Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I don't know if I'm just enjoying the Shadow Impale build or if it's the quest for primals but I've put far more time into this season then I ever have before. I'm up to paragon 838 and have five items augmented with level 80 gems. Generally I'm done by paragon 650 and never do more augments than the journey requires.

I think I'm up to six primals so far, only two have been usable in my builds. Someone on Reddit calculated it's around .25% drop rate for primals. As much as I want more of them I'm happy it's that low. It feels really good when you actually get one... until you find out it's a completely useless item that you'll never use.

I enjoy the impale build, but it takes a lot of attention on HC. It's super tough until your resources drop below 95%, at which point you can be one shot fairly easily.

I just got into the Necro Beta. I would show stuff, but I don't think it matters... since basically everything is up by content providers already on Youtube. Also, it does mean I'll be at level 1.

Im para 650ish and Ive seen 2 primals. Those 2 however were both Nutcrackers and they dropped in the same gaming session. I got one, salvaged it, got another immediately after, salvaged it, havent seen one since. My drop success this season is awful, including shards. As an example, my UE DH which is GR65 capable (used as a fast rift/bounty runner) is using a lvl61 bracer (the generator drops dmg when hit one). I have not see or gambled for another in 650 para levels.

Also annoying is the drops of sets. As a DH, I have no shortage of drops for the nats set, I could easily have ancients for all. The others maybe 1 or 2. Same for WD. I could have had a full ancient 3x over of the Jade set, where my tooth/zun/ac set has 1-2. The drop logic is very agitating. That said I have gotten 15+ gifts for modding weapons and well over 10 vault rings. Silly...

Purely conspiracy theory here, but when enchanting, try equipping gear that's completely not what you're after.

This is actually where the PS4 shines, due to the ability to reload saved games. Yes, HC is a joke as you can't die, and the leaderboards are filled with people in full primal gear with the perfect rolls, but that's besides the point. The RNG is not really random. That is, if you reload the game, and do something like go to Kadala, you'll get the same items with the same exact stats every single time. Yes, it's cheating, but there are ways to manipulate what you get. The question comes down to, how do you manipulate the RNG to get what you want...

The wifey got an invite, I did not. She was excited, but then again we are at Paragon 10 or something this season, sigh, LOL.

Yea you will get burned out after a while, like most of us put it down a few months then come right back and play for a month or so non stop just to do it over. Every time they come out with a big patch I come back and play some more.

This is exactly me. I've probably taken 2 years to build my character to a Para level 20-something with some decent gear. But I'm also playing on PS3, so I'm sure the Necro expansion will not be hitting me, and I'm not about to drop money for a PS4 just for Diablo...

Wow I'm out of touch. Had no idea the console was that "broken". Course haven't owned one since PS2.

I might get a few more para levels but Im pretty much done. Necro holds 0 interest to me, especially as dlc. Time to move on. Thankfully summer approaches.

Just started the Necromancer test and I've got to say the feel of this class fits so well with Diablo. Really liking this so far!

I'm almost 70, but the beta servers clearly have problems. I keep getting booted from games and getting error messages.

EDIT: Are Necromancer weapons only available in Seasonal? Crap, that means I have to regrind all this out...

As another note, if someone would help me do conquests in Seasonal, I'd appreciate it. Please send me a PM here or message me through b.net chat. Jeremiah#1810.

Hi All,

Not read the entire thread but I played a bit of D3 back in the day, IIRC I played as a Demon Hunter and just went at it. I've never played any other Diablo games nor anything them before or since. I didn't really think about it too much and just went around killing demons and collecting loot. I then reached a point where it just felt impossibly difficult and gave up (got bored essentially).

I guess my question is, is there a right and wrong way to play this game? I'm thinking about getting back into it (assuming it can hold my attention) but there doesn't seem to be much to it to my eyes which makes me think I must be missing something...

Any tips or suggestions welcome!

Pick a build and farm for it. If you are in a public game and you're looking for something specific don't be afraid to ask people to keep an eye out for it. A barbarian will usually give you any monk gear they find if they know you need it. D3 doesn't have a ton of viable builds for every toon like some other isometric ARPGs do. If you want to make your own build go for it and have fun, but you probably won't be farming very high level rifts.

Made my first crusader lol. And yes, I've had D3 since the week it launched.

Thorns is pretty fun. Kinda nice building gear that something other than CHC/CHD.

Paragon 130 or so and I can easily roll through T7. Haven't pushed any higher grifts yet.

Did they ever fix 144hz? I remember trying and reading a ton of stuff about how the game is internally locked at 60hz.

The game will run at your display's refresh rate, but G-sync is still a bit weird. There was some talk about the game being set at an internal 60fps, so I have both V-sync on (which you need to have on for G-sync) and frame limited it to 120 (2x 60) frames per second. The odd stuttering still happens no matter which client (32 or 64 bit) and the nicer AA isn't that much better.

Depends on the guide in question, but yes, you will generally want to move into Torment eventually because a LOT of gear (class sets specifically) are locked to Torments. The 'smoothness' of gear progression depends heavily on the exact set in question. EG a shadow 2pc will allow you to jump torments very early on, while UE for example will only see that jump after getting your 6pc effect. Generally, however, 6pc is THE big jump.

Also, ancients only start dropping in Torment, though you should not worry too much about those during progression.

Yeah, I moved up the difficulty after completing the story mode. A step higher after several hours at a difficulty to acclimate myself. Should I be running with those helpers they offered back at base? It kinda felt like the game reduced my drops when I was using them.

Yes, you should be using them whenever you are solo'ing, unless you find their presence being an actual hinderance to your build.

Drops are unaffected by having a follower or not.

Did you join the [H] group on diablo 3? If so just shoot one of us messages and we can always help you in game

Necro is pretty fun. Although I have to note that at least two of the builds are really close to each other. There is only so many good secondary skills, and the set bonuses don't help differentiate them.

Blood Nova is obviously the way to go for two sets. And then for the zoo set, I tend to go Corpse explosion. I haven't played the bone set, but I can figure out how it's going to play. I'm not playing at T13 or maxed out or anything yet, so I have no idea how top builds will look. Things are much slower with no one to play with. Grinding a RoRG solo is super painful. Anyway, those are my thoughts in no particular order.

Build that I am finding interesting to run on necro is Bones of Rathma with Jairoan Arms sets, Circle of Nailuj ring and Reaper Wraps bracer using Command Skeletons with Kill command, Skeletal mage with Contamination, Devour with devouring Aura and Army of the Dead with Blighted Grasp skills. Also have Death's Scythe, Steuart's greaves and Lornelle's Sunstone in the cube. Since the 6 pc bonus of Bones of Rathma increases dmg of Command Skeletons and Army of the Dead by 200% using Reaper Wraps along with Devour allows me to keep my essence ffilled almost 100% of time letting me spam Skeletal Mage constantly. the Circle ring gives me 2 Mages per cast for less essence per Mage. With a max of 10 Mages active at any time that gives my other skeletons 1000% dmg boost almost constantly. Been fun so far.... :D

Did everyone know the Necro was gonna be paid DLC but me?

I dunno if I really wanna pay $15 just to play the necro for a few days....

I look at it as follows. It gives 2 extra character slots and 2 extra stash tabs. In Path of Exile, that would be $12 alone without the character. If you don't need those though, there's no real need to spend money on it. Unfortunately, Blizzard added a character to a game which hasn't really changed at all in the past couple years.

Shit, I had to pay $40 for Morrowind DLC which contained zero extra character slots, only one added class, a pretty small additional land called Vvardenfell, no additional storage and a broken new pvp mode in ESO. I'll gladly pay $15 for this update. I know blizzard will deliver a quality DLC.

I played the beta and I enjoyed it, will be buying it when I get some cash, so broke right now.

I also did not know it was a paid class expansion. I just uninstalled and will wait for a new one. I just bought the ESO stuff on the Steam sale, so I just started playing that game.

I bought it, but since I only play Seasons, I get to wait almost a month to actually do anything. So dumb, the way they did this.

It's been common knowledge since not long after the first announcement that the necromancer would be a paid DLC.

Agreed and same here. Besides, I'm busy with other games from the steam sale. I'll probably start DH and roll a Necro second during the season. I am looking forward to trying it out though.

After a long hiatus with this game, I recently started playing again. I got the necromancer DLC yesterday and been having fun with that. I'll have the try the new season when it starts.

Is the Necromancer any different than the other pet builds you can currently have like the WD, Crusader or Monk? Seems like we should have gotten this years ago when the game was still fresh.

Yeah it's a different style, there's some kind of weird "carcass" thing you can use. I agree it would have been good about a year ago, keep the momentum up from the Crusader class (which didn't really do much).

It's not necessary to buy the DLC though, the patch does contain new levels.

Yeah fuck Blizzard, I'm not spending 15 dollars on one class that's insane. It's basically a pumped up witch doctor. I've already played this game enough, the end game has 0 diversity and depth to it at all. I liked Diablo 3 but after 10 seasons I think I'm completely turned off by the whole experience. I've been playing Median XL and POE, far better experiences in my opinion. Path of Exile 3.0 is going to blow away Diablo III in terms of content by any metrics, and Maps was a far better experience than endlessly grinding out the same rifts. I don't hate Diablo 3, I played season 10, but it's nothing but a couple generic cookie cutter builds per class and grinding for the same set pieces.
