Hello,

I purchased a Lenovo Y700 (17") June 2, 2016 and of course it fails to power on a month after the warranty expires. It's been sitting on my desk for the past year, despite it being a mobile device. It did have some power on issues last December, but I just re-installed the OS without the extra software that comes packed with it.

Last night I finished work, then turned it off. Came back in the room the next day and it doesn't power on at all. So right now I am currently looking for a new battery in Japan, but having 0 luck, and no one ships batteries overseas.

I've done the following:
  1. Pulled the battery, pressed the power button 10 times for 1 sec then a long 30 sec hold, reconnect the battery and AC adapter.
  2. Holding power button for 30 sec.
  3. Press the little button on the side/ hold that button for a few seconds.
  4. Prepare my Amazon Wishlist for a Mini ITX build.
Anything I should try before throwing in the towel?

I think the AC adapter may be dead. It's cold to the touch, which is making me happy at the moment...

Haha why are you happy about this? Have you tried replacing the CMOS?
Usually it's warm to the touch even when the laptop is not plugged in. It's room temp. Which makes me think it has no power going to it at all.

Got a multimeter to test it out?

Unfortunately not here in this country.

I tested the CMOS battery, and it has a charge. The AC adapter will be here in a few hours and I brought the laptop with me to the office so I can test. I kinda want an excuse to buy a new machine and give my old comp to the GF.

What country? Want to borrow mine? Haha my multimeter got gf lol

I'm in Japan.

Tested, no go. I am for sure done with laptops (portable Wacom tablets are OK :D) and 1000% sure done with Lenovo anything. I was warned before purchase, but went ahead anyways because some people had good things to say. Next time I go to America, I will send it back and have Lenovo repair and see where it failed. Get it refurb'ed and sell it. If I am too lazy, just sell it as-is.

Thanks Rec0de for the CMOS idea.

Silver lining: New PC excuse.

It looks like it's dead. I had someone take a look and no power at all is going to the mobo, and Lenovo wants the ranch to fix it.
