The latest Xbox update has begun rolling out to Xbox Insiders, and it comes with a brand-new user interface. I think this is the third or fourth time Microsoft has changed their Xbox UI, and they may have to do it again, based on early reactions. New features include the ability to customize the Home screen, speedier guide navigation, and easier ways to stay connected with Friends and Clubs. Spotify will also be available starting today.

This release is the next major update for gaming on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, and is designed to make the Xbox gaming experience more fun, personalized, and social than ever. We’ve heard feedback from our fans that they want the ability to customize Home the way they want. This new experience on Xbox One gives gamers more choice and delivers fun faster. Updates to Home, Guide and Community are available today, with updates to Avatars, Game Hubs, Profiles and more coming this fall. Windows 10 PCs will also receive updates to the Game bar and Gaming settings menu.

So the console gets all these options based on customer reactions, yet the desktop gets features removed and a tough shit this is how it is. And unless they just bought steam, they're doing nothing for pc gaming.

Well all their first party games are now coming to PC as well as the Xbox, so that isn't nothing....

And? 15 currently. Whoopie. The games that were already on pc are coming to pc!

They really are doing nothing for pc gaming. Pc gaming under windows 10 is just a side effect from their main gaming xbox stuff because they use the same os. Merely lip service side effect to cover their "promise" that windows 10 is for gamers. Everyone that is not Microsoft is doing the real work.

So... they've made it more like PlayStation OS? At least that's what it looks like to me.

Games and Apps is on the front page. That is all I care about. All the social stuff and ads are a waste of time.

I like the new guide layout but it isn't like it is terrible now.

I am not sure what you are expecting them to do. They got on the bad side of the "law" when they bought Halo and made it a console exclusive. Now all their first party games are PC too.
Gears of War was not on PC until their cross platform announcement.
Forza was not on PC until their cross platform announcement.
Only some really old Halo games was on PC until their cross platform announcement.

I count FOUR tiles shoving ads down customers throats. NO THANKS! In comparison, I see exactly ZERO ads (or "recommendations") when I go to my PS4's home screen.

Yea, they can get annoying. Sometimes, it's way more obvious for an ad and it's not relevant at all. Other times, it's relevant and I'll go to it and actually buy a game. It's rare, because I follow the sales and such online so I know when something is on sale without the ad, but it has happened.

The current dashboard is fine, but it's not perfect. The new one will have it's quirks, too. I just think they didn't fix the old one, they just junked it and started fresh. Hopefully, it works out. I just don't like it from the initial video. Maybe it'll be better in actual use...

Once I'm in game, though, I really don't care. PS4 or XBO. When I'm in game, the controller scheme is the only thing that's different. I'm too busy shooting bad guys (yea, I'm violent and games make me rage! ;)).

True, but they don't bother me overly - no different to starting up steam and seeing the recommendations really. I find the PS4 interface on the other hand to be rather boring. Just a matter of taste I guess.

I also have gears of war for pc (years ago, it was a games for windows live title). And Halo PC. They did make Halo 2 for PC but it was Vista only and I never bought it. After that they stopped making stuff for PC.
Halo PC was tonnes of fun. We'd have 16 player lan parties all the time playing Halo PC (also Halo CE which was a modified version of Halo PC released by the company who did the PC port).

When they originally announced the surface RT (tegra 3 version) I expected them to launch it with a Halo PC title. Then we got halo wars (not at all the same thing) and the surface didn't (and still doesn't) have a built in xbox 360 (or now xbox one) wireless controller receiver... Granted the surface is all business now, but they were marketing the original as a home/student computer.

I prefer the PS4 interface because it's easy to navigate. Xbox One is a gigantic cluster fuck of tiles. I'd be fine with the current Xbox One GUI, if it was bare, then it allowed me to add more tiles if I wanted to. Even the PS4 interface allows me to make more tiles, make folders, etc.

The way I see it, PS4 is like the old classic Windows start menu, while Xbox One is the retarded start menu in Win 10.

If they could make it launch "games and apps" when you turned the system on, that would fix everything that is wrong with it,
