Imagine being able to play Otogi, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Jet Set Radio Future on the PC. If Phil has his way, you’ll get to do just that, and the chances of this happening may actually be very good due to the original Xbox’s architecture: the console used an x86 chip, which should make emulation easier compared to the 360's PowerPC hardware. Microsoft’s game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, may also make its way to the PC, granting you a library of Xbox One and Xbox 360 games to play for $10 a month.

"The original Xbox, OG Xbox, is a little bit easier, because that was an x86 chip it was running on. Obviously when we think about UWP and the ability for games to run across console and PC, we're getting closer. I want developers to be able to build portable applications, which is why we've been focusing on UWP for games and even apps that want to run on multiple devices. "So I think we've got work to go do there, but I think it's in our future."

JSRF for sure!! (I wish they'd just port this to the PC with an HD remake ala Bayonetta-etc.)

Also, **looks around*** I like...

...Azurik...

***runs away***

(I don't know why I like it, but I really do. It had some really cool ideas, locations, etc. (I guess I do know why I like it :D ) and IMO it shouldn't get quite the level of hate that it does.) The enemies were kind of weak, and the combat could have been a little bit more interesting, but it was a cool, pseudo-action-RPG-lite kind of game.

Now I can FINALLY play HALO on my PC.. wait.. wut?

:D

I actually did hardware compatibility testing for Halo PC. :D (Mr. Pitchford punted most of my bug reports though...)

Honestly, JSRF and Azurik are the only games that I can think of that I'd want to play from that system. Everything else was available elsewhere in some capacity (PC, other consoles, etc.) SSX games for example, or Rallisport, etc.

I wouldn't mind if they did this for some 360 games, I would love some Ninja Gaiden.

Even though I don't want much for it, I'm glad they're thinking along these lines. I really hate to think of games getting lost over time. All of the consoles from the first few generations are pretty well emulated, represented, archived, etc. The XBox is the standout here, with nothing that will really run its games. (which is stupid given its architecture)

The one thing I refuse to do though is buy these through the Windows Store, so I may be out of luck anyway. :D

If I remember correctly, its something related to either the GPU or the chipset, which uses some Nvidia proprietary crap.

Which is so bad, that they even held MS hostage, since Nvidia wanted a butload of money just to allow that code on the previous Xboxes so they could emulate the original one.

Again, I could be completely wrong on that.

I've heard a number of things ranging from that type of thing to the direction the disc spins in the drive (or was it the direction the data was read?) :D Not really sure what to think about all of it. I haven't really followed XBox emulation since the early CXBX builds WAY back, and those would barely run any code.

But MS just told us no one cares about backwards compatibility....

I think MS "allowed" someone to say that, and then after a day or so of backlash, they "corrected" that statement. And now we get this pseudo announcement, which is kinda cool news.

But MS just told us no one cares about backwards compatibility....

I think you're getting that confused with the independent study that Ars Technica did.

Microsoft actually refuted those findings a day later stating themselves that backwards compatibility is in much higher use than reported by Ars. Doesn't seem like MS is backing down on backwards compatibility any time soon.

EDIT: J3RK beat me to it.

Now if only they start selling The Fatty controller again so we can relive those memories with the proper hardware!

That thing was a beefcake for sure. But it wasn't the worst. Most horrible modern controller (modern being analog stick plus d-pad) is the N64 one. 2nd place is the Dreamcast controller. Maybe the fatty xbox controller takes 3rd, but I kind of liked it's girth.

Now that would be something! I loved the OG controller to death. It was just the right size for my hands and I liked the slanty button layout.

Definitely some old Xbox games that I'd love to see. With that said, I'd prefer an actual rerelease than Xbox OG emulation. Like what Sega did with numerous Dreamcast games for Steam.

Panzer Dragoon Orta and Ninja Gaiden spring immediately to mind for candidates that I'd want to play.

The Duke Returns!

Panzer Dragoon Orta and JSRF on PC would be beyond awesome. I'm really hoping this happens and sooner rather than later.

I was very happy when they talked about the xbox one being able to play xbox games for those two. Now if they sell them through their xbox store where you can play on the console or the pc then yea I'll be very happy.

I actually really liked that controller.

Yea it is surprising that the original Xbox haven't been emulated yet. No one out there must think it is worth the hassel.

Otogi and Panzer Dragoon Orta are totally worth the hasslehoof.
I also really did like the Fatty. And the S controller.

Hell, the S controller is better than the 360 and Xbone controllers. It has a perfect D pad, 6 face buttons...it's much more ergonomic than the 360/Xbone controller too.
So yeah. Xbox Original, I liked a lot.

I really like the Duke controller, as well. I've still got one I use periodically that has a USB A connector in place of the proprietary connector.

At least we can finally play Halo LAN cooperative campaign. I never understood the excuses they made about sync issues and netcode unable to handle it on PC. I kept hoping a patch would come through, and they did until May 2014, but it was never addressed.

This is awesome. Wow.The Duke Controller and possible MS made emulation?

JSRF, Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, and Panzer Dragoon would be glorious. Hell, I'll even welcome Otogi.

on xb360 pd orta and shenmue 2 had probs, at certain points if you saved then quit you coudlnt carry on eventually i gave up on replaying both these games, i hope they fix these issues

This is great news! My Xbox 180 has a broken disc drive so I can't actually play any of my games on it. I've been planning on softmodding it and putting in a bigger harddrive, but this might save me the trouble.
Here are some Xbox games worth checking out that you can't get anywhere else:
Breakdown
Conker
Crimson Sea
Crimson Skies
Deathrow
Gungriffon
Gunvalkyrie
JSRF
Metal Wolf Chaos
Otogi
Otogi 2
Panzer Dragoon Orta

The CXBX emulator can currently get in game on some titles which is amazing progress, but this would be a lot better, as long as it's not some stupid Windows Store crap.

Xbox 360... sure but we do have Xenia as an open source working 360 emulator for PC. Xbox Original? Eh, not so much. There's a reason why nobody on PC has fully emulated that console, and it's because whatever game is on the Xbox Original has been on PC. If not PC, then other consoles like PS2, DreamCast, and the GameCube. And those consoles have a plethora of games I'd want to play besides the 1 that exists on Xbox Original.

I heard a lot of excuses for things over the course of that project. "we don't have time before release to fix that..." There were some pretty obnoxious Z-sorting issues where surfaces would flash and tear (not in subtle ways) on popular ATI/NV hardware of the time. There were other compatibility and engine problems that I reported as well, but those didn't seem to be a priority. Unfortunately for me, those types of things are very distracting. I gave up trying to argue with them though.

I was just joking. No worries, everyone has their own view on different games. It's what makes the world as awesome as it is.

I was wondering :D No problem if you didn't like it either, but I would be surprised.
