Inside VR - Binge Before the 4th

Thanks for uploading the Granison video, Kyle.

The first and only time that I've used VR was in 1995 at a local ICON comic show playing Dark Forces with a joystick, and I was absolutely immersed! It's really irritated me when people constantly said that this tech that is 20+ years old is "new," but after watching this video, I realised that it's brand new to them, and remembering how excited 11-year old me was, I'll be cutting them some slack. I still want to try VR again before getting properly excited again, but that video helped me get there much more than any ads have.

The only reason VR is so highly ranked on here is because of all the VR news posted. Of course it will rank higher. Still think in its current form it is more fad than anything. I'm also not a fan of how obsessive people get with things like this. People are disconnected enough from the real world how it is, I just don't see this as a healthy evolution for mankind.

Now, for medical and science research and treatment, I'm all for it.

So what made you choose Vive over Rift, Kyle? Last I heard you were thinking about it but didn't want to.

Thanks for your on-topic comments about our Inside VR episodes.

I don't know why some people want to overthink it so much, at least when it comes to gaming. Anyone that has a PC VR setup understands the basic issues like nausea, wires, cost, etc. It's certainly not a mass consumption product at this time. It may never be. But I can't recall ever having so much fun playing computer games in my life, and I've been doing it for 4 decades now. Even in its current state, PC VR raises the bar to where it's never been with this type of technology, and while not cheap, it can be done within a traditional high end PC gaming budget.

I'm all for VR, and I've been excited to watch it grow, and I'm looking forward to its future. I'm glad that Inside VR is there to give us insight into it.

When this can be accomplished with low latency, wireless. Things get interesting.

And Kyle, as far as the quality of the videos for this, they are really top notch... Not knocking the information and production value!

While I haven't tried the Vive, I'd still have to agree. The Lighthouse sensors only needing to plug into a wall versus needing a dedicated USB 3 port for each Rift sensor is a hug advantage in the Vive's favor.

For me the biggest difference was in the headsets themselves. While tracking with the Vive is hands down better, that's about it for me on the positives. Plus, it's not like the Oculus with a third (or forth and still cheaper over all) sensor is some slouch at all.

Otherwise the Oculus is better over all and I'm sure most would agree. Better lenses (more peripheral detail), more comfortable, built in headphones, Touch controllers are more comfortable and smaller (feels more natural too), and the software...for me...has been flawless since I got it a couple months ago (coming from the Vive).

Thanks for the videos, I really enjoyed them. I had forgotten about Irrational Exuberance and have added it to the long list of games/demos I've installed. I'm debating the purchase of Onward, but I might just wait for Fallout 4 VR and give the Doom 3 mod a try.

I got my Vive in yesterday, put in about 3 hours of VR last night staying up way too late, and had a blast.

FREE! Spider-Man: Homecoming - Virtual Reality Experience:

Saw one review that wasn't too hot on it but free and Spidey so what the hey?

Loved the videos.

I can't express enough to people who've never tried the Vive or room-scale VR, that it's incredible now, as is. The experience is top-notch and extremely entertaining, so there is no reason to go on about how the tech isn't here yet, and VR is a fad. Just be happy there is new and incredible technology that will blow your socks off. If you love technology, I don't see how there couldn't be extreme excitement about this consumer level hardware available now.

That was meant to come off as funny, but it didn't. Sorry. The problem I have with the Rift room-scale, is all of the cords.

I think the cords are equal between the two. HDMI, USB and 3 power cords for the VIVE; HDMI and 4 USB for Oculus room scale. So, 5 cords for each. No breakout box or continuous power draw from 3 power bricks for the Oculus, though
