I've been playing PoE for a few weeks now, I'm currently Level 59 (Duelist). I'm not doing any "league" stuff (no idea what that is) just soloing the story. As of 3.0 they changed the levelling all around, and I seem to be stuck. I'm going into "level 44" zones, which should be cake, and getting totally mauled by mobs that give virtually no exp. Those stupid long arm things that spawn the fire totems are a mess, and the bosses are nuts. I blew away 35% of my to-level exp, down to 0, just fighting the first boss after getting sent back to the "2.0" starter town.

Is this them subtly telling me I should start trying to party?

Post your tree and build? Lvl 59 should be smashing everything in the A5-A6 areas.

The Tukohama mobs that cast Scorching Ray totems are designed to gear check you for the miniboss fights ahead which are fire based. There is also a Vaal Molten Shell dog on the beach that will wreck anyone trying to autopilot through the zone, specially melee builds. Grab a ruby flask and/or work on your fire resistance and you should be fine.

You should consider just starting over and making a harbinger league character, the standard league is where all of the old characters go to die. If you're getting crushed that badly your build is probably in some serious trouble.

Of course all of the decent gear I find has little to no fire resistance. Lightning? SURE HERE HAVE ANOTHER 40% RESIST. It's cute they want to gear check me, but they also aren't dropping anything useful to help get past it. Another 8-13 damage dagger isn't gonna do it.

Since I'm at 0 into level anyway I have been brute forcing through the fire stuff. I hope they get over that fire thing soon, it's getting really tiring.

We can help you a lot better if you link us your build, like others have asked.

Hit L90 yesterday on my Pathfinder Ele Wander character in Harbinger league. Even though the harbinger league mod is simplistic or even underwhelming (understandably seeing they probably wanted to keep it simple), the 3.0 content is quite impressive. There can probably be a serious discussion now about whether PoE is the best online-ARPG in the history of gaming. D2 was the pioneer and will always have a place in our hearts, but reality is that it will have to hand over the crown someday, have we reached that moment ?

I've heard the Harbinger challenge eyes are the only league reward worth getting, though with some armor sets (like the Arcane which I'm wearing) it's almost not-noticeable.

Usually I'd probably hit 90-91 before flipping my gems to 1/20, though they all hit 20 when I was L89. Maybe it's very slightly easier to level gems to 20 now. Last league I had shaped strands on the atlas, though this league they nerfed strand so I'll probably shape another map.

Some of the biggest twitch streamers (like Lirik) are streaming/playing this game and it's been in the twitch top 10 since 3.0. Congratulations to GGG - the success is well deserved, I'm glad that a wider audience is finally getting to appreciate the work they put into this game. I'm still annoyed with some design decisions, but those are minor arguments for another time.

Has the end game changed much or is it still "grind maps until kingdom come"?
When last did you play the game ? The last big change to endgame came with the Atlas of Worlds expansion, which allows you to track your progression through the mapping system, increase the level of your favorite layout maps, remove your disliked maps from your map drop pool, and eventually lead to the guardians/shaper bosses.

If your goal is L100 then yeah you're gonna be grinding maps till kingdom come. I think they still develop the end-game around players trying new alts/builds once they hit the mid 90s on their current build.

I started playing when Atlas of the worlds hit, and I stopped playing in part because of it.

My main problem wasn't getting mapstones I don't want, but more problems getting maps I DO want, specifically the maps you couldn't vendor mapstones for. I gave up after running out of high level stones.

I could have bought stones sure, but that was when I realised that, for all praises PoE got with regards to the map system, the only thing that I found better were the mods and progression, the mapstones were by far the worst part of it, I couldn't get a few of the ones I wanted for map progress. Stopped playing the game shortly after.

I never made it near the guardians/Shaper bosses, I didn't last that long. I did a few T10 maps before I called it quits. I wasn't interested in playing alts as I wasn't keen on the leveling system at the time either, playing through the first 4 acts was fun the first time, but by the 6th time it was getting old (I started playing just before legacy league, so I restarted on the legacy league, that makes 6 act1~4 playthroughs).

So I decided to wait until 3.0 to see if the 10 acts would fair better.

The leveling process is fairly smoothed out, now. I played fairly casually, and just got done with the act 10 boss. The new content made it quite a bit more comfortable compared to how it was before, doing 4x3 play throughs.. That sort of thing has always bothered me, yet playing through this time, i think it was decently balanced, and I really didn't notice having to do the same thing over and over. The one gripe/complaint I have going into the end-game right now, is that you CANNOT map until act 10 is done and complete. Anyways, yeah, give leveling something up a shot. I enjoyed it and I've been tooling away on this game since early open beta.

Shaped Racecourse boss just dropped a mirror for me in Harbinger SC league. Used to play Standard mostly, not leagues - so I have purchased mirrored gear there like many standard players - but seeing one drop yourself is certainly a memorable and momentous occasion. Wish I had my golden kiwi out the moment it happened, he's been there since day one open beta and should have been there to witness this once in a lifetime PoE experience.

Damn... that's the fabled item cloning mirror right?

Speaking of which, I am nearly done with Season 11 on D3 now (just a few more season journey requirements to go), so I will probably steer my attention back to PoE.

Is SRS necro still a thing? I am only farmiliar with that particular build. I want to try a build like that where minions take a lot of the heat off me and I can stand back casting curses or buffs etc.

Oh, lastly, are the vendor recipes still the same? Any change?

SRS necro baron is VERY popular this league. I'm running an ice crash gladiator (its kinda slow and sucky).

Exalts are incredibly worthless this league... down to ~40c each. I've been doing chaos recipes again cuz I sold all my first big drops in the opening weekend for exalts.

My first character was a permanent onslaught (2x fragility jewel + Ahn's heritage shield) srs (covenant armor) and zombie (huge ones with mon'tregul's grasp) necro which has comfortably clerared everything so far. I kinda stopped at t10-t11 and I'm leveling my boss killer character now, a whispering ice berserker. In Legacy Solo self found I made a Whispering ice Inquisitor that could face tank T15s with only 5k ES wearing a biscos and mf gem and with non mf gear could face tank guardians and do shaper with ease. Life based like the one I'm building should be no different specially with Pain Reaver and Cloaked in Savagery which are borderline broken OP.

Haven't been playing much lately tho, I think I played the beta a little too much (had 5 characters with several variations to testing things) and I may have burned myself out a bit so I'm going relatively slower.

I'm also using an ele wander pathfinder. Right around lvl 72 currently. Do you have a link to your build/gear? My main issue is survivability

Hit L95 on my ele wander in Harbinger yesterday, and 6L'd my belly in 525 fusings. A nice change from previous leagues where I spent 3k+ without linking it.

Exalts are the lowest in cost they have been for years now, (thanks to zana mods, as well as the energy shield nerfs (no one crafting %ES on rings or slamming regalias etc)) so if anyone wants to enjoy crafting/slamming gear this is the league to try it. Life base builds are the meta now, a well rolled 6L belly is 17ex whereas last league it was like 7ex.

Some old school players are unhappy with the league as the Harbinger mechanic is quite simple; end game hasn't changed and the difference between Standard and League right now is almost non-existent. New players seem to love it though, they've kept it in the top10 Steam stats for the past couple weeks straight. (many new players tend to use Steam, many old school players tend to use standalone client) I think it's understandable ggg went with a simple league mechanic and I'm still enjoying it so far, though I'm playing quite casually these days.

Wanders are quite squishy (even when well geared). The build I'm using is here and my current gear is here.

Alot of older players do NOT like this league, because they were just adorned with legacy, and before that breach. The league mechanic itself isn't THAT bad, but what people fail to realize, is this is 3.0, a major launch, and people should think of the new league as new content for NEWER players to progress further into their atlas and quicker. It's SUPER easy to roll up to t15s/16's and sustain now, simple because of this 'junk' mechanic. Also, crafting just got annulment orbs. Those things are down right bonkers. My point is this, Sometimes, it's better to have more people playing your game, than have everyone happy all of the time. It's just not going to happen.

I finally started up a new char. It's definitely enjoyable playing through the "new" content. It's definitely better than the same shit three times. I didn't realize they just recycled everything and called it 10 Acts though.

Still, it definitely doesn't feel as bad leveling a new char this way. I'm lvl 60 and near the end now so that lines up well with maps. I didn't have to grind any zone or anything. Progression was smooth.

Just started playing it. Great game but it seems that you NEED and you MUST love grinding. How do you guys overcome that?

Some people actually like to put in an effort to achieve a goal and feel it helps increase the value of the reward.
and some people just wants instant gratification.

Anyway im looking for some moltenstrike dueslist build. but it seems like this Skill has no more popularity :(

So I've got a 3 day weekend and time to build a second character. I've acquired the gear for 2 different builds a Whispering Ice berserker or a dual wield Flicker Strike/Viper strike Ranger Raider using poison (yes the poison that got nerfed to the ground lol) which is a newish build that's been recently theorycrafted.

Whispering ice is straight up face tank shit with insane leeching from berserker ascendancy which I've already tested capable of clearing shaper comfortably in pre 3.0 Legacy Solo self found. It can literally face tank Shaper's Kamehameha beam AND the smash. The only real downside is map clear speed is not the best but that's why it's a boss killer.

Here's a sample video vs shaper, not mine tho.

Flicker/Viper strike poison build uses Dendrobate armor and dual wield Wasp Nest claw (or a Breath of the council for even more dmg) and it reaches over 30 attacks per second. Flicker is to clear map trash and Viperstrike for bosses and seems really capable (~500k Flicker Strike dps and ~3.5million Viper Strike dps) but since it's a fresh recently theorycrafted build I don't know how end game/shaper capable it'll be.

As an ex-wow vanilla player, instant gratification isn't my desire at all. But sometimes i feel like it is mindless grinding. That was my point.

Hit 40/40 challenges in Harbinger today. This wasn't a goal I had in mind but I completed many of them just by playing the game casually without even thinking about it. Definitely easier to do than Legacy, as there is less RNG involved.

There definitely needs to be some improvement between the pantheon, the challenges and the atlas. Apparently pantheon abilities are character based, not account based - so you need to repeat all the soul capturing etc on every character you create. Which along with challenges, require you to unlock maps on the atlas you might not want unlocked, ending up being very costly to fix shaped atlases, especially for multiple characters.

I think it's a safe bet the next league or two will focus more on end game and fixing these issues, now that the base game has a decent 10 Act story progression in place.

The same issues exist with the damage spikes and certain encounters in this game. I literally facerolled the entire game except for two bosses. One was obviously Kitava. I might have died 50+ times killing him. I'm glad I gave up on HC. I'd have to skip it altogether or grind to like lvl 85+ before attempting it.

Still, I enjoy the game now more than ever. Playing a new Summoner and they are pretty well off these days. Easily able to get to maps, lvl 75, clear Merc lab, etc with very little trading.

I have yet to do Kitava and have a lvl 70 basically just getting there...went into all the other boss fights blind but after hearing all the stories I figured I'd watch some vids before Kitava. Looks like a more extreme version of the A5 fight; what sucked during that fight was the unique adds during the heart phases that would flicker strike for huge instant damage.

The char has about 3200 life, 3200 ES, and something like 1750 unreserved mana w/ 40% MOM. Also running Enfeeble+Blasphemy. I figure I'll bring a decoy totem too and hope for the best but it looks like a huge clusterfuck at times.

To be fair, I only had like 1400hp/1400es. I facerolled everything as a Summoner except ktava basically. Faceroll maps through tier 10 now as well.

Did it pretty fast. Fastest ever on my atlas probably. 7 aura Summoner pretty ridiculous with high tier spectres.

Hit L97 a couple days ago, and killed the guardians/shaper a few times. Not sure if I wanna push for 98+ on a character that has no movement skill (wander). Might create another character sometime or just take a break from the league now, lots of other games on the backlog.

I notice a lot of older players quitting the league early, their complaints can probably be summarized as "this isn't legacy or breach". Maybe breach did spoil some people, though GGG could have helped the situation by not locking the breach mod behind Zana 8, something 99.9% of the playerbase won't reach in a league (or even afford if they could reach it).

There were a lot of mob density nerfs in end game maps (all the outdoor maps and the popular ones had their mob density nerfed) and I think that's hurting the end game and player longevity more than anything else.

The game has just become utterly faceroll until Guardians/Shaper. My Summoner witch had zero problem balzing through to t15 maps at like lvl 83-85. Haven't killed corrupted guardians yet. Tried a Hydra but only got him to half. There are so many of these difficulty spikes to try and lock out people. I literally just summon spectres and can run through t15 maps and bosses but guardians are like a brick wall.

I already lost interest in the game after maybe two weeks. I'm Lvl 88 I think, and my character is basically complete minus perfect items in some slots. 6K ES with a Shavs. I clear maps so fast this time that even a death or two and the exp loss is irrelevant. I have self-sustaining shaped strands, vaults, and gorges. The game just isn't very interesting any more at higher level play. Everything has become so trivialized. I used to hate how much harder it was to sustain a map pool, but now it's so easy that it just isn't exciting.

Lot of criticism but I did enjoy it until this point. It's just too quick and easy to gear up and shape your atlas now. Most maps are complete dog shit so you only need to do all the tier 1-9s and then pick out the good ones from there and shape the good lower tier maps.

Agreed. But its become extremely apparent that 3.0 wasn't complete, and that December's League having an "expansion" will actually be the rest of 3.0's planned content, proper mechanics balancing (which they tried to partially put out, such as charges changes), and hopefully atlas 2.0 with new mapping tiers/rebalance. I keep wondering when i'm going to quit, probably after next league.

---

I rolled a gladiator that used Ice crash up to low 80's, hit a dps wall, so I switched to Frost Blades and haven't looked back. Only required about 10 nodes swapped around and about 20c in uniq jewels. MUCH better skill. I convert only 80% of my damage to cold so that I can still get bleed explosions, though now that my damage is at a certain point I can probably just push to 100%.

I'm sitting on three Belly's that are 5L, failing to get one 6L'd. I've got about 200c saved up, so i'm figuring I'll save up a bit more then buy one outright (they're 500c+ atm). My best drop has been a perfect rolled Kitava's Thirst (hunger?). I really need to get a 6L going, seeing as how that's 20-40% more damage I'm missing out on.

I've downed Chimera and Hydra (both rolled with difficult mods) but not deathless. With Anvil on I'm at 76% all block, which makes the fights relatively trivial if played smartly, but SLOW. Otherwise I'm rocking Bisco's (which I rolled up to 125/81) all the time. I should figure out a dps neck to wear.

Oh and doing 3c group beachhead runs are FUN and the xp is INSANE. I highly suggest it.

For the longest time every league has started with most people running the same "pizza sticks" (Flameblast totems) builds to cheese their way through the game. I had a buddy start playing the game with 3.0 and he chose to play...Ancestral Warchief. Drop totems and run around while they kill for you - it's the dullest gameplay I've ever seen and it pisses me off because it's so effective and easy, yet GGG's just left them alone.

Summoners were long a favorite build for many in D2 so I'm not surprised to see people like them in PoE, but they're basically the same kind of thing: I'll just chill in the back while they kill everything for me. Sure it's available for anyone who wants to go that route, but otherwise I wouldn't say it's representative of the game on the whole.

Even though my L97 Ele Wander could do all content in the game, I really disliked the barrage skill. It constantly misses targets even at close blank range. I disliked it so much I sold/gave away all my wander gear, picked up a 6L starforge and a kaoms chest, and leveled a cyclone slayer that I could mess around with occasionally.
1wqp8y.jpg

Also did all the content in the game with him, creating a second character in a temp league was a first for me, though I'm glad I did it as starforge is in a way way better place now than it used to be in previous leagues, with the introduction of the new gems (brutality/ruthless/maim). Even though I have 8500hp on this character, without Vaal Pact it doesn't feel as tanky as some glass cannons on the right side of the tree.

It's probably a safe bet that in the future more balances are coming to VP. If I had to guess I'd say eventually there will be the removal of instantaneous logout, complete removal of VP, and rebalancing of monster damage and player leech.
