RX Vega Owners Thread

Well Archaea, running 2 instances of hanbrake on 72 threads and mining ether on 2 x RX 480s and 2 x RX Vega 64: 1074 Watts at the wall. Did see it over 1100 Watts for a second or so.

So I guess really a 1200w PUS would be all I needed.

Jesus Christ, i dunno if im more amazed at the dust or the mountain of paper

Random question for owners of the liquid cooled version, anyone having issues with black screen crashes and system freezing? The owners thread on the ocuk forums has had a few people reporting problems with their liquid cooled version, been around 8 or so returns in the owners thread there from what i'm seeing. Not a massive amount but they've only sold around 60 ish liquid versions as they're hard to come by, (still waiting on my pre-order). Doesn't seem to affect the blower fan version, just the liquid version for some reason. :cautious:

No issues with crashing, but I've noticed in Overwatch (just Overwatch, no other games) the game will start stuttering massively (eg looks like a 5/10fps game) while still reading a maxed 100fps.

I had the black screen thing happen on my 64 air cooled. It was when running 3DMark FireStrike Ultra. When switching scenes the screen would turn black and stay like that.

Luckily the system did not crash, and I could use the keyboard to exit the app and then the screen would come back on. I tried it a few times and it kept happening. Let me check again now that I updated drivers.

EDIT: Just tried again, the black screen is gone.

I opened my watercooled Vega a couple days ago. No issues at all yet, but I've only tried a few games so far--- Doom, Path of Exile, Rainbow Six Siege, and Path of Exile and a 3DMark Firestrike run. No black screens or anything weird yet.

At stock settings no. However I did notice I can't really push the core clock up at all. Even 10-20 MHz over the stock settings causes a black screen, have to cut power to the PC. Haven't messed with the voltages yet though.

well found my first bug.

You can't use Eyefinity and bezel correction. Bezel correction locks up my main display to a black screen every time I try to use it. Bezel correction worked fine with the Fury X crossfire pair - so it's gotta be a bug.

Specifics: (3) 32" HP Omen 1440P displays connected via display port, running 75hz each with 10 bit color. 7680x1440 eyefinity --- but with bezel correction should be more like 7800x1400 -- as soon as it pulls up the yellow triangle adjustment screen (standard bezel correction screen) the main middle screen fritzes out - with a pixelated mess of yellow and gray dots. I can run three screens, I can run Eyefinity at on games at 7680x1400 - just not bezel correction.

I would say, they are probably trying to get all the new features enabled properly before they worry about crossfire.
Yes that will be needed first and the most, but hopefully they're already working at crossfire next to it. I really wonder how far away it is..

Me too. PLP eyefinity the P monitors get rotated in the bezel correction screen making it VERY difficult to adjust.

I think that is a bug identified in the release notes.

no negatives at all. No flicker at any fps range using ultimate. Gotta say it has been perfect thus far.

Thanks! Well I took the plunge and spent more money on the Samsung CF791. Although I'm finding it very finicky with Display port and ultimate engine turned on. I get black screens at post, and some games just go black screen. Have you experienced this at all JustReason?

For now I'm using HDMI as it seems to be working fine, but I hate when something doesn't work right from the get go.

it's part of the known issues on the latest 17.8.2 drivers release notes, so it may be fixed in later drivers.

Known Issues

  • Mouse stuttering may be observed on some Radeon RX graphics products when Radeon WattMan is open and running in the background or other third party GPU information polling apps are running in the background.
  • GPU Scaling may fail to work on some DirectX®11 applications.
  • Windows Media Player may experience an application hang during video playback if Radeon ReLive is actively recording desktop.
  • Secondary displays may show corruption or green screen when the display/system enters sleep or hibernate with content playing.
  • After resuming from sleep and playing back video content the system may become unresponsive on Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
  • Bezel compensation in mixed mode Eyefinity cannot be applied.

Anyone's blower fan shut off at times? When my PC is idle for a while, the fan shuts off.

Once yesterday with GW2 (guildwars 2) a DX9 game, had to reboot. And for now After OCing my CPU it doesn't post a screen for the bios. Goes to windows and works just fine just not bios so maybe when I reset and try Pstate OCing it may fix that issue.

So far what cable are you using? I wonder if the cable is the issue with some. I gather most use the cable with the monitor, which seems hefty enough, but too short for me so I have never tried it.

And to add to the fan part: My Wc not blower style is at 26C and fan is running 35%. However my Delta Megafast fan may be pushing it that at minimum and tach is reading output rather than what it is meant to run. Thought I remembered it running at 20% when I first got it before adding the delta fan.

Yeah I'm using the cable that came with the monitor. I also tried the cable from my LG ultrawide. Same thing with me that I can't see the bios loading screen either. It could very well be the cable as I used a cable that came with my dell 27" that was the first to have displayport in my eyefinity days and it didn't even show the windows desktop.

Do you happen to have Hellblade or battlegrounds by chance? Probably hasn't been discussed much due to either the monitor is owned by nvidia owners, or they simply have turned off ultimate engine because of the flicker.

Sorry neither. But so far no flickering issues and I am using the ultimate engine. Skyrim and Fallout work perfectly, capped at 75hz. Doom capped @99hz looks amazingly smooth (capped to stay in the Freesync range).

I have this issue now where embedded videos (on Twitter, Facebook, etc.) cause the whole computer to become choppy and unresponsive for 10 - 15 seconds at a time. The mouse won't move and nothing will work for the time period. If I have the task manager open, CPU usage is fine (i.e. under 10%). I thought maybe it was a video codec issue, so I installed K-Lite and tried enabling different hardware rendering modes, which helped a little bit, but it's still choppy. I don't recall this ever being an issue until maybe the latest AMD driver. Anyone else have this problem?

Tried without hardware acceleration? Pure CPU? If its not that, did you do a fresh install of Windows with your new card. I always do fresh installs of Windows with new cards, or any major hardware changes. Lots of small issues with Windows when swapping out hardware.

Yes, originally HW acceleration was off. I tried limiting to 4 cores, and that may have cut the slowdown to 5 seconds (from 15) but maybe it's placebo. I did not reinstall Windows, but I don't see how I would need to as it was working for at least a week or two when I originally got Vega.

So either it's the new AMD driver, or some other update (maybe Chrome, etc.) that caused the problem. Actually, I just tried Firefox and it seems to work so it must be a Chrome issue.

OK. I turned HW Acceleration OFF in Chrome settings and now everything works. Hopefully a future update will fix whatever broke.

Chrome HW Acceleration is finicky. Likely requires an update to support Vega properly. I hadn't noticed your issue, but then I'm mostly running Edge on my AMD box due to some... oddities with Chrome not related to what you were seeing.

Well, has anyone been able to snatch up a Vega 56 yet? They are at MSRP but none show as being available.

All of the standalone 56s at MSRP sold out within a minute of listing if not earlier. The first standalone 56 on newegg might have been out before it even showed up on search, although its difficult to know for sure. I grabbed one of the game packs off BB since I don't have either game, but it's listed as "reserving" item which makes me think the retailer oversold. That said, it also says "get it by Wed, Aug 30"

I have the same issue in Firefox, turning off hardware acceleration fixed it for me too.

My waterblock finally arrived along with another goody. I haven't installed it in my PC yet as I'm waiting to get my backplate and I/O cover for my motherboard that didn't come with this used motherboard. Hate when that happens.

In the meantime, I took a few hours to do some modding on the waterblock.

Guys, do your vega have coil whine?
Mine screams almost as loud as the fan under load.
The combination is almost intolerable. It's sitting on a cardboard box naked on my desk though. So I'd imagine having it in a case would help.

yes, only during loading screens when fps are absurd.

Since vega is slow I don't have whine during actual gaming.

What game do you have it in. I haven't noticed it on my watercooled Vega yet.

No, I haven't noticed any coil whine. I just ran FurMark for a few minutes, no whine at all and the fan noise wasn't even that loud at 100%.

I think I have it in most of the games I play, especially demanding games. Dishonored 2, fallout 4, even some older but graphics intensive titles.
Easy to run games like csgo are totally fine though

I get it the very moment I fire up furmark:sick:
But because the load is consistent in furmark the tone of the whine is consistent too. So it's less annoying then in games.

So I bumped up the power limit by 10% and framerates seemed to have increased by a substantial amount in hellblade all maxed at 1440p. Previously it was in the 50s to 60s, now im in the 60s witht he occasional jump to 70. Also seems like clocks are maintaining in the 1500MHz area whereas prior to bumping they appeared to stay in the 1200-1300mhz area.

I also set voltage to 1050 and 1100, no idea if it is actually sticking or not.

Temperature is approx. 75c with fan at about 3500rpm (dang this thing is loud) but I'm actually impressed with how well the cooler copes with the massive amount of heat.
