Bought an I350 NIC hoping to play with SR/IOV and my PC refuses to boot with it installed. Any thoughts on why? The only similar story I've found was resolved by disabling PXE on the NIC via a working system and the Intel BootUtil.

I'm wondering if the firmware on this card is smart enough to look for a server class chipset (is that even possible?) and refuse to function otherwise. The only system I have that it works in is my server with on-board I350s. So I don't know if it's just because the motherboard is 'new enough' or because it's a server.

is the system posting? if so check your bios, make sure pxe boot is off. have you tired it in multiple slots?

The lights come on and fans spin up, hangs around for ~5 seconds and then powers off. It will then re-power itself and do the same thing as long as I let it. I have a Z68 board (also Gigabyte) that will also power on, but interestingly won't spin up the CPU fan and doesn't cycle the power itself. It also doesn't display anything on the monitor.

PXE is already disabled on the motherboard in all cases.

hmm. from what I can tell theres nothing really special about it, like server only. is it a know good card?

Only 2 to pick from, but yes. BIOS is up to date as well. If I can get the opportunity to bring down the server today I'll try and disable PXE directly on the card with the Intel tool.
