Disney will be pulling many of its films from Netflix, starting with new releases in 2019, but the company hasn’t decided where it would distribute content from Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm yet. Disney’s CEO suggests that the company may simply retain the rights for itself, but Netflix is in active discussions about keeping their superhero and Star Wars films on its service.

Sarandos said he expected Disney's service to be "complementary" to Netflix, which carries other family-friendly programing such as animated movies from "Despicable Me" creator Illumination Entertainment and "Shrek" producer Dreamworks Animation. Disney's plan to stream its content directly to consumers is "a natural evolution" for traditional media companies that Netflix expected, Sarandos said in an interview at an event to celebrate Emmy nominations for his company's drama, "The Crown."

i dont really stream much, if any, disney content from netflix. they have so much original stuff nowadays. any disney/marvel movie would be a dvd to the house

The hell with Disney Netflix should make their own science fiction shows and superhero movies. So far everything Netflix has made has been way better then your avg show.

I hope they find a way to keep the Marvel shows they've been making already. Most of them are not too bad at all. I can sure as hell tell you I'm not paying extra for Disney's service to watch them. I don't care that much.

I agree, and that's what I told my friend about their streaming service. In this case, I think Disney is making a mistake and hasn't done proper due diligence in their research. I think it won't turn out well for them.

im not so sure.. im betting they have been looking at HBO's success with opening up streaming and see they can follow as they have a ton of content thats theirs.

But it's a pigeon hole. They have Marvel, Star Wars, cartoons and what else? I mean I would watch the first 2, but I don't care about their cartoons lineup. There isn't enough content in marvel and star wars to merit keeping an ongoing subscription either. I think it goes bust.

Parents will buy the service for the cartoons. I'm sure the market would be huge and they'll do very well.

A lot of older people, or those that have kids that are more grown, probably won't subscribe. I have no interest in the cartoons. If I do, I'll rent them (no sense in subscribing to a service to watch a cartoon twice a year). Marvel and Star Wars are what I'd be interested in, but wouldn't subscribe to a service for just that. Similar to Star Trek and CBS. Besides, I buy Star Wars and Marvel on Blu-ray. It's convenient to have them on Netflix, so I do watch them there, too.

It'd be a smart thing to leave them on Netflix. Get some of my money instead of none of my money. The cartoons themselves would sustain the service. Pulling Marvel and Star Wars from Netflix wouldn't bring in as many subscribers and money. They'd make keeping the Netflix deal.

In my opinion with absolutely no market research done and just talking out of this hole behind me.

You aren't going far enough down the rabit hole. Disney owns more than just Disney animation, Pixar, Marvel and LucasFilms. In the current form they still have everything under Touchstone. So that includes a number of M. Night Shyamalan films, most of Jerry Bruckheimer films, and many others.

For awhile they had many other branches under them with I am not sure if they would still own rights to any of those movies. This includes Miramax which made many of Kevin Smith movies actually Disney movies there for awhile. I don't know if the rights to those movies would have stuck with Miramax as they went from parent company to parent company or if Disney kept rights to the movies released during their ownership. Same goes for Dimension Films, which was previously part of Miramax making many horror movies for while owned by Disney. To which for awhile there any sequel to a Dimension Film that was created based off a movie from when Miramax owned them, half the money went to Disney. So that leads me to believe they still own some rights to the movies from that period, even if only party. Hollywood Pictures is another former subsidiary. So some might be some older movies, but there is a chance that they could take movies that you don't consider Disney as they had many other companies under them in the past. They just had different names so that the average person wouldn't associate a movie with their kid friendly image.

So Disney wants to pull content from Netflix for their own service? Ha! Disney, while you're at it, shoot yourself in the foot.
Remember go.com? No? Probably won't remember their streaming service either.
