The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

Well that sucks - I thought my choices had an impact on multiple endings - like most RPG's.

Oh well, I am at the start of "Something Ends - Something Begins"

I guess I will go back & do a bunch of contracts & secondary quests since none of my choices determine the end.
There are multiple endings that your choices do impact.

not sure what you are talking about, there are multiple endings regarding the characters. The first DLC is just added content for the game. The second DLC will affirm the endings if played after game completion, not sure how that works if you did the
"geralt dies"
ending

I haven't finished the game, so I don't know what I'm talking about either yet...

Just don't spoil anything for me please - thanks!

Heeey hold up there a second. Your choices have a huge effect on the different endings. I think he meant Geralt's personality doesn't change.

WOW - WOW - WOW again!!!!

"Scenes from a Marriage" was the most interesting, artistic, impressionistic, game segment I have ever seen in my life @ age 53 (text / dungeon & sports gaming against VAX-1032 mainframes since age 10).

BRAVO to the devs @ CD Projekt RED

Yeah, that's what I meant, sorry if I confused you talk2troy. I'd never spoil you on anything :)

Is there an on / off HUD hotkey? I tried just turning it off, and I am lost without it .
~ I'll try to spend more time w/ out it - but an on / off hotkey would be GREAT!!!!

Is there a HUD mod for this?
~ ok, just searched & need to try one of these - Witcher 3 Nexus - HUD Mods
~ this looks promising - Friendly HUD at The Witcher 3 Nexus - Mods and community

Anyway, this might interest newcomers to the game in the future...

I got impatient & just wanted to plow forward in the story, so I grabbed the "Fast Travel from Anywhere" mod and got busy. I quickly got through some major story points - but also realized that I was missing out on all the "random / chance" encounters that occur along the way - so I just started running again & riding Roach more for medium jaunts. I went back to only using Fast Travel for really long distances. You miss out on a lot by fast traveling, but you get side tracked a lot by NOT fast traveling... YMMV

I was just feeling like - dammit - I may never walk this path again, so I better take every contract & secondary quest that comes along or I'll never see it again. Eventually, I learned to use the J key / Quest HUD & loosened up a bit, but there is so much AWESOME here - I don't wanna' miss any!!!

Anyway, this is one of the very few games that I will play again & maybe again after that...

I might even play again after that as long as my video card & display keeps getting better!

:D

Cool thing about TW3, every time you play the game, you can always find something new.

BTW - after a particularly long story segment & too much time in Novigrad...
I was given a mission that took me for a long ride through wilderness w/ Roach.

At some point, I stopped to get a beer from the fridge & said - out loud - in my house - by myself:

"OMG, it's so nice to get out of the city..."

Seriously - I was so into the game that it was a huge relief to get out of the city & just gawk at the sky, mountains, trees, lakes, rivers & sunset...

Call me Geralt.

Well, I finished the main story line with "Something Ends, Something Begins".

I did not really like the ending but understand it sets me up for the DLC (haven't started either DLC yet).

I also saw titles for videos that gave away at least 2 other endings & wish I had not seen them - dammit!!!!

10 minute version...

I must be confused, because I thought Yen & Geralt were going to run away & just bang in the wilderness for a while.

Anyway, I'm still "cleaning up" left over / secondary missions, contracts & treasure hunts per location.
~ ie: I'm taking on everything in Skellge & almost done, then I'll go to Novigrad, etc.

I'm also picking every notice board clean of postings as I pass them & new stuff is still being added (I think?) or new stuff is added as a result of the things I just completed. There are still TONS of "?" marks on my map and places I've never been, so I might milk this for awhile & just continue to enjoy the world.

Finally (for today), I found a video while searching for the vids in the spolier above & found this...

It piqued my interest & I might & I might go back to play Witcher 1 & 2 before starting the DLC!!!!!

Is there an on / off HUD hotkey? <snip>

Installing this now - LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!

Friendly HUD at The Witcher 3 Nexus - Mods and community

EDIT: Got it working & playing w/ NO HUD!
The video / tutorial is out of date, so it took some screwing around.
When I use Witcher senses / right click the minimap shows up.
When I draw my sword, I get the health bar, etc. Cool beans!

*Back up the files he says to before copying / overwriting / changing anything!

god, it looks fucking gorgeous, i finally started playing it :p

you guys using any mods with it (aside from the hud mentioned in this page)? do i have to? like, i really must use x or something because it looks great or it makes something better or just because its so fucking cool?

If you guys are clearing unknown locations then absolutely do not bother anything with The Skelliga islands in the water. The only thing you are going to get is lots of items which is fine if you need money but otherwise it's just a massive time waste.

No mods are necessary... just play Vanilla for the first 20-40-80 hours.

There are 2 minor mods to fix misc clipping & close up textures to add after you "live in it" for a while.
~ they are: Nitpickers Patch + HD Reworked

Playing w/ out a HUD is glorious, but more difficult & most HUD options can tweaked in the menus.
~ I think it's Options > Video > HUD > tons of settings!!!

Friendly HUD is a tricky install, but mini-map on RT click w/ witcher senses & health bars only when you draw weapons & more.
~ makes it a lot friendlier... imagine that!

ahh cool, i saw the HD Reworked when i listed the top files, but for now i'll just play as it is then :)

The Witcher 3 is not like Elder Scrolls/Fallout. You don't need mods to experience the best game play.

I hate this game cause I don't have time to play it basically it's a single player RPG MMO.

hey hey so, im at the beginning, right? so, i saw this child walking around, and then i thought "heyyy, im gonna kill this fucking kid! children annoys me, lets see what happens! :D" and then i draw my sword ready to slay the frigging pest, and then, comes a message saying "you cannot do this" or something, and i "awwwwww! cmooooooon!! this sucks!" :D

other than that, so far so good! really enjoying it :D

using these two for now :D

older games may allow it but...
There are few things that will earn you an AO rating quicker than killing children, even if the rest of your game is relatively tame. A game with an AO rating is nearly impossible to sell to the general public. The majority of big retailers just won't carry the game, so you'd be limited to online platforms like Steam, and I'm not even sure if Steam will carry AO games. You'd have to distribute the game yourself, and even then your sales would be limited unless your studio was already well-known. The best developers can make an art of crossing boundaries, where they will transgress just enough to get their game in stores and get people talking about it, instead of making something so blatantly offensive that nobody wants anything do with it. Allowing a player to kill children is pretty difficult to justify, and most developers just won't take that risk.

Things have changed since the first Fallout games. Oh well... not a big loss, IMO.

It's not even AO that's the problem. Some games might not care, they might not submit for rating (remember ratings are voluntary in the US) and just distribute online, or might even use it as a selling point for being hardcore. No the real problem is the EU. If you can kill children, the EU will flat out ban your game. Doesn't matter the circumstances, doesn't matter the narrative, doesn't matter if the game makes you a baddie for it, you get banned.

Well that's a big market, so not something companies will deal with, and making a EU and non EU version is a pain so they just don't do it. The original Fallout actually had to be modified for sale in Europe (this law predated the EU itself in many countries) and there's a European version where all the kids are replaced with invisible sprites. Not really an elegant solution.

yeah no i was just toying around, im still at level 1 and just found this board with it seems a bunch of sidequests on it :D

This is the most beautiful game I've ever seen hands down. Dropped like 26 hours in 2 weeks, on to DLC#2 now. Was watching some twitch streams, feel sorry for the console peasants missing out. Even my i5-2500k/gtx 780 setup looked 2x as good, and i've upgraded since starting also.

Just started playing this... WOW. 40 hours in and level 6, completed all in White Orchid that I know of and could only get to level 4. Just finished up the "underground quest" in Velen with that sorcerer chick. Now off to see the Baron. The hype is real !! Loving how this game flows. Also, so far it seems they pegged the difficulty. I have to use potions and prep for "some" enemies on sword and story mode.... especially tough when you first get to Velen most everything is higher level than you are. Also loving how exploration pays off... Werewolf, anyone?

Trying to balance exploration with following story line. For example, the female herbalist in white orchid was not a ?, I found her by pure luck just exploring.

Gamechanger tip... turn "enemy level-scaling" OFF.

If I am level 2, 9, 18, 23, etc. I want to dispense with common low-level enemies like drowners, wraiths, wolves & bears at their natural level vs. my advanced level. Why should drowners, wraiths, wolves & bears advance to my skill level? That's cray-cray...

Drowners, wraiths, wolves & bears are what they are - they should not become level 2, 9, 18, 23 drowners, wraiths, wolves & bears!

Remember that old meme "Deus Ex: every time you mention it, someone will reinstall it."? I think Witcher 3 might be the same in the future.

I've kept it installed since release, it's one of the few games that never gets uninstalled.

Any tips for a noob? Anything that should be crafted early in the game? I'm at the part in the game where you meet the "warlord" that got drunk.

the best advice I can give is not to bother with the ? in the ocean (unless you have to be completionist). It only nets you loot but you waste so much time doing it it just is not worthwhile (unless you need cash). None are quest related. You will never find any "secrets" or anything special or any better gear. Combat also is very poor, almost an afterthought. just crossbow the swimming enemies while floating in water. repeat until everything is dead.

jiminator makes a good point RE: boats, but it's fun to blast around in them if you need transportation & the scenery from the water is GREAT!
