Its all good bud.

You gonna do a build thread for the new 2p?

I'm running NFS@Home as I've not done this project before.

I was in two minds between Universe and NFS as my next focus. NFS requires at least 1.5G of memory per instance for the highest scoring tasks so most rigs are OK on that with the 4P better placed on Universe.

I tried NFS, requires too much resources and it's difficult to share it with other projects so I stopped it.

Running Universe@Home, NumbersFields@Home, ClimatePrediction and LHC right now. Got WEP M2 on suspend since I got us pretty deep into 1st right now.

Universe@Home we're still losing ground by 6k points per day. I just started so it might close that gap a little more.
NumbersFields@home we're gaining out spot back at 1k points per day as of today.
LHC we are gaining 26k PPD on #1, but those Christians are reeling us in at 14k PPD, but we are more than twice as far ahead of them. Like 3+M points.

That's why we need to slowly recruit more new crunchers (you are good at that) and spread out the load... :)
We can gain good points for NFS, so I'll take care of that, maybe phoenicis bloke might jump in too?.

Where and how do I join ? Doing p95 with a few servers and my own rig, few cores on each server only, no GPU on the server(s), Xeons only

Download the client software - https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
We have an installation How to for Windows, Ubutnu, and CentOS in the guides section.
Then you have to create your account at the individual projects. I recommend using BAM. We also have a guide walking through setting it up because it really is easier to use if you are supporting multiple projects.
Make sure to join our team after creating the account. I have a link to our team page at every project on the all inclusive dc-list v2 thread also in the guides section for convenience if you don't want to do it through BAM or have troubles.
I would have more detailed instructions in this reply but am limited while at work. :p

MindModeling@Home finally has some work. It's been in short bursts over the last couple of days but today's batch seems to be a steadier stream.

A note of caution to anybody interested, the tasks are quick and commensurately low scoring with extremely tight deadlines.

Thank you Gilthanis,

I have used Boinc years back but forgot my login and password..if I ever had one I dunno, so I created a new account ( BitMaster69 ) and installed the software, that seems to work OK so far.

What I cant find out is how to do join the NFS@Home Team of [H]ard|OCP. I have joined NFS@Home and it runs ;) Just how do I join the Team ? Do I have to create an account at this site ? https://escatter11.fullerton.edu/nfs/team_display.php?teamid=613

Can I tell NFS to use less cores ? Those Xeons I have access to need most of their cores for production, so I have to limit core count usage or use a different job for them that allows this.

When I do prime95 I only give half of my CPU for p95, the rest is mine for surfing the net and YT etc... This NFS takes it all WAAHAAAA ...ok for now but not forever...will see how I can manage this.

How to install BOINC for Windows/Ubuntu with pics - https://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1768558 I think around pic 18 in the first post has a picture of what you are looking for. At the bottom where it says On multiprocessing systems, use at most... change that to 50 to use half of your cpu threads.

OK, I got it !

The menue in Boinc changed since you made the screenshots so I had to fiddle a little but all good, part of the Team now and only 50% CPU usage.

I will need some time for dragging the Xeons over, 1 is an Ubuntu 17.04 LTE SRV. I need to test this in a VMware setup before I touch that machine. Any info regarding Ubuntu welcome.

Thanks Gilthanis !

Nothing special on Ubuntu, specially if only CPU ... just install from repo and assign to the projects you want support. I run 17.04 on two Ryzen Boxen without any issue.
If you are in VMware or similar just make sure not to overallocate the system.

I got a 200 tasks processed but they are dry now. At least we moved up from 4th to 3rd spot.

We did even better than that mate. We were in 6th place yesterday morning and, as you say, have ended just short of Heidelberg in 3rd place. Not bad for a day's work and thanks for jumping onto it pututu :)

They have just released some more tight deadline, short run work which apparently signifies either the end or beginning of a batch.

Edit: Deleted my 1st dumbass edit

Yeah, they have adjusted the client a bit but for the most part can still give the idea. I tend to use the local preference over global ones because I have too many systems needing different configurations. I'm not a Linux guru, so cannot give a lot of insight there. I know about enough to load it on a system and install the repot to get CPU crunching going.

So I am doing NFS now, what else "makes sense" for the team ?

I will look into the servers tonight if I find the time, kids take all my time right now...so be patient with the Xeons.

I will test Boinc in an Ubuntu that I have in VMware before I deploy it over VPN to the actual Dell T-330 machine, it's FAR away and I dont want to go there in case some bad things happen..ehhh
The 2 others are Dell T-710 and T-610...which will be replaced soon by new servers..maybe I can grab those for home and use them solely for that...depends on eletricity costs, we pay .30 cents/kWh €,
thats like 4 x the price compared to Texas rates waahhaaaa.

Happy crunching

Right now our BOINC contributors seem focused on Formula-BOINC. However, we do have the SETI-Wow Event coming up next month that only has about 4 members signed up. Check out our thread here: https://hardforum.com/threads/seti-home-wow-event-2017-by-seti-germany.1938559/

I also try to keep up on a challenges thread that is stickied here: https://hardforum.com/threads/dc-challenges-2017.1921074/

If you are just looking at Formula-BOINC, any active project that we are currently not 1st in would suffice. http://formula-boinc.org/index.py?lang=&team=6928&year=2017

Sorry, this is the first I've been on the forum in a while. I've been far too busy to do much of anything, and I'm likely going to be selling off some hardware in preparation for my next 2P build.

With threadripper right around the corner I might abandon the xeon 2p I was working on. Probably a good time to sell a xeon before threadripper hits and the prices go down. I have 2x 2680 v3. Been seeing these sell pretty good right now on ebay. But probably a good time to buy xeon after threadripper hits. Only reason being is my main pc which I game on the mobo fried so need to rebuild that and not really sure how well gaming on xeon is going to be :)

We moved up to 4th spot on NFS.

We are now 100 points behind Grid$ though we are in different leagues... But nice to see if we can match them in total points.

Hopefully when falls/winter is here, more rigs will be converted to heaters

I'll do some Seti when the time comes.

Grab a 6c 12t CFL and enjoy gaming.

How mmuch do you pay per Kilowatt ? I pay ~0.30€ incl. all taxes. Wish I had an old meter so I could use my 250kg mag ;)

Sprint event is NFS@home. There are a few of us running this over the past week or so.

You guys let me know if the team needs some assistance. If it looks like we're gonna claim a gold without me then I'm gonna sit this one out. If we need help though I'll round up the troops and fire all my boxen up.

Only because we're currently, without everyone running the project, the 2nd highest production on the project right now. Very easily mind you. So I think we'll be fine for this sprint.

Just tag me in this thread and/or start a conversation with me. I check my emails constantly.

Silver is not enough and Bronze no one remembers. Gold only.

Looks like we are 3rd in NFS@home just passed Bulgaria :woot:

Hmm, what about double gold in both sprint and marathon? Getting greedy here... heh heh

We're gonna get 1st in the Marathon. Not that far behind. I'm gonna continue to focus on NumberFields and Universe@home to claim those marathon golds.

I mean getting gold in marathon during the sprint event, not after. Might be close but we'll see.

Close? We'd have to do over 1M points each day to cover that gap. Not sure we can close 3M points up that quickly.

We are now at 3rd. We are about 900K behind as of today but will be less tomorrow. We are doing about give/take 300K/day, hence close. The teams ahead us might ramp up too. New pair of glasses needed lol...

Oh damn, I can't calculate when I have been drinking.

I thought we were in 2nd with ~3M points to go. haha.

I bumped my Genmay thread with information to gather some recruits. We'll see how it goes.
