Can you imagine if it was released at $400 all along? Wasnt this supposed to be the original price point? $300 for the rift + $100 for controllers? Man VR would have probably come much further by now because more people would have adopted and more developers would have given it attention seeing the adoption rates high.

Also I dont see any newer versions of VR coming around the corner. I've been pretty heavily into the scene and just getting to where we are today was a feat, there has been pretty much nothing regarding next gen in the pipe. 4k screens are too expensive, portable VR hasnt been solved, etc. There's nothing beyond the earliest experimentation phases at the moment. Also Oculus has always been pretty forthcoming with their tech, we'd know about something new by now. $400 is a really good deal for a finish product.

I got the Amazon Prime Day deal for $399 with the touch controllers and the $100 gift card. an additional $80 off by taking the Amazon credit card.
Paid for it with the Amazon card which is another 5% off.
$399-$80=$319 -5%=$303.05+tax $25.01= $328.06 if you take the $100 gift card off the total is $228.06

Couldn't pass it up for that even though I already a Vive. This was at 5 AM so don't know it they are still available.

I bit on the amazon deal. I was going to buy from my local BB and trade in a laptop to put $75 towards it, with the amazon deal it seemed like a no brainer. This will be my second rift, I enjoyed it the first time but didn't seem worth the $600 and I had to wear glasses, this time I'll buy the VR lens lab inserts and the net $300 price tag makes it much easier to swallow.

For $10 you could get these glasses from Zenni, I have read multiple threads saying they work well.

Also they make you look like the bad guy from Indiana Jones.

For $18 shipped I'm in. For that price if they suck I can throw them in the glove box or leave them some place handy just incase I ever break my main pair.

If it had released in the $400 "ballpark" that would've been a wrap. Too bad the bean counters at Facebook weren't willing to take that leap at the time. Now they're only hoping to claw back some of the market share that was theirs for the taking in the first place.

There are some headsets from OEMs partnering with Microsoft and an LG headset with Vive/SteamVR branding coming soon, but Oculus is probably not going to have anything new too soon nor HTC. For $400 Oculus is a far better value than Vive at the moment.

With the $100 amazon card bundle being dead it would appear BestBuy is the place to buy this since it bundles in EVE: Valkyrie.

Too bad oculus is owned by FB. That's a definite no-go for me.

Well, Windows is owned by Microsoft, and that was a definite no-go for me as well during my OS/2 days, but I've learned to get over it.

Echewing tech based on corporate ownership is of course your choice, but it's not like you have to create a Facebook account to use the Rift. I don't care for FB either, but I have/use a Rift and don't have a FB account. At this price point ($400), I'm pretty sure they aren't making any money and many think they are actually selling it at a loss at this point... So buying it might actually align with your desire to not only not support them... but it may also help negatively impact them, so perhaps you need to reassess your reasoning. You'll just need to make sure you don't buy any software games/programs from their store and just use Steam for your VR purchases if you do buy.

Oh, wait! You were just throwing that reason out there because you have other reasons for not being able to make such a purchase and stating such reasoning eases your mind... I get it now.

I doubt this has much, if anything, to do with new hardware coming out and dumping stock. I think it's far more likely that the Rift is not selling nearly as well as the Vive.

Still, for this price even I (as a Vive owner) would be tempted if I had the money to spend on it.

But you'll be paying tax at BB. Personally I didnt find EVE to be all that good, i'd rather save the tax and buy some other AAA vr title.

Unless you live near NH and cross the border for tax free shopping.
But yeah, taxes kinda kill it. Man that deal with the gift card would have been awesome thou.

Prime exclusive and doesn't ship internationally. So I am wondering if I should keep my original 399 order for rift + touch or join prime and get the one w/ gift card which would result me in shipping it to NYC and then using a service to ship it to UAE (resulting in almost only 75 bucks savings and delaying my order for another week or 2). Choices.

Rift Expected delivery: Thursday, July 20, 2017 - Thursday, July 27, 2017 by 8 PM
Touch Arriving Jul 26 - Aug 2

Damn, gotta wait almost a month lol

When you sign the EULA of rift you agree to have your entire viewing content (along with your body movement data IIRC) history stored to Facebooks database. And as for me not affording to buy a 400 dollar device? Really? Where do you live, in a ghetto?

With the potential to sell out I'd probably keep my line in queue before you change your order, get a date, then next week get a sad email saying "sowwie, we ran out, your new ETA: Unknown"

No fucks given if FB has my body movement data. And another flying fuck given if they get to know which VR game I launch. That keeps you up at night? Really?

And here's a real shocker for you, Google and your local ISP pretty much have you covered as to every site you visit and all queries you make. Did that stop you from buying a PC or getting onto the net?

The whole "I can't buy a Rift because FB owns Oculus" argument is some pretty weak sauce, but fully your opinion and choice as to avoiding some really great VR tech. It's when you flaunt it in a post to promote it that it becomes the annoying unsolicited religion peddler that rings the front doorbell just as everyone sits down for VR dinner. I made the mistake of answering the door it seems. My bad.

Not to mention you create an account. Go create a free email account somewhere and put in bogus data if you are that freaked out about it. Heck, game through a VPN so they cannot know your true IP address.

As others have said, FB tracking your movement data should be the least of your concerns - especially if you are a Verizon customer (today's OMG moment).

Uh you're totally wrong. With Facebook you give your consent on full espionage thats tied to your personal identification. With Google and other use they can only track my IP and perhaps some devices, all of which change frequently and can't be tied to me personally.

If you don't care about your privacy you're short sighted. Typical for a Facebook user. Then again a typical facebook user spends all his/her time looking at the stupid information on FB and never achieves anything with their life worthwhile enough to be attacked against using the violation of the privacy.

Have a source for that?

Dude, chill. Go back and re-read my first response to your post. Here, let me save you some time scrolling back up: I DON'T HAVE A FUCKING FACEBOOK ACCOUNT! I don't use FB at all. I do have an Oculus home account though, which is really no different than a Steam account.

You don't need a facebook account. Once you start using their services (which rift is part of) FB owns you.

Bullshit. You're just proselytizing privacy paranoia and fear mongering. Nothing you linked has me worried. It's no different than Steam. Sure, if you use FB already, then you've already pretty much flushed your privacy down the crapper and drank the kool-aid.
But owning/using a Rift does not make you a FB user or require that you have a FB account. Again, the Oculus store and VR services are no different then using Steam. Have fun with your paranoia, I'll continue to enjoy VR, both PC flavors. You should probably unplug your cable modem and cancel with your ISP... you know, just to protect your privacy and all that.

Nobody should use Facebook and even more, nobody should support them financially by purchasing products from the companies they've obtained through exploiting people.

So - I'm not going to touch anything FB related with a yard long stick regardless of how good a 'deal' they offer.

People like you are the reason for the complete downfall of modern society.

I don't have prime and don't want overpriced BS. I bought mine through BBuy. I hope it is substantially better than PS4 pro with PSVR or it will be returned.....

PSVR controllers and tracking on the PS4 is like a really bad novelty toy with missing batteries in comparison with the Rift/Vive. Don't get me wrong, the PSVR has its niche carved out nicely as the only real console VR option and it does it well as a seated on the couch experience, but it pales in comparison to what a Rift+Touch or Vive VR setup offers.

Can you see the light or is your head shoved so far up your own ass that it makes you blind?

It's 2017 - privacy is just a figment of your imagination. If you think that Facebook doesn't already have heaps of information on you even without an account then you're in for a rude surprise. Companies such as your ISP and credit card providers share/sell your information with each other. It's just how it is with the digital age. Want privacy? Be prepared to live completely off the grid.

...or you can just suck it up and realize who the fuck cares if these companies know where you shop and what weird shit you look at on the internet.

Let's see... I could jump on a great deal that CHANGES THE WAY WE USE COMPUTERS AND PLAY GAMES AT A FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL or I could come into a thread and shit on it.

My Rift and third sensor get here tomorrow.

Privacy is a concern, but my ISP watches everything I do, Android/Google catch about 90% of that plus everyone I call or text, Amazon knows that I keep putting that zombie FleshLight sleeve into my cart and deleting it, and Oculus/FaceBook know some of the games I play. Valve/Steam know the rest...
