And it is very fast. That said, I am going to strongly miss the Windows Mobile OS and ecosystem, I have used nothing but that for the past 6 years or so. :( However, although I am not a big app person, the apps I was using were not well supported and some were being discontinued from availability. :( Also, the two primary apps I used were slow loaded and one would always crash on my Lumia 650, unless it was not connected to the internet.

One thing I need to figure out is, how do you change that Google search box widget to a Bing search box widget? I simply prefer Bing over Google, it is just the way I do things. I have already installed Firefox, Cortana and Outlook and changed them so that they are the default programs.

I will keep my 650 as a backup phone and have my 950 fixed under warranty, since I only had it for 8 months and it is having issues now. $250 plus tax for an unlocked phone is good but, I need to remove some of the stuff the phone comes with without rooting it.

You can't change the Google search bar. That's a widget from the Google App. You need to install the Bing app and I believe that has it's own widget search bar.

Bump this thread in a month or so, cause I'm interesting to see your feelings long term. I've been a WP user for several years, so I know where you're coming from. I still have one more person to move off WP, and they will be getting an android of some kind. I got one person a 6P, and they seem to be pretty happy with that. I've been looking pretty closely at Huawei's lineup and they seem to be offering some of the better phones lately.

I have a pretty big dislike built up for Android in general, (Several phones that were v4 and older) and iOS doesn't really wow me like WP did. Hopefully someone will make a real replacement for a WP and offer a dedicated camera button, cause you're going to sorely miss it if you actually know how to use a camera. The hack solution using the volume key doesn't allow you to focus lock, and is in an awkward position or makes you cover part of the screen with your hand to press it.

The best way of describing iOS is "workmanlike." That's not necessarily a bad thing. It doesn't have live tiles or widgets or obvious party tricks, but it's fast, (relatively) reliable and usually gets the nicer apps and accessories first.

As for Android phones: if I recall correctly, Sony's Xperia phones have a dedicated camera button with a half-press. The catch, of course, is that you have to like Sony's approach to the actual camera sensor and the rest of the phone. Personally, I'd put up with tap to focus if the image quality and the overall phone are better. That and Sony's phones aren't readily available in the US outside of online stores.

I'd say that's about right for Apple devices. It works fine, and I've recommended them successfully to many people and it's a solid phone for them.

So focus lock isn't quite the same as tap to focus. The key difference is that tap to focus just triggers autofocus, but if you move the device out of focus autofocus will usually trigger again. It's more of a method to get the camera to focus when it's not doing it on it's own. Focus lock triggers AF, and once it is set will stay in that position until you stop holding the button. This allows you to focus somewhere, and recompose your frame. One of the ways I would use it is to take macro shots of things you can't see very well. So let's say you need to get a picture of a part or number that's underneath your dash, you can keep the camera from attempting to refocus because it will never focus properly in the dark. You could also use manual focus to do that though if your app supports it. Focus lock is also very useful in shots where DoF is important, but DoF isn't really something you need to worry much about on a phone.

The Moto G5 Plus. Best bang for the buck device on the market right now.

Maybe for the 64 GB / 4GB version but not so much for the 32GB / 2GB version. I ended up with the Honor 6X because it had a bigger screen, was thinner and only 0.1 inches wider than the Moto G5 plus. Also, the finger print reader is very fast. :)

Fair enough, but I prefer the snapdragon over the Kirin, Nexus-like over EMUI, the AMOLED over the LCD, and the front fingerprint sensor over the back. I also have an issue with Huawei ethics, but since Lenovo bought out Motorola, that's kind of a moot point.

Well, just a few days later and so, so good. My Lumia 950 overheats if Bluetooth is turned on so I need to get it fixed under warranty. However, it is nice to have things work and open quickly and the notifications on my Garmin Vivoactive HR+ just work.

Put a screen protector and case on that thing ASAP. JerryRigEverything tested the 6X and it went into it's Hall of Shame. The screen has NO scratch protection. A simple house key will kill it. The bend test? Let's just say it didn't go well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do use a Tudia thin case but, then again, I use them on all my phones. However, I do not use screen protectors and have no need too. My phone goes in my right pocket by itself and I do not sit on my phone at all.

Well, I am becoming content with my new phone, even though I definitely miss Windows 10 Mobile and probably always will. Still have to get my 950 fixed under warranty though.

My phone already came with a screen protector installed. :) I never really noticed since it works very well and I am cool with that. It is not an edge to edge protector but, I have a Tudia case on it so there is that. ;)

It's been a month since the original post. Still liking the phone?

Well, so far so good. I have had the 950 replaced but now it just sits at home as a backup and nothing else. The OS is now on Android 7 along with the latest version of their interface and once I got used to it, it does well enough for me. Memory usage is reduced which is what I like but, mostly it is just a phone now and I no longer pay any close attention to it, just so long as it works. :)

Welp, there goes a perfectly good waste on money. I bought the glass screen protectors and screwed up both of them. Could not get the bubbles out and then when I tried, dust and junk would get under them and ruin them completely. Not going to bother with screen protectors, a complete waste of money.

Run a hot shower in the bathroom. The steam pulls dust from the air. Look up the screen door method for putting on the glass. It's pretty foolproof.

I had that problem a couple of times. Now I have a method:
I put my Winix 5500 in the bathroom and turn it on "High" and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I go in, wash my hands and perform the install.

Not a single spec of dust in the air doing this.

I do like Cortana and leave it installed so that it will tie together with my Windows 10 installation. However, I have switched to the Google one for voice stuff because it works better. (I ask to call a specific person and number, Google does it, Cortana only brings up the contact if there is more than one number.) Already had to completely reset the phone once but, that could be because of the major update from Android 6 to 7 and EMUI version 4 to version 5.
