New skill revealed for 3.0, Storm Burst

Here's hoping they add it in the next beta patch

Yep. Looking forward to this. Finally getting a new place and net pretty soon after. 6 month forced poe break has been great but its time to go respec all my bricked chars. Awesome.

At last the new MTX interface patch deployed succesfully last night. It works seamlessly on both the live and beta clients

They revealed some new uniques, which look neat and "unique" mechanics wise, but nothing I'll likely use. MAYBE soul tether.

Also revealed a new bleed keystone, which is pants-on-head retarded and is getting ripped apart by the community.

I'm VERY concerned that there hasn't been a good and comprehensive review of the game's balance, instead just some blanket nerfs/changes to the super-meta. Flasks are still my biggest pet peeve, with the likes of Vinktar breaking the entire balance of the game. The new skills are basically completely untested, and are still being changed. Boss HP has been sent to the moon with non-meta builds having to spend minutes extra on even low-tier maps. ES is OK but probably got hit a bit too hard.

I'm leaning towards a dual wield gladiator using sunder instead of sword and board. Ele Penetration seems to be the most powerful damage type going forward. I've also seen TONS of RF chars during beta. Its incredibly strong.

People still don't realize GGG is purposely destroying the entire map clear speed meta, all of it.
They are making a clear point: No longer can you exploit broken mechanics like double dipping to turn what was always meant to be a secondary source of damage (bleed and poison) into a primary and don't expect "compensation" in the skill tree for the damage "lost".

WTF 10 acts. I hope they are doing away with the difficulty system and just use the acts as the difficulty modifier(act 10 would be like merciless for example). I don't exactly want to do 30 acts worth of content to reach maps... for each character that I make. Otherwise I look forward to the new content, this is one of my favorite games. POE is one of the few games that I can return to multiple times during a year, I usually skip a league or two depending on what they bring to the game.

That's the whole point of doing 10 acts. You take your character through the entire story line in a single playthrough and after that you are ready to start maping.

Which is precisely what I am looking for.

Playing through 4 acts once is fun, by the 6th time it gets real old.

So how are they handling existing current high level chars? And potential skill point deltas in the new 10 acts?

The intention is that while some characters have to start in Act Five, some equivalencies are defined so that others can start later on.

On top of that all characters will get a forced respec/skill points refund and the skill points that you earn in the storyline(from act5 and on) will be substracted so that you earn them again playing through it.

They already did something similar in the beta when they added act8. The Gemling Queen quest skill point reward was reduced from 2 to 1 skill points and characters that had already done that quest got a forced respec and they lost the "extra" skill point they had.

P.S: And even if you can start on later acts you will want to play from act5 and on 'cause you'll have to unlock and collect the Pantheon boss powers.

Man so a little over a week to release. By some strange miracle Ill be in my new place and have my box back up, just in time (5th). Quite a few chars to respec and fix. Looking forward to tinkering with my ed/cont trickster. Looking in my profile, I actually built him hybrid life/es. Should be neat to see how much it'll take to snag up mom for an even larger ehp pool.

That sounds terrible

So well have a level 90 char that can't wear any of our gear we've collected cause we don't have the extra core strength, intelligence, and dexterity modifiers that come off the tree? Lame.

Its not like the eq falls off. You reset/respec your tree and go at it. Generally you shouldnt have stat problems after pathing around. It can be a new build or close to the same as the old one. Its a great tool for testing builds for free, actually. Standard is a playground.. league is the office.

Mass Hysteria going on in the PoE community right now:

Beta Wave 4 hit with some big changes (NERFS!) and then this little snippet came out

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1927472/page/8#p14637825

(Chill and Shock now scale their bonus and seem impossible to put on a boss as described)
(Charges are nerfed to shit and changed significantly)

Which led to this panicked response:

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1927828

(We did these changes for long term, but we might have fucked up so we might revert some of it)
(But still fuck you Assassins, you're getting nerfed anyways)

TLDR: TIMES ARE A CHANGIN' FOR 3.0

Not very thrilled about the frenzy change. It makes some caster builds run way smoother.. should be interesting.

Is 3.0 a good time to try the game again? I've tried it twice in the past and couldn't play for more than an hour. I really liked Diablo and Van Helsing and Victor Vran and Torchlight but couldn't get into this or Grim Dawn.

Yes, the entire core structure of the game is being redone - rather than 4 acts with 3 difficulties, there will be 10 acts with 1 difficulty. There are some changes to early game to make it a bit smoother, however it's still the kind of game where builds start out slow and blossom late - if you are expecting your character to be some kind of mind blowing awesome killing machine within an hour then it's still not the game for you. But if you put say 10 hours into it (well maybe 20 for a new player) and make it to end game - that's where the game really shines - not only through the capability of your build but also via the large number of builds and variations available.

Thanks, I'll check it out then. This Friday right?

There is a countdown on the main site, as of now it's at 4 days 5 hours.

For new players, I recommend following a build guide from the forums class section, rather than trying to come up with your own.

I tried this game a month ago just couldn't get into it..............I couldn't get past the starting area I'm sure it picks up after that...

Hmm.. trying to brainstorm up a build for release.. thinking storm burst cwc with either shield burst for mv or just roll with lwarp.. choices choices.

3.0 is live but the servers just Crashed! Haha, it seems like they're hitting player numbers they weren't totally prepared for.

Happens every time there is an expansion or new league. Literally, every time.

They bought plenty of new servers, player demand is simply pretty high and there is bound to be more since it's not even primetime.

Can't even get to the site to download the game. :(

Don't suppose anyone has a copy of the installer or know of a mirror somewhere? Or are there download servers down as well?

Latest from Chris Wilson:
While we're certainly not blaming this for the problem, some of the load is caused by community members relentlessly spamming our ladder API with various tools. We'll be blocking this to reduce the load. Please be considerate of the rate limits that you apply to your usage of APIs, as they can affect game performance for everyone.

I want to stress that this isn't the core problem. It's just making it worse. We're still working on finding the root cause.

Which is funny because people literally said "they would be smart to limit the number of requests" after taking one look at the code and seeing that it was left completely open. Someone posted a personal indexer thing that anyone could use and I'm guessing a bunch of people started using it and abusing the number of requests they could send:

I'll be diving back into this tomorrow evening. First day play is generally a lil shaky. If you're not hell bent on making early league cash, then I find its just easier to wait a half day or so. Hiccups are generally gone and you can go marathon play without problems. Still unsure what to play, after storm burst got dumpstered. EK sounds good, now. What's everyone else playing?

Man. Finally have my box back up and running at the new place. Installing updates.. man. Fuck being homeless. Should be rocking and rolling in a few hours.

Well, I reinstalled, AGAIN.

This time I'm going to completely ignore Grim Dawn and put all my energy into this....

So be prepared to be bombarded with questions hehe

When is a new league starting, or has it already started?

Gonna hop back into this when I am done with S11 on D3.

I'm glad I gave this game a... third... shot. This was the first time I've gotten past the first hour, and it's pretty fun. I did acts 1-4 over the weekend and am working on 5 now, which I guess is brand new as of 3.0?

Does anyone have any tips with regards to gearing? I have a really crappy red-red-green helm that I've had for 30-some levels now because I can't find anything else with those links. I also just found a 2H sword that outdamages anything else I can find or buy, even though all of my points have gone into Axe skills. I feel like there's probably some crafting or reforging system that I'm overlooking to fix things like this.

Most obvious, basic procedure is:
-Find helm you like
-Jeweler it to 3-4 sockets
-Fusing it to linked sockets
-Spam chromatics until you get what you like

Dex (evasion) helms will favor green links, strength (armor) red, and int (energy shield) blue. This applies to all weapons and armors.

If you have the materials and the proper level Vorici crafting bench the EASY (using the RRG links you want as an example) way is this:
-Find helm you like
-Craft two red sockets into it
-At the crafting bench craft 3 (or 4 for better luck) sockets. If that doesn't give you a green as the third craft it back to 2 sockets at the bench, it will keep the two red as your base colors. Switch between crafting it to two and three sockets until you get RRG.

If you're getting unlucky with drops, you can buy some cheap leveling gear on poe.trade - it's the defacto way to trade in this game. Generally speaking in this game you sell the good loot you get, in order to buy the good loot you want. There's a lot of leveling gear (like a 5L rare body armor, or a low level unique weapon etc) you can buy for just 1 chaos orb.

I've been playing PoE for a few weeks now, I'm currently Level 59 (Duelist). I'm not doing any "league" stuff (no idea what that is) just soloing the story. As of 3.0 they changed the levelling all around, and I seem to be stuck. I'm going into "level 44" zones, which should be cake, and getting totally mauled by mobs that give virtually no exp. Those stupid long arm things that spawn the fire totems are a mess, and the bosses are nuts. I blew away 35% of my to-level exp, down to 0, just fighting the first boss after getting sent back to the "2.0" starter town.

Is this them subtly telling me I should start trying to party?

It's subtly telling you to create a character in the Harbinger league.

Even though there is a permanent Standard league, PoE is balanced around the temp leagues, which usually run for about 3-4 months and feature new content/features - and if the new content is successful it will be added to the base game and future leagues. Harbinger league started last Friday. Most players play the Temp leagues, the character you're having problems with is in Standard where the conversion was a little wonky for already existing characters.

The ideal 'fix' I guess it to create and play a character in the Harbinger league (follow a build guide for a skill you like). Don't worry about levels lost, in time you'll be able to hit L60 on a new char in like 6 hours.
