I'm sure this has been asked over and over, but SSDs are getting better and better every few months.

Long story short, I need to replace my wife's 500GB 5400rpm drive. The MBPro is in great condition, it's just the harddrive is slow as hell.

This is for a MacBookPro9.2 (mid 2012 model).

Size isnt' a factor, so I think 120GB is plenty for the machine. I'm narrowing it down to a Sansdisk model or the OEM OWC model.

Thoughts? Anyone have great luck with something else?

TIA,

You should be OK with most SATA SSDs. I have a Crucial MX300 in my 2011 MBPro and it's fine.

It's a different type but I would rule out the OWC drive. I have had 3 OWC Aura 480GB fail under warranty. I think they overheat.

Agreed, most any current 2.5" SATA SSD would be fine (though I stay away from any producer who have performed component shenanigans in the past, e.g. Kingston). I've had a 250 GB Crucial M4 in my mid-2011 MBP 13" almost from the beginning.

a 120 GB-class SSD might be OK, but space tends to get tight once you start adding in apps, media files, etc. I'd recommend going with at least a 250 GB-class unit. Bonus, it'll be faster.

any will work but don't get oem due to the lower warranty period. the new wd blue's look like a good bang for buck too.

Thanks for the tips! I walked over to Bestbuy at lunch and snagged a 240GB Sansdisk for $82. I hate shopping at BB but I had a $20 giftcard from work so that helped bring the price down and make it a no brainer!

Update: the Sansdisk SSD was a great low cost choice.

Used SuperDuper to clone everything over (Disk utility was nagging me about some weird error). Test boot worked great (and much faster). Swapped out drive this morning and surprised the wife!

Thanks again fellas!
