This Threadripper ready mobo holds 8x DDR4 DIMM modules that can hold 128 GB of DDR4 memory and 4x PCIe x16 slots and support up to three NVMe M.2 drives. As you can spot on the photos, power delivery is supplied with a dual 8 pin connector configuration along with a 24 Pin ATX connector. There are four PCI-e 3.0 x16 slots, a single PCI-e 3.0 x4 and then a single PCI-e 3.0 x1 slot. Storage wise this mobo has 6 SATA III ports, a single U.2 port, two USB 3.0 front panel headers and an internal USB 2.0 port. You'll notice one more (extra) DIMM slot, this is called Dimm.2 and you can pop in an addon card that can house two M2 SSDs. A rather unusual yet intersting way of implementing that alright.

They are using LGA now eh... no more pins for that HUNK of a beautiful silicon slab about to come out.

Patiently waiting on benches before adopting and replacing my 1700x
 
Looks pretty cool..maybe this will launch a little smoother than the x370 stuff. Very interested in Tr4, next hotrod system will be the last for awile.

Hoping to see this and vega sooner than later.
 
I'm looking forward to benchmarks on TR vs i9...it's nice to see the MB feature sets between X299 and X399 are comparable, now it's all down to the CPU.

Nope... down to if you want to pay $500+ more to use features that are not included on a base motherboard of X299. Threadripper is going to be fully featured the second you open the package. So it boils down to way more than just the chips. Plus the INtel part wont be out for many many many many more moons.

Nope? So you're saying I'm NOT looking forward to the benchmarks?

And I was comparing the MB and chipset features of X299 vs X399. Those features are included REGARDLESS of the number of lanes on the CPU you select. In the past, X99/79 and older HEDT motherboard were WAY more loaded with features than anything the mainstream Intel or AMD offered. Now they're on par with each other. (lots of x16 slots, 10Gb or dual 1Gb NICs plus Wifi, loads of SATA ports, m.2, USB 3.1/3.0 ports, etc, etc)

So it doesn't "boil down to way more than just the chips", it boils down to nothing BUT the CPU.

So, no, you won't really be able to tell 16 core vs 16 core benchmarks for some time. Even when it comes to other throughput based benchmarks such as .m2 performance and network latency, Intel may cause some problems for itself while trying to defeature its Xeons.

Luckily for me I'm happy with my X99 for now...I'll keep an eye on when these actually release, and how they actually do in the market. I'd never jump on a brand new chipset+CPU at release anyway, I'd rather wait a few months and let them work out the bugs and wait for the prices to stabilize.
 
LGA sockets? :brb: This seems like AMD trying to catch up to Intel in one area I wished they wouldn't lol. My first skylake build required a second motherboard buy after the first board got 5 or 6 bent pins after 3 or 4 water block seatings. Maybe I just have bent pin PTSD, but I'm not a fan of LGA at all.
 
Yeah I'm not going to adopt rightbaway. Gonna wait about 2 months to let bios updates etc... maturate.

I am a Huge fan of pins not LGA but it's all good. Just have to be careful.

I'm a HUGE fan of quality 7.1 audio so that is highly important to me. But with 64 Pcie lanes I can run all the damn cards I want Incl. My Asus RoG 7.1 Pheobus.

I will be selling my 1700x I think. 1000 dollar for the 16 core X version. Ginna need to recoup some funds from my recent Zen build.

I'm guessing 14+ of those lanes are for the chipset and 4-8 are reserved for m.2 slot(s).

I'll get one of these if the motherboards are legit and are somewhat comparable to Intel offerings. I jumped on RyZen and now regret it based on their motherboards alone. This has been a nightmare and I'd rather drop the system completely as I don't think it ever "mature" enough.

Typical AMD fanboy response most people looking to shell out 5K for there next workstation builds care more able overall performance rather then a few dollars up front. Time is money

Man, re-bending pins on an LGA board is nerve-wracking, but I'd rather be out a $500 board than a $1000 CPU.

cough socket F, socket G34, and socket C32 were all LGA sockets. agree i've never been a fan of LGA but makes sense for these processors.
