Hello,

I have sold my computer and tomorrow I am officially a console gamer (for a few years at least).

Anyway, I already own a PS4 Pro but I have not touched it since March. So I have a couple questions:

1) I want to connect a keyboard and a mouse to play games like Diablo 3. So I'm going to buy XIM4. However, I also want to be able to surf the web the same way I do on my computer. Will it be possible to do that on PS4 as well? Like you know, use keyboard and mouse and visit [H] and YouTube etc.

2) About watching videos. Can I download movies/tv shows (I know, I know, but I absolutely HATE when TV's pause a show just to show me ads) on a USB stick and then play them through PS4 on my TV/home cinema? Does it work out of the box or do I have to do modifications? It's mostly .mkv files we're talking about, but I would like support for all major video codecs.

Thanks :)=

Games like diablo 3 actually play much better with the controller than a xim, the xim really shines for shooters though.

Your m+kb will work like a controller when connected to the xim but should function properly when connected to the PS4 for web browsing.

As for media I'm not sure, I have played a few avi videos off a USB drive but anything beyond that I just stream it to my PS4 with plex which transcodes on the fly.

You can't used a mouse and keyboard to play D3 because it doesn't support click to move at all. And controller input is superior in D3 /facepalm

Hmmm, I just have hard time imagining Diablo 3 with a controller. Not that I say it's bad or worse than keyboard + mouse, I just can't imagine how that would work.
Shame it doesn't support click to move but it's understandable.

Anyway, my 2 questions still stand.

You should update your signature now, OP. :p

I haven't tried to play anything off of USB drives on my PS4, but according to Google:
What video formats does the ps4 play?
  • MKV. Visual: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile Level4.2. Audio: MP3, AAC LC, AC-3 (Dolby Digital)
  • AVI. Visual: MPEG4 ASP, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile Level4.2. ...
  • MP4. Visual: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile Level4.2. ...
  • MPEG-2 TS. Visual: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile Level4.2, MPEG2 Visual.
Can you play MKV files on ps4?

If the MKV video is encoded with other video/audio codecs like DTS, your PS4 would not able to recognize and read it. In this case, an ultimate solution is to convert MKV to PS4 most compatible H.264/MPEG-4 .mp4 video. To achieve the goal, Brosoft Video Converter is the best video app we can recommend.

Can you watch movies on ps4 with USB?

If you browse through the PS4's content area, you'll find a Media Player tile that allows you to download it. You can stream files off of a home server or a USB stick that you plug into the system. Many of the major file formats you'd hope for are supported, such as MKV, AVI, and MP4.

Once you play it, you'll understand. It does take some getting used to picking targets with your directional movement, at first, but Blizzard did a pretty good job with how it works.

Well erm, I bought Rocket League since it's basically the only game I play besides Diablo 3 and while I slowly am getting used to PS4 gamepad (I'm used to X-Box gamepad), all I can say is that 4k PC is where true gaming is :D
But I can live with this so long until new AMD CPU's and Volta are out.

.mkv files actually play fine on PS4, there was some out of sync sound/video near the very end of a tv show I played. I'm not sure if it was PS4 or the file.
I connected a wired mouse and keyboard to PS4 and it recognized both and both are lid up, but they are not working when I try to type. What am I missing?

no

no

You need a computer.

If you wanted to play with kb+m, maybe you should have kept your PC....

I have 2 PCs with 13 1060's hooked up. I have decided to use them for surfing the net and watching videos.
I sold my gaming PC with 1080Ti.

Games will be played on PS4. XIM 4 has been ordered.

I like point and click for Diablo, but I've always felt a controller was better. Even with the hacky mods you could use for the old ones. It feels natural to just move your character with an analog stick. The mouse (obviously) works fine, but I prefer the pad.

For a lack of sense of humor.

I don't lack a sense of humor, I just don't understand the joke. Maybe if you explain it to me I would laugh at it, but right now, I have no clue wtf you people are talking about.
