Ryzen AM4 mobo's with only HDMI 1.4 are stupid

I imagine the HDMI/DP specs listed are for the current AM4 Bristol Ridge parts as Raven Ridge has not been released.

They may not actually hold back Raven Ridge at all depending on how much of the output circuitry is integrated into the APU.

I think this is the correct answer. Unfortunately it went over the head of too many people here.

As far as my research goes, unless I am mistaken, Ryzen is a complete no go for 4k Netflix on PC (I am assuming here that you are using the Windows app to watch it), the netflix 4k requires ALL of the following:

1. Kaby Lake CPU (netflix still haven't updated on whether Ryzen is ok or not, but assume it does not). If Ryzen doesn't support it, or if Netflix doesn't support a similar decoding system on Ryzen, Ryzen is a complete NO GO.

2. You need a HDCP2.2 TV AND GPU, neither of which are given. So far the only TV I'd trust to have HDCP 2.2 are the ones that explicitly says so on their spec sheet, and the only GPUs that support HDCP are GTX 1050 and higher GPU, or Polaris GPUs.

I did some research on this as I wanted to build a HTPC/couching gaming build that was also going for 4k Netflix, but I gave up on the idea as it effectively would involve replacing my living room.

4k HW capability, AFAIK, has nothing to do with it.

and we have a winner...

the port has absolutely no effect on whether it's 1.4 or 2.0.. bristol ridge only supports hdmi 1.4 and raven ridge will support hdmi 2.0.

Nope if you and Pgaster do your homework you'll see that the Soc Carrizo and Carrizo2 = Bristol Ridge support Hdmi 2.0 and H.265 capability, the display block and decode/encode capability is upgraded over the Tonga gcn 1.2 for the Apu.
Secondly you are also admitting to the fact that in so many months time if you wish to use Hdmi2 (4k 60hz at desktop without lag, xbmc without lag etc) that the Raven ridge will support you would have to buy a 2nd motherboard that hopefully includes a hdmi 2.0 port.
Of course if you are only buying at the time of Raven Ridge then you still need to see boards with hdmi 2 or at the very minimum a dp 1.2.
Thinking out the box and not a gamer who will just class this as niche and oh who cares just get a discreet gpu attitude.,
You need the bandwidth capability of hdmi2 and ideally 2.1 for 10/12 bit panels at 4k resolution 4:2:2 at 10 bit and 4:2:0 at 12 bit. HDMI 2.1 is required for 4:4:4 at 10/12 bit.
You also need the bandwidth to provide multi channel high bit rate audio such as Dts hd audio master

So the title of this thread has relevance and I totally agree with his viewpoint. In particular to the upcoming Itx boards which should have nothing less than a hdmi 2.0 port but itx boards like the upcoming gigabyte ab350n wifi only have hdmi 1.4 or dp 1.2 .

So, you're telling me that Carrizo/renamed Carrizo support DP1.3?

Because that's a requirement for HDMI2.0 support on every GCN GPU in existence.

Sirmonkey said ''the port has absolutely no effect on whether it's 1.4 or 2.0.. bristol ridge only supports hdmi 1.4 and raven ridge will support hdmi 2.0''.
This is incorrect Bristol Ridge/Carrizo are not limited to hdmi 1.4 the Dce11 is capable of hdmi 2.0, but as Bristol Ridge is only available through OEM's and Ryzen has no Igp we are not seeing the same mistake Amd/Board manufacturers are making
to the (Fury no HDMI 2 port problem).

Carrizo/b-ridge supports via the Dce11 module, Hdmi 2.0, Dp 1.2 and Edp 1.4 (effectively dp 1.3). Carrizo was a mobile soc with a unique tweaked Igp and has no direct association with any discreet gcn card,
