Was hoping to see a MSI Godlike board but doesn't seem to be one, yet. The Biostar one looks interesting but only having 4 SATA ports is really disappointing, not sure why they would only have 4 instead of 8, even for a X299 board.
 
I'd would honestly love to see a plain old green pcb motherboard with the base x299 feature set and not a single thing more
 
I won't be happy until the entire board is clear plexi with 10 RGB LEDs per inch.

I hear rumors that a couple of these boards might come with 5Gb/10Gb NICs onboard...
 
the MSI X299 Xpower Gaming AC is the one i want while i wish its appearance was like the MSI X299 SLI Plus. :(
 
I'll pay tree-fiddy to someone who can make a high end motherboard which looks like a motherboard and not a vegas night club. I really don't want any decorative lights at all.

I'm guessing the asus prime may be the best bet at this point?

Exactly, my case has no windows, so I just buy server or workstation boards, I have work to do, LED's are something you cover with tape.

I just want to know if it's on or off.

This. They are going really overboard with the damn RBG bling factor on EVERYTHING now. I been a gamer for nearly 30 years. When did gamer suddenly think they needed all these flashing lights everywhere? I have never though this shit was cool. I don't care if you can turn it off. The fact they have it means they probably jacked the price up $50 on some of these boards for $5 worth of leds.
 
There are some damn good looking motherboards in this thread and some atrocities as well. I look forward to torturing some of them.

Gigabyte ones are ugly AF, most of the ASUS ones look pretty good.

I liked most of the ASUS models, ASRock's X299 Formula OC and I thought the MSI XPOWER Gaming AC board looked good in particular.
 
The RAID key thing bothered me, but by the look of it you still get Intel fake raid with these boards. You just need the dongle to enable RSTe CPU enhanced raid.
 
I noticed a lot of the higher priced boards have wireless AC built in however I think it's only 867mbps. I already have an AC1900 Asus USB adaptor than does 1300mbps on 5ghz so I'm going to pass on those boards unless I decide to spring for faster memory support or better aesthetics.

The X299 boards are on sale over here in Asus's and Gigabyte's Backyard.

The CPUs that goes with them? Nope....
 
I think they dont even bother to release the OC-Formula on the AMD platform because they know how AMD sucks for overclocking, no magic overclocks to be done there.
 
I got me eye on that ASUS TUF board :)

I haven't decided if the 8+ core system I intend to build is going to be AMD or Intel at this point(I'll watch how AMD's bios issues settle out while I wait to have enough money set aside), but if I go Intel that X299 TUF Mark I is definitely the board I'd look to use. I have a Z170 Sabertooth Mark I in my main PC, and I LOVE it. I miss the software-overclocking of their non-TUF boards(still a little bitter about that), but the basic overclocking wizard in the UEFI gave me a decent boost with very little hassle, and I'd rather have a system that could run non-stop 24x7, which my machines usually do. Keep the fancy LED's and 3D-printable bits & bobs, I'd rather have a tank of a board that I know will never quit on me :)
 
ASRock ITX looks badass. I'll be patiently waiting for a review of the board as I may switch to a mITX setup.
 
What a shame...

So many of these high-end mobo's still only have gigabit nics on them... It's infuriating that they are still putting obsolete tech in new expensive enthusiast hardware. I have only noticed two of these boards have 10Gbe nics which really limits my choices.

What not buy a separate 10GB NIC and never worry about paying that premium on a mobo again?

This is what I would suggest if you really have a need for 10GbE in your home and the infrastructure to support it. With so many PCIe lanes available, making an argument for built in 10GbE is a difficult one.

It's the principle of the matter. If I am spending $400+ on a new motherboard, I want the latest and greatest and I don't feel that I should have sacrifice a PCIe slot and spend even more money on a 10Gbe NIC because the manufacturer was too lazy or cheap to include it in the place. I don't expect 10Gbe NICs to be included on low-end or mid-range motherboards but I do expect modern server and high-end gaming motherboards to have them built in.

Sorry, but gaming motherboards have yet to make that transition. It isn't purely a cost issue as the cost of 1GbE and 10GbE PHY's is the same. There are some other considerations relating to PCIe lane allocation and frankly, until X299 it wasn't really possible without sacrificing PCIe lanes used for other things. The HSIO architecture of X299 and the extra PCIe lanes will make that transition more likely. Even so, it seems that some manufacturers are embracing some 5GbE bullshit instead of full on 10GbE.

I (meaning my wallet) am really leaning towards a Coffee Lake / GTX 2080 build...

And I already have the Corsair SF600 SFX PSU...

Plus, the Phanteks Evolv Shift has tempered glass & RGB goodness...! ;^p

I also keep thinking of a Ryzen 5 1600 / RX Vega 56 build, but then I think of the better stability (and improved GPU horsepower) that the Intel / Nvidia solution would provide...?
