in that mode and can take out like 20 Legendary enemies

one thing I don't understand...in the middle of a mission if I die or quit to Desktop, the next time I start the game up it takes me all the way back to the beginning of the mission...are there no save points?...missions need to be completed before quitting?

They did that on purpose for the beta just to give everyone a little bit of a taste of everything.

When the full game comes out we're all starting out as level 1 scrubs. ;)

I thought about that as well but since this is a beta I'm guessing that's why.

Everything seems easy because its a beta. Bungie did the same thing with the Destiny 1 beta. For this beta not only are you max level, but you have all the ability unlocked and some really good high-level gear. You will have to find and earn all of that in the actual game. If it is like Destiny 1 it will take a very long time to unlock all the abilities of your sub-classes. Plus, all missions and strikes have difficulty levels and they got extremely hard in the first game. That nice yellow Exotic weapon the beta gave you for free is not something that will be easy to find in the game.

as a first time Destiny player I can see the appeal of this game from a visual and gameplay standpoint...but my main takeaway is that it seems geared towards casual gamers...meaning anyone can just jump in and play and have fun shooting things for a few hours...doesn't seem to have much real skill or strategy involved except shoot and move...I finished the Inverted Spire Strike mission and it was fun and had some challenge to it...are Strike missions the main single player story ones?

I do love the audio...some really great voice acting and overall sound effects...visuals and performance are also excellent...since this is part of an Nvidia promo I can see myself playing for $25-$30

Destiny is not a game with a super high skill ceiling, but it isn't always as easy as the beta either. There are going to be missions and bosses that require timing and strategy, but it isn't anything super complex. A lot of the challenge comes from managing ads and making sure your team is all working together. Don't like the strike fool you, the beta makes you overleveled and overgeared for it. I wouldn't be surprised if that strike was a level 10 or 15 one. I'd say the skill ceiling is somewhere above a Halo game, but not massively so. Everything is designed around making the core gameplay loop fun, while avoiding making the player feel too overpowered.

Strikes are not the main single player missions. The main SP missions can be done with between 1 and 3 people. Strikes require a group. Strikes are part of the story, though.

The 3-player co-op mission (Inverted Spire or whatever) was pretty fun...way better than the initial intro/story mission where you fought the same 2 enemies 600 times. Had more variety and seemed more challenging.

The graphics. The lovely graphics that smokes Destiny 1 on PS4 :) with gear in signature in 1440p highest, Im getting between 60 and 70 FPS. And it looks gorgeous. Also a lot of gfx options with FOV slider and such. So Bungie paid attention to what we want from console port. Oh and mouse and keyboard smokes pad gaming :)

Only the A.I is dumb. Mobs are charging straight on and when they hide they are shooting from the cover, so they hit the cover mostly. Makes fighting bit easier :)

Can't wait for full release, and I'm glad we are getting it after consoles with all bugs ironed.
