Vega Rumors

Even liquid is having a hard time edging 1080FE in these limited selection of games.. wait for a broader selection, it's gonna get bloody.

If those benchmarks are real, it's a little disappointing but not all that unexpected. Seems to trade blows with 1080 is some games, but it's getting beaten pretty bad in others.

Though I'm already kind of committed to keeping this rig AMD, so I will buy regardless.
Are you gonna put your 2x 480 into good use and start mining?

Wow, that is so much fail if I ever saw one.
A 1080 is definitely the better buy here for gamers. Also 16 months late and need to pay 200 over to match a 1080 FE? Best to get a custom cooled factory OC card and annihilate Vega 64 liquid.
Also that power draw. DAMN!

Or just spend a 100 buck more and get yourself a 1080 TI, Vega Liquid is in a weird pricing between 1080 and 1080 TI.

This is a joke guys. Just stop screwing around with AMD and get you a 1080 ti. I mean, jesus h christ ... you guys fck off tons of extra money doing god knows what .. just get the 1080ti and stop waiting around and wasting time with AMD. It's the same damn let down year and year. Why do this to yourself?

You guys would actually be doing AMD a huge favor if you stopped buying their video cards and forced them to get serious about performance. Support AMD and don't buy their products. They don't need monetary support, they need support in the "get your head out of your ass" dept.

I feel incredibly sad for all the people that were "hoping and wishing" like they do every AMD refresh that things would get better. If this is you, trust me bro ... whoever you are, get off the AMD wagon and come on over the nVidia ... the 1080 ti is a mofofcking beast and for the same money.

people that buy amd will buy their cards. AMD probably will have a controlled supply. Look at forums or reddit, everyone talking about buying these despite the fact that Nvidia has more efficient cards and same price. Likely to OC better and use half the power. Pretty crazy, but it is what it is. Good for them, may be they can help AMD be more competitive. I couldn't recommend anything other than vega 56 at most. This talk about buying limited edition and water cooled cad seems little insane. But I can't speak for their wallets. I can only speak for mine.

well guys. I just got a newegg promo email. looks like 599.99 it is. What a bunch of horse shit!. You want to buy a card at 599 that amd said was suppose to 499? AMD has the balls to let this happen, same performance as gtx 1080 and much more power and 100 more dollars lol!

even if you are a fanboy AMD just insulted your intelligence and is ready to ass rape you!

I would guess that is the bundled price, not the card by itself.

Well so far every retailer is putting them up at 599.99. Frys has them for same amount. So from what it looks like it will be $599.99. May be they are hoping miners believed the fake rumor they implemented and will clean out the initial inventory at 599.99.

I doubt they will be separate, just add some adders for mixed precision, scheduling ability for wave ops if they don't come with SM6, and swizzle patterns for different matrix dimensions. Not sure if there are any more recent AI/DL instructions, but that aren't complicated. Few modifications to a SIMD and tensor core.

As for API support, I'd think wave once even in graphics could expose it. Just that graphics doesn't have nearly that large of matrices. In compute they'd be similar to AVX512 instructions, which is probably the route AMD goes.

With chiplets and the "matter of hours" to validate changes with Infinity it's possible if they focus on one specific system. I'd agree it's further off though.
Wow.
So now it is not complicated to build Tensor Core functionality that works in much less clocks cycle, nor complicated to design access to it from a traditional GPU perspective....
I suppose the efficiency does not matter as well that has to be a magnitude greater than traditional GPUs.
You do realise Nvidia is still working out ways to open further access to the Tensor Cores and what they have done now is the basic operation saying it has taken a fair amount of work just to make it work efficiently with current libraries that they are slowyly building up access to?

So are you suggesting what they built into Vega currently is more complicated than what is required for AI/DL from a Tensor core-functionality perspective????
Lets be honest what has been integrated into current Vega is not mind shattering tech relative to implementing these improved AI/DL cores-functionality AMD is looking to for Navi.
Point being I doubt we will see Navi anytime soon because this IS going to take them time to implement well (hardware and software both from GPU and platform side) and critically with efficiency.
None of these techs matter to consumers, but they have implications on when one can expect Navi.
Cheers

I got the same mailing. The funny (?) thing is that if you click through to the advertisement page and scroll down, they're running a sale on an Asus Strix 1080 today for $569 (e.g. $30 cheaper for a card that likely will be a better performer).

I was going to take the plunge at $499 just to do it. But not at $599.

REALLY hoping to see the RX Vega 56 cards going for the $399 price point they were originally advertised at...!

Fucking Miner Markups...

Well the confusing thing is AMD confirmed to some journalists that Newegg and some other major retailers would be selling the Vega cards at the MSRP without scalping.
So no idea what is going on.
Cheers

That newegg mailing card is XFX. Do partner boards have to sell at MSRP? I thought partners got liberty to sell at what they wanted and only the AMD branded cards would for sure be MSRP at a honest MSRP place like newegg.

Well for custom design sure, but this is not a custom design but reference in all ways it seems.
Cheers

if its a reference model, yes...

can you pm me or post the link? Didnt get the email

Ran my Vega FE last night. It took a +50 power limit 1000mhz on HBM and 1700mhz core clock to best a stock 1080.

600w at the wall in 3dmark and the fan running like a banshee out of hell.

You really think AMD doesn't care about performance? It sucks but this probably the best they can do atm. It is shitty how they play the marketing game and these prices but they still need the money for R&D for future cards. Honestly at this point you better off waiting for Volta around the new year.

First, your bias is showing, that is one bench where it's performing well... out of 5 others that is 20+ frames difference and not in AMD's favor, however, if BF1 is your game then hold on to that benchmark.

Two, I only game at 4k, yes some of the FHD/QHD are a bit closer some are 40+ frames off, again not in AMD's favor.

Three, Ill show my bias and say hey look at Metro Last Night, its only 80+ frames in Nvidia's favor! Again I only care about UHD.

If that is it then I am not impressed, mainly the results combined with the recent +100$ mark up... It's disappointing.

I'll wait for a few more reviews to come out, but honestly... Well lets just say that I would not recommend that card to anyone. I would also have a problem saying buy a 1080TI because I believe the value out of card like 1080TI/Titan is when you buy it at launch. Not 6+ months later.

In the end, buy the card you want, hell people will buy regardless to despite team green and if that is their reason let em. I mean AMD really is a company that cares about people and not their money....

Dude, chill out, I know you are upset that you could not get one on day one but hey, they will not be $599 permanently. :D I am disappointed to but, AMD cannot control the pricing of the retailers, at least that I am aware of. I would rather have Vega 56 cards regardless and 2 of them at that. It is a shame that the 1080's are also priced above MSRP, even when on sale. :D

#Wait4Navi #FineWine #Excuses incoming

Really dude? Why? The only one that will probably make excuses is you and no one else. Ah, oh well, I love the fact that AMD is still able to bring the A game, even if it is not where ought to be, yet.
