RX Vega Owners Thread

I DO like that 38" Acer though...
That's what my wife is using with a Nano, at the moment. She loves it for work and gaming. Though it is now limited since it's freesync first gen and capped at 75hz.

It'll be up for sale once the Samsung's come in :)

Now, I would LOVE to see a 5760 x 1080 80" (?) IPS HDR FreeSync2 144Hz 1ms 1800R panel...!

The ultimate 27" HD triple monitor setup, just with ZERO bezels...! ;^p

I would want two posts & a wide base plate for the stand though...

It does on mine, WC Vega64 and Samsung CF791. So far in the games I have run: Doom, Fallout4, Prey, and all the other games I have tested are older easy to display games.

I'm debating on upgrading my LGUC88 for the Samsung CF791 since it has a higher refresh rate (75hz>100hz), and along with that the freesync range of 48-100Hz. I just saw a video from Gamers Nexus about Vega not having the freesync flicker issue with the CF791. And discovered the new driver for past and present cards stating they fixed the flicker on a small number of Samsung panels.

JustReason, have you experienced any flicker at all? I'm curious if the driver fixes older cards as well. My buddy wants to buy one too, but he has a 290x at the moment.

no negatives at all. No flicker at any fps range using ultimate. Gotta say it has been perfect thus far.

I will be curious to see how these do when crossfired. Guess I got to wait a month or so for that.
Yeah, I'm so excited to get Crossfire Vega. I actually at one point at two 1080 Tis but I didn't even put them in the machine cause I knew I would spoil myself for Vega. I have waited months with CF RX 480, which were OK but struggling at 4K. I think Vega CF will be it, so close.

I was loading a map...in bloody csgo
not even got into the game yet. But then after the reboot, I started csgo and it seemed fine.
The first game I launched was dishonored 2, it was ok but I test launched it for a few minutes only. I think I'm going to put it in turbo and complete a whole mission to see if it's stable or not.

edit: It happened again, in Euro truck simulator. csgo and ets2 are not exactly games that will push the card to limit but that's what happened...Looks like I may have to get a new psu:cry::confused:

edit2: Further reading that could be the asus anti-surge mechanism being too sensitive. I'll try disabling it first

edit3: nope it's still happening.

I've had my system shutdown twice now while playing Prey, no loading screens or anything, just shooting monsters. I have a 1000w Seasonic PSU and no overclocking on the card or CPU. Hopefully they get this sorted. Also sending in a bug report to AMD.

I did find a youtube video that may help

I've only had one shutdown so far, the system has been OK since that happened. Hopefully a driver bug or something that can be fixed with a BIOS update.

Yeah I thought of the same thing. The SFX psu I was using (SX600-G) has only one 8 pin connector so I had to use a daisy chain cable.
Now I've bought a corsair SF600 which has two separate 8 pin, actually just received it a few hours ago. :p Gamed on turbo mode for a while and it seems fine! :D
I will report here if it happens again.

Yeah, I kept the power draw in mind when I wired my new case setup for the Vega I'm awaiting. Definitely went with two 8 pin cables, felt comfortable with more copper running to the card rather than less.

They just got them into stock. I hope they have some extras to sell too.

I think at $499 it's a solid option especially for Freesync owners. Almost every game I tried (Forza Horizon 3, Witcher 3, TitanFall 2, Project Cars) runs smooth on Acer 3440x1440 75hz on highest settings. Exception being GTA 5, need to lower settings to stay above 60fps. I use wattman to run undervolted(1.1v) at 1600/1000.

Can anyone let me know how it does gaming with 4K resolutions? If you have to turn a few settings down to make it work that's fine. AA would be the first to hit the chopping block.

I'd say it's really good with one big caveat. Your 4k monitor should have Freesync. If it doesn't, you're really better off with a 1080 ti, it's that simple. It will keep you near enough at 60hz Vsync most of the time at 4k. With Vega Liquid even with a little overclock on the HBM and full power limit, I'm getting around 52 fps at the same settings which I would run with my Ti + Vsync at either 2xMSAA/SMAA/FXAA or none at all in every game.

Just tried some Prey and no issues, but only played 20 minutes or so. I have noticed that has there's a severe incompatibility with either HWINFO or Afterburner combined with Rivatuner. Really bad hitching at regular intervals with OSD on the latest drivers and usually only after a full reboot. Oddly enough, no problems with Riva just displaying FPS alone ever. Still early days.

Played various games with my new psu for quite some while. No problem what so ever.
The daisy chain 8 pin connection could probably be the culprit of the shutdown issue. (I sent my old psu to RMA though lol)
Definitely recommend connecting a vega with two separate 8 pin cable.

Don't let HWiNFO64 read your VRM temps/info. Did that with my 290, so I don't use it now even on my WC Vega64. I am using all 3 and no issues as of yet. Also played 3 hrs of Prey and plays quite fine.

HWInfo is one of those catch-22s. It polls so often, it provides great data. It polls so often, it can affect performance. Pair down what it's polling to just the info you're looking for, it'll likely make a difference.

tl;dr HWInfo can do this for any GPU/CPU/System.

"Most" people. That has never crossed my mind. I always use one cable per power input on the video card.

That's the strange thing. I was pulling just temp data and framerate, nothing else.

Can't wait to see how much
  • 2 x e5-2699v3
  • 2 x Vega 64
  • 2 x Rx 480
  • 6 X ssd
  • 10 X HDD
Will pull at the wall.

Who wants to guess?

Well Archaea, running 2 instances of hanbrake on 72 threads and mining ether on 2 x RX 480s and 2 x RX Vega 64: 1074 Watts at the wall. Did see it over 1100 Watts for a second or so.

So I guess really a 1200w PUS would be all I needed.

For those of you who don't really see the benefit of FreeSync -- you need to try this windmill demo!

Excellent, clear example of the technology's advantage!
Lol I tried that with my wifes monitor and kept getting this hitch and it wasn't exactly consistent in the video. Just thought maybe it was outdated. Eventually I remembered that HWiNFO64 when utilizing the VRM temp sensors causes a hitching at about 1.5-2 sec intervals. So the video is still good. Thus far this Samsung monitor with the Ultimate setting it has been flawless. I think it sets the range to 48hz-100hz, but I swear it looked like it was still working at ~30hz when I was tinkering with Skyrim64 and ENB+Reshade. I was looking hard for some tearing or frame issues and saw none. Granted this monitor was a bit on the expensive side for me but damn it all if it isn't making a hell of a case for its cost. Well worth it.

It looks like the C32HG70 that I picked up with the Vega has a freesync range from 90-120 Hz right now and is not displaying 144Hz as an option, ah the fun of bleeding edge haha. I will say that the card stays at about 60 C under water so that's cool.

Thus far the WC Vega64 I have hasn't gone above 50C. Of course my whole PC is kept in an air-conditioned case where I try to maintain 70-75F. Of course it could also be the Delta Megafast fan I added to the rad. :angelic:

Got the second card in the rig.

Sadly, as expected, no Crossfire support in AMD settings. Hopefully they will update soon.
I assume you have a 1k PSU, as both Vega 64 cards will draw close to 700 watts under load. I tested one using kill a watt and was shocked at the result. Also I don't know how you can put up with two blowers at the same time.

Yes, it's a 1000W PSU, which I believe should be enough. People always would make fun of me for buying crazy PSUs, but now it seems you really need it.
