Hello!

I was looking to throw my Razer Deathadder in the garbage can for life after getting the famous double-click issue on my 3rd deathadder in a row in 6 years. I opened it up and cleaned left-clicker multiple times with electronic cleaner. Works for 1 month and right back to it. Warranty ended last year. I know the 2013 edition is out, but 3 with same issue is one too many. I liked the shape too as it was similar to my MS Wheel mouse optical I had in mid-2000s. Ah well, Goodbye Razer.

Logitech, welcome. Now I'm debating between G502 and the wireless G602. I couldn't find any reviews comparing the two. Anyone try both mices? How do they differ in feel?

I don't have any specific requirements TBH. I do some gaming and I use my PC daily for extensive periods (for blogging, some programming, etc). Only issue I see with G602 is battery usage - I wish it was rechargeable. How is the response-time? I do NOT like acceleration! My mousepad is Razer Goliathus Control btw.

I just need some ideas, suggestions. Feel free to recommend other stuff, but I don't want to spend more than $60-65 max.

Mice I owned in the past..
MS Wheel mouse optical
2 Diamondbacks (wire got loose both times - I had no warranty on one of them as I got it used)
3 Deathadders (Left clicker screwed on all 3)

I liked all 3 mice.. but weak build qualities except for the MS wheel mouse optical I used for 4 years before I upgraded to Diamondback. Razer got my money -- 5 of them in 9 years. Cheap MS mouse lasted me 4 years. It is time to move to Logitech..

Once you go wireless, you don't downgrade back to wires. And high polling rate is a gimmick.

From what I have researched about the G502 objectively it seems to be the best mouse due to the sensor. It isn't the high DPI but the tracking performance has been tested to be phenomenal.

Example review -

Whether or not it's suitable for you would be dependent on your preference for the shape, size, weight and/or other functionality requirements (eg. wireless, even more buttons).

This is the mouse I'm personally thinking about getting but my only concern is the weight. Although not really a factor in your case if comparing with the G602.

Unless you're really emphatic about wireless for some reason, I would easily go with the G502 Proteus Core. I've been reading that it is one of the best gaming mice around - fantastic sensor, lots of useful buttons, dual-mode scroll wheel (clicks or flying) that also rocks left and right, high quality omron switches, decent ergonomics if right handed, onboard memory/chip, custom weights etc.. not to mention its performance is top of the line for the price!

The G602 is wireless but it is a "generation" older than the newest "named" Logitech mice. It isn't bad by far and has a similar number of buttons as the 502, but differently aligned. Its certainly not a bad mouse at all and for a wireless model I'd suggest it to be a good option, but it seems like the G502 is a bit more advanced when it comes to the featureset

For what you want to spend, I don't think you'll do much better than the G502 Proteus Core. There are some neat looking things on the horizon (Roccat Nyth for instance . Oh it may not be what you're looking for, but another good option now I hear is the Roccat Tyon. Not sure how expensive it is - has some neat features though ) but if you want to buy now, the G502 Proteus Core seems to be a great option, especially for the price.

Of course, I'm guessing that the 2015 crop of mice will be announced at the Jan/Feb tradeshows, so if you can wait, this may not be a bad idea if you have a specialized interest in one sort or another. However, the G502 seems to be a fantastic "general use/gaming" mouse and is available right now.

Once you go wireless, you don't downgrade back to wires. And high polling rate is a gimmick.

With old wireless mice there was a chance for latency and interference. For high twitch FPS gaming, even the chance of latency or interference is something to avoid. Fortunately, this isn't much of a problem anymore.

The bigger problem is battery life. I do not want to deal with more batteries, plugging things in to charge or moving it to a dock. I'm sure with current batteries they will last months. Being the forgetful type I would forget to charge it and the one day I need it fully charged would be the day I get a day off of work and want to do a marathon gaming session.

Now if some company would make a slick as hell mousepad that was in fact a wireless charger combined with a decent gaming grade mouse, I would make the jump back to wireless. I would probably even pay $150 for it. Until that point I will stick to my wired mouse and use a mouse bungee.

As far as high polling being a gimmick, it depends on the gamer. I prefer high polling rates and I adjust the mouse speed in windows to compensate for the higher speed. It's easier for me to be more accurate and snap to the target quicker this way. I agree that there is a bit of diminishing returns after a certain point. For me, I don't see much improvement after 3,000-4,000 DPI.

Another vote for the G502 here. For your price range it's probably the best mouse to get. In regards to battery life, the G602 is very efficient. With moderate to heavy use you'd probably replace the battery once a month. While it's not a big deal it's still something to think about. Also I believe the 602 uses an older sensor than the 502, but I could be wrong. Overall the 502 will be the better value of the two unless you absolutely need a wireless mouse for whatever reason.

I have never really liked any Logitech mice, which is why I never purchased any.

The g502 has changed my mind.

G502 is the best mouse ive ever used, before this my fav was G9x, Razers products are made of cheap plastic

The G502 is the first mouse I've found that is a worthy successor to my G9Xs. I have no interest in wireless mice. If they made a wireless mouse that felt, weighed, shaped and was otherwise exactly the same as the G502, I would entertain it. They have yet to do that.

I'd agree on the 502. I haven't owned one, but I do have the 602, and I'm not really thrilled with it. It's sorta comfortable, but doesn't have the dual-mode scroll wheel, and it's pretty much impossible to pick up without hitting a thumb button. I've also had issue with the mouse registering if the receiver is more than a few inches away. More often than not I opt for my old G9 over the 602 when I LAN.

+1 for the G502!

It takes a while to get used to as it's a bit smaller than my old mouse (M90) and longer, but once you get used to it, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaymn

How is 502 for fingertip grip? I mainly use that. If it is not good for fingertip grip, what other mice are??

I read the g602 is too large for fingertip grip. That eliminates g602.

Anything else out there that is better or on 502 level for fingertip grip? If not, I might get the 502..

I guess it depends on the size of your hand. I have small hands and do a partial finger grip on my 602, palm sits on the mouse and my fingers and thumb claw the mouse.

I just checked both out last night at my local Best Buy. I really wanted to like the G602, but the lack of dual scrolling modes (which I'm highly addicted to with my M705 work mouse) and the plethora of thumb buttons killed it for me. I'll be picking up a G502 tonight.

I use fingertip grip and the g502 is fine, feels really good.

i read the g500 dont know if it is like this mouse, but its got built in hardware acceleration. hard to remove all.

EDIT: ok i read a little more, and they have acceleration off and snapping according to some sites. so sounds pretty ok. 120 grams though compared to my close to intellimouse weight of what i have now which is 90 grams.

Second this. I'm glad I decided to pick up and try a G502 after I heard that Logitech discontinued the G9x.

Im sad they discontinued the g9x. Years of slamming mine when things went bullshit in cs:s have finally caught up to it. I cant hold a frag or sometimes one click is a double click.

I will give the g502 a look.

I am leaning towards G502 strongly now..

Damn, G502 is back up to $70. I wish I got it when it was $50 at bestbuy :(

All of the mice close to the G9X in shape have been POS. The G502 has been the first mouse I've been happy with since mine died. It's too narrow but everything else is awesome. I'm a fingertip user also.

I played around with the G502 in store but am now thinking against it for a few reasons. The mouse wheel is not too my liking (feel and noise). Wish they just used the same wheel as their non gaming mice like the MX.

Also the shape was a good but not great fit for me. It is on the heavier side as well.

Other options you can look into, and what I'm considering, are the Steelseries Rival (might be similar shape wise to your Razers) and the Logitech G402. I'm also considering the Roccat Pure and Razer Deathadder (maybe?).

In the last year, I had:

G602 - great and I loved the extra buttons but I gave it to my son
G700s - also great, but battery life sucks, I bought a single cell AA charger so I could swap since charging takes forever.
G502 - returned in one day just because it's too small for me.

I got the Roccat Tyon which I'm really liking - it has a lot of buttons and the shape is great for people with big hands that use a claw grip. I play Guild Wars 2 and BF4 the most and this mouse has great features for both FPS and MMO games.

It is a bit heavy...did the display model have all the weights in it?

I didn't check. Not the biggest issue though, I've used both the lighter types of mice (<100g) and the current "average" weight mice (100-110g) before. Also I don't really play with very low sensitivity and need to pick up the mouse repeatedly anymore, and I also use a palm grip, so weight is less of a factor.

Shape also didn't feel as goof of a fit compared to the Deathadder next to it and going back home and retrying an old MX512 (common logitech shell, g402 should be similar).

Main issue though was the mouse wheel. Might get annoying pretty fast in regular usage (for me anyways) in terms of the feel and noise. Not sure about that heavy metallic like grooved design, I think going with what was used on the MX series would've been better (off the top of my mind) and still pricey/fancy looking.

Still might go with it. Might try it again, because oddly I first looked into the G502 because I played with it once when browsing the store and at the time it seemed to really fit well.

Might try to go try a few more this week as well.

Other option is to wait for the next set of releases, some of the options out there (like the Rival) are quite old now design wise and sensor improvements have filtered in. Although with mice it seems that progress doesn't always mean improvement :p.

I'm really enjoying my G502 at 12K dpi. Twitch gaming is great, so I can't complain. :D

The G502 is a great mouse. The sensor is amazing, build quality is great, etc.

The one and only issue it has is that it's just... heavy. I like my gaming mouse to be fairly light weight.

But if you don't mind the weight and the shape works for you it is absolutely the best mouse out there from a function and performance standpoint.

I don't use mine anymore (Currently on a Roccat Kone Pure Military, after going back to my Steelseries Rival for a couple weeks in between) but if they ever put that same sensor in a small lightweight more fingertip grip designed mouse... oh how I will love it.

So I found this thread while hunting for a new mouse and eyeballing this exact comparison (502 vs 602) in addition to 502 vs 403/703. I just wanted to quote this post and ask if you've ordered Logitech's charging mat yet lol.

Normally we frown upon thread necros. However, I believe this one is worthy.

Looking back, my post was quite prophetic. I wonder if someone from Logitech saw it 3 years ago or if someone else also came up with the idea.

I will be purchasing it when my G500s wears out which will likely be within the year. I've gone through a G5, G500, and now a G500s now as I really enjoy their shape. The problem is I tend to wear out the left and right click buttons on them just a few months out of warranty.

Apologies for the necro, but thanks. Yeah it was a bit eerie seeing your post and the mat is coming out this month. Now I have to ask though - how the heck are you wearing out the side buttons that quickly? My old Logitech MX510 took 3-4 years of WoW daily abuse and aside from the finish wearing off never failed me.

Hi CaptNumbNutz, I have been wearing out logitech mice around warranty expiration for a while now and it seems like if I call them about it and offer to ship it back for repair they just ship me a new mouse. You may wish to try this. I'm not sure how long I've had this G502 but it's been a while and I like it. I used wireless mice for a while but I prefer a well built workstation desk with a good chair, spaceco mounts, etc. so what is the point of the wireless mouse if you have usb extension cable and minimal cable routing/hiding abilities? Doesn't matter if one forgets to charge it, it has no battery.

Very good idea! I think it will come down in price after couple months so I will wait.

I ended up getting g402 back when I made this thread btw as it was on sale and much cheaper than g502 :p

Glad for the necro. I received the G703 last week from Logitech to replace a failing G700s, and I LOVE this mouse. It's light, the battery lasts a good week (without the RGB), and I can't wait for the power play mat.

Once you go wireless, you don't downgrade back to wires. And high polling rate is a gimmick.
I always had problems with wireless mouse. The G602 was the last one I used and got fed up with it. It would lose signal and start skipping all the time. All wireless mouses I ever own did it. It happened less when the receiver was plunged into my keyboard but still happened to often.

You may find this video interesting. I ended up getting a G502 (wired), but that was more because it was on sale for cheaper than the wireless options + the mat isn't available yet. I may well switch to a 702 + power mat in the near future.

Just some advice if anyone ever considers Corsair...same double-click issue on their new RGB Glaive mice....bought 2 both had the issue within a month.
