While Kaspersky Lab has repeatedly denied that it has ties to any government and said it would not help any government with cyber espionage, US officials aren’t buying it: 22 government agencies have been ordered by a congressional panel to share documents on the Moscow-based cyber firm, saying its products could be used to carry out "nefarious activities against the United States.”

The committee "is concerned that Kaspersky Lab is susceptible to manipulation by the Russian government, and that its products could be used as a tool for espionage, sabotage, or other nefarious activities against the United States," wrote the panel's Republican chairman, Lamar Smith, in the letters. They were sent to all Cabinet-level agencies, including the Department of Commerce and Department of Homeland Security, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, among others.

A bit of pot and kettle, yeah, and while the government has the right to buy from whatever vendors it wants, mud-slinging just because "Russia" is pretty shitty.

There is no telling the level of damage or worse could have been done, if KL was working for the FSB.

They had enterprise admin access to hundreds of major Corp.

How about this scenario ... they hacked every motherboard BIOS, every Hard drive Firmware, every video card firmware, every private PC they had access to, and every Govt computer they had access to.

With what? how about something the Russian's can fire off to shut down all our computer systems just before a pre-emptive nuclear strike?

Sounds like time to special rendition Mr K, and get the truth out of him.

So..... Some politician(s) with no computer focused degree/education is warning about computer stuff? Blind leading the blind because Russia! And/or reasons....

Nobody should ever trust a russian. Really. It's a history proven fact.
