I have around 54TB of data spread among 17 drives, and it boggles my mind how I could replace nearly all of that hardware with this single SSD. Viking Technology claims that its 50TB UHC-Silo SSD is the highest-capacity drive of its kind shipping today, though it appears to be strictly focused on capacity: the read/write specifications are not particularly impressive. You can check out the product brief (PDF) here.

Viking Technology Ultra High-Capacity (UHC) Silo Series SSD (up to 50TB) is a 3.5-inch solid state drive with a plug-and-play 6Gb/s SAS (Dual-port active-active) interface. The UHC-Silo series SSD is optimized for capacity and performance balanced workloads of datacenters and supports 1 drive writes per day (DWPD) for 5 years. Purpose built for datacenters needing energy efficient, high-capacity SSDs, the UHC-Silo series can greatly increase overall storage capacity per square in. while decreasing power per terabyte. Datacenters looking to transition to the plug-and-play UHC-Silo series SSD can realize cost efficiency between power, space, and cooling by up to 80% per terabyte.

do i not get credit again for posting this yesterday................so many times of done this stuff with no credit.......

You've said this multiple times across multiple news posts and have been told just as many times the proper avenues to submit news. At this point I can't tell if you're trolling or just padding your post count.

True. I also question what would he benefit from credit in the first place ? I also wonder how he can conclude the news poster posted especially because of his forum thread ? I mean, it's possible they saw this news somewhere else and shared without checking all the forum post, no?

My 2 cents..

Hey, that's about the performance of MY current SSD. :'-( Then again I'm still rocking a 2600k, so I'm practically browsing with an Enigma machine, at this point.

Hardly, the 2600K is very capable of a CPU, nothing out there really does much of jack and shit to stress it outside edge case shit most people never do.

Depends, I think the newer news posters make payment per approved news postings (thought I read that). If he's submitting and then someone else is posting it as their own, that's not right. More details would be needed as that's a helluva accusation.

I've also seen a ton of Megalith's posts that are repeats of the news posted during the week. There was one earlier today that was posted on Thursday or Friday. It doesn't look intentional, just that he's not reading the weekly news here. There was one last week where the repeat was posted in the same exact day, a few hours apart. It wasn't an update, it was the same article sourced by two different news posters.

Now this isn't a gripe, it doesn't bother me (although it does fracture the discussion). It's just an observation that there might be a slight flaw in the current process that has only come to light recently. Back before when there was a dedicated weekday (Steve) and weekend poster, the one person sourcing usually wouldn't overlap/duplicate their own post. When you add a ton of independent chefs to the kitchen, certain food items may get made multiple times without the proper process in place.

I used to do news postings for a Gamespot website when I was a teenager (year 2000), so I knew that it was important to stay on top of your own news postings as well as those of your teammates to prevent overlap.

Mine is older than that.. Actually I don't even remember what it is at this point and to lazy to open my case haha. Guess I'm running an abacus if yours is an enigma.

As to news post credit.. Who cares? I submit things all the time I want to discuss. Most of the time I'm not credited because I don't care or need credit. I've been asked numerous times, but I see little point beyond epeen. Yes the official news posters get paid in some manner. If you don't like it, the application post is stickied. Either way, quit moaning.

I never knew that "epeen" was a "thing." Had to Google it. Thanks Dekoth-E-.

I said this before, there must be a way to make a ssd with more capacity but not necessarily with a damn throughput in the GBs .

Sell something for NAS devices and you are golden, which doesnt need that much speed.

That way, we can finally move away from spinning drives.

I'd consider paying US$ 5000 for one of those 50 TB drives. It would be totally worth it.

I need something like this. I don't need high speed - just lots of capacity. This would be perfect for local CrashPlan backups and storing my media files.
Right now, I have about 15 hard drives - mostly WD Red's 5400 RPM. Not the speediest devices, but for my use, don't need the speed.

How the heck do I back up such a drive? I'm feeling a little tera-fied about losing all the data.

I would be happy if I could just get a 750gig for under $200. Two of those (1 primary, 1 backup) and honestly that's all the storage I need. My 80gb ssd is maxed but I'm only using like 400gb of my 1tb storage.

Kyle pays them with a "cream" of some sort from what I hear :D

Well, right now, a 2TB SSD is around $1500. So, I think you're in for a very long wait.
I think a huge drive like that, ssd or hdd, would change everything we do on a computer. We could a backup running like a raid 0 in the same drive, we could have logs text and screencapture and video capture 24/7 of everything we do on the computer, so many interesting things could be done/changed! It's kind of amazing.

The what !? Log texts / video !? Are you running a library lol ?
