Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

The Diablo gods are finally starting to cut me a break. I found a Primal Karlei's Point last night, and about 20 minutes later I found a Primal Holy Point Shot. Too bad I still haven't found a 2nd gift so I cant use the Karlei's yet, but it'll be a nice bump when I can.

Nice. I got my first primal yesterday, but it was the Hellcat Waistguard thing for the Grenades build. 8/13 ancients for my Impale set so far, one gift drop but I blew that on a Yang's Recurve, so my ancient Karlei's is lacking.

Would you mind linking to your character profile? I basically just copied the spec and gear of the top DH on the leaderboard and randomly guessed on what to shoot for on enchants.

Coming from a Multishot build before this, GR bosses are laughably easy. They're frozen or stunned half the time and the other half you just Vault behind them before they attack.

Yours looks pretty much exactly like mine:

I've been doing the same thing, checking the leaderboards to see what people have been running. I haven't tried using a Pain Enhancer yet so I don't know how much of a difference it will make.

I ran UE multishot for a few seasons and after seeing this build last season I switched over to it. Multishot was just so squishy. I do want to try out the grenades build. I have a Primal Dawn that I got last season so I'm keeping a lookout for anything else that the grenade build requires. I'll fool around with it in between seasons and see how much I like it.

Damn, our Dex is the same but your damage doubles mine. CHC/CHD I assume? None of my jewelry had sockets so I had to waste re-enchanting to get them and I have CDR on my gloves and quiver instead of CHC/CHD. And no Ramalamaandaandi's Gift for my weapon, as mentioned.

Is a single 8% roll on the shoulders enough CDR for 100% Vengeance uptime? What about Fan of Knives?

Not having CHD on your gloves is hurting a lot. In addition to not having CHD/C on all jewelry. You also dont have any +DMG% on your weapon. That 500 dmg baseline boost Cypher has is huge from the +10% he's rocking + higher base dmg roll.

I can reroll the gloves I guess, not sure Vengeance will stay up 100% of the time without it though.

Don't think I can do anything on the jewelry since they didn't have sockets initially, and I can't reroll the weapon socket until I get a Ram. Gift drop. Oh well. :(

Thanks for the tips, more farming to do I guess.

I know for permanent Vengeance you need 37% CDR. I'm not sure what I'm at with paragon points/diamond helm/Gogok but what I can say is with what I'm running currently, it is super close between when it runs out and when I can recast it. Close enough for me to not know which happens first. I ran some solo GR80's last night and yes I died a few times, but I don't think Vengeance uptime is the issue. It could have been fan of knives though. I'll have to check tonight. Realistically unless I'm trying to push as high as possible and be super competitive then that fraction of a second of not having it up probably doesn't matter.

If I remember correctly, the gift added like 200k sheet DPS when I added it. I'm not sure how much DPS i'll get from my Primal, but I do know it will be an 8% damage increase over what I have now.

Anyone else having a shitty time with RNG? I can't find an ancient legendary upgrade to save my life, just constant junk for my necro.

Do you have to solo a 70 on your Seasonal toon to unlock the Primals?

I switched to CHC/CHD on my gloves and quiver, and switched to a non-ancient CoE that already had a socket and added CHD to that, and gained about 200k damage. Vengeance still has a 100% uptime assuming full Gogok stacks, but Fan of Knives does not. Maybe killing things quicker will compensate for the drop in toughness.

I think that's all I can do until I get a Ram Gift or a better rolled Endless Walk set.

Do you have to solo a 70 on your Seasonal toon to unlock the Primals?

I think so, or groups should work too I assume?

i used to love this game and do return to it maybe twice per year, but i really don't get the competitiveness with it... what do these people get out of it??

This is why I stopped playing. I'm glad they add content but until the chances of an actual upgrade exists more evenly I'm not wasting my time. It's simple to get to grift 75, anything after, especially over 80 requires extremely specific gear and the time you need to invest to make that happen is entirely not worth it.

You need to re-unlock Primals every season by doing a solo GR70. Groups will not work.

Got a second gift, cleared a GR82 in under 10 minutes. That put me at 255 on the leaderboard but I'm sure I wont be there that long. I also finally leveled up my Boon gem and finished my last conquest to finish the journey. I'll have to see if I feel like starting a Necro tomorrow.

Congrats. I did GR76 earlier and can maybe go higher, still no Ram Gift though. :(

First gift is always the hardest.

After that it drops like candies.

I got one around Paragon 200 actually and blew it on a weapon for a spec I didn't stick with. Paragon 535 now and I've not yet gotten another.

This is my first season having just picked up RoS a few weeks ago, man a lot has changed since I last played. I am completely lost with half the stuff you guys are talking about but I'll get there eventually. I got a bit of a late start to the season because of internet troubles but I managed to hit 70 pretty quick and all I have left is to solo a GR20 to finish the 4th chapter. Unfortunately barb has always been one of my favorites so that is what I picked for my seasonal charter but it seems like they are pretty weak when it comes to playing solo from what most people say.

On another note, what Gem is best used in a socketed helm now that I hit lvl 70? Is it still best to have a Ruby to get paragon levels a little bit quicker or am I better off with something else?

Once you hit 70 the xp gem cuts to only a 10th of what it was so instead of say 41% for a flawless royal it drops to 4.1%.... Better off usually running a diamond in helm for cooldown reduction.

I loved playing the whirlwind Barb for the season I played it, and supposedly is isn't that weak. I've actually seen a couple this season so that's a good sign. I haven't played Barb in a while, but I'm pretty sure you end up using a diamond in the helm. Actually most of the builds I can think of use diamond in the helm for CDR. Since you don't have a set yet it probably doesn't matter. Paragon levels come fast and hard once you have a full set and run some high level GR's.

Just the RNG. I'm at Paragon 600, and have gotten 10 of them so far this season. Ancient weapons though are another thing altogether. I don't have a clue at how many mats I used to reroll just one.

Yeah I knew the benefit of the Ruby really dropped off when you hit 70 I just wasn't sure what the best thing to replace it was. I will be sure to drop a Diamond in my helm tonight.

That's good to hear that Barbs are maybe somewhat viable this season then. Most of what I was reading people were saying that no one really played barbs in previous season because they weren't that good. I just always had fun playing a whirlwind Barb even back in D2 that that's what I wanted to go with.

Finally got my solo 70 knocked out earlier tonight, then 15 minutes later got my first primal of season, a Leoric's Crown...

^I got a primal Kymbo's Gold yesterday, if that makes you feel less bad at all. :(

Just did GR80, took a solid 14 minutes though. I'd have to do GR81 or shave off 2 minutes to crack the leaderboards. Probably not going to happen without a Ramaladni's Gift; shit just takes too long to kill.

I just ripped on my necro, probably going to just hold off for PoE 3.0 and come back next season. I really enjoyed the class though.

I just played my non-seasonal Monk for the first time since the season started and got a Ramaladni's Gift within ten minutes. :|

Edit: Finally got one on my seasonal character, but it only added about 100k sheet DPS and I still can't do GR80 any more efficiently or GR81 at all. Oh well. :(

If the build you have now is your Gift build I'd recommend following:

Get rid of bracer and get wraps of clarity
Try to get +12 disc on chest, you only have 10 which is losing 80% dmg.
Get rid of boon hoarder and belt. Use bane stricken and try for belt with better gains. Witching for example.

other than that, you are prime stat gear hunting and ideal Grift running waiting for more para points and leving gems for + dex.

Oh, no, that's my farming gear and spec. I do Shadow Impale for GRs, I just didn't log out in it apparently.

I'll switch it back tonight if you want to check again and see if you have any tips. :) I kinda gave up on getting past GR80 and started playing my WD and Necro more.

Ah, thought that might be the case. I never built the shadow set as i gave up on game before that was a big deal. Good luck.

Gotcha. I never got much further than GR65 with a multi-shot build... too little damage. I think it got nerfed in some fashion in the past couple seasons and is no longer the top build, barely in the top 5. Really good for farming normal rifts, though.

I switched to Shadow Impale with a bunch of crap I had in my stash and could immediately do GR75, and a couple more item drops and tweaks and practice got me through GR80. I hit a brick wall after that and cannot go any higher, even after adding about a hundred paragon levels and a Ramaladni's Gift (rerolled the existing socket to +10% damage) and +600 dexterity through augments.

I was wondering about that. I looked at my season 8 character. Did a Grift 75 in 7 minutes with a multishot build, and that character wasn't exactly bursting with power. Now I struggle to get past 60 with it.

The main thing I don't like about impale is that it's super squishy. The second you lose your aqua cuirass buff, you can be one shot, which is not good in HC. Using a unity can allow you to survive with a little more leniency, but then without the CoE buff, I barely beat grift 75.

I don't think my Aquila buff is ever going away, with the dagger constantly returning hatred. Or maybe it is and the character sheet isn't reflecting it. The fan of knives buff definitely is though... need about 40% CDR to have that up all the time which is hard to do without sacrificing a huge amount of damage.

On a related note, maybe I'm just playing Shadow Impale wrong? I swear you're supposed to skip all trash and just kill the elites, but I kept dying due to having a hundred normal mobs wailing on me at all times and not being able to single out the elite mobs. A moment ago I did GR81 and GR82 with no deaths by just killing absolutely everything, but ran out of time on GR83 (15:45). I wish trash mobs counted more towards the progress bar.

I'll usually only bother with trash if it's a decent group, or if I need to clear an area to fight and elite/champion.

Looking at your gear, you're at the point where you pretty much need to start augmenting gear. I'd start with the COE since you'll never find a better one. You have some room for improvement on some of your rolls (like your helm is at 4.5 crit damage, roll it to 6.0) so I'd recheck all of that and make the rolls perfect, or as close as they can be. Also an Oculus Ring on your follower will give you a nice damage boost.

Oculus Ring is a good idea, thanks. I'd been doing Justice Lantern to make Freeze of Deflection proc more, but surviving isn't really my issue right now, damage is. I should probably fish for better rifts, too; some are just awful and packed with shielding and arcane elites and zero pylons.

My Rathma Necro is now starting to fall into place, still missing a few crucial pieces and I am still flimsy as f (I can't stand anymore than a stiff breeze), I don't remember even D2 Necro to be this flimsy, and they were flimsy.

Still missing the Tragoul Scythe, the double mages ring (that mechanic is really stupid) and (SIGH) reaper's wraps.

If you didn't know, you have to craft Reaper's Wraps. The plan drops when you kill Malthael. That is the only way to get them.

My Necro hit 850k dps but has a measly 5.5m toughness. I had to take the skill that has a chance to drop health orbs when consuming a corpse. The gear grind is real now.

I find that the Inarius Bone Storm build is a lot better than Rathma, both in terms of damage and survivability, even after the recent nerf. Maybe that changes at higher gear levels.

On a related note, the Trag Corpse Lance build that's 100% of the Necro leaderboard right now, and 10-15 levels above any other class or spec, might be the least fun thing I've ever played. Are you just supposed to stand around and do nothing while Land of the Dead is on cooldown?

Yea it's called the frogger spec and you just jump from elite pack to elite pack.
