There ought to be a law against teaser videos that show absolutely nothing aside from a logo graphic, but Metroid fans should be pleased to know that a fourth (or fifth, if you count Federation Force) game in the Metroid Prime series is on the way for the Nintendo Switch. Some say that this decision was prompted by the “failure” of Other M, but I think Nintendo just gave in to all of the fan whining, since that game actually got pretty decent reviews. Seeing the HUD again makes me think a Metroid Prime game in VR could be viable.

All you have to do is say "nintendo" and people's expectations will completely evaporate.

Logo teaser trailer... to be expected from them.

They won E3 off a Pokemon tease, a Metroid tease, and Rocket League...

That's how underwhelming this E3 was. Microsoft actually had a chance to wipe the floor. Missed the mark. Sony had a chance to really stick it to MSFT the next day, but nothing doing.

So maybe there will be some Pokémon action on the switch next year. Yawn......
Or a rehash of the Pokémon Sun & Moon. Double Yawn.

Even my Pokémon obsessed kids where disappointed.

"Tries to"? They did win E3. Sony showed vaporware, Microsoft showed $500 hardware, Nintendo showed stuff for consoles people already own.
Consoles people already own? Lol, gotta be a joke.
Who owns a switch? I bet half the owners That own one paid at least 400 for console alone, no games.

Sounds like Pokken Tournament is coming for Switch as well as a Pokemon RPG at some later date. Plus Metroid Prime 4.

I am pretty hyped for those, as well as Mario Odyssey which looks pretty cool.

I liked the Mario trailer until the singing started. Really hope that song doesn't make it into the final game (or is used sparingly). Still weird to see Mario commit rape using a magic hat - but I digress.

Yeah, the Metroid Prime announcement was lame - better than Nintendo just ignoring fans calls for a new game, I guess. Not as bad as the Pokémon announcement, that was literally just a 'oh yeah, and there is a full core Pokémon RPG for the Switch being worked on'.

I kinda geeked out over the new Yoshi and 3DS-only Metroid: Samus Returns remake. Nintendo should just make all future 3DS games 3DS and Switch compatible. Even if it's digital only.

Still, I liked how the 'conference' was only 24 minutes. Some might look at it being due to a dearth of software, but I like getting a quick conference with a few big name reveals then let the companies announce their games on their own time.

Well that's a bummer. I knew it was inevitable but part of me was hoping they would ditch the Prime series and it's first person non-sense.

I just did not like Metroid Prime at all. It felt just felt like such a chore to get through and yes it felt nicely atmospheric but the gameplay was simply not there for me. My only real motivation to finish it was hoping that it would eventually get better or that I might suffer stockholm syndrome and end up liking it. I was really hoping they would stray from Prime again and try something new. Just thinking about this brings back bad memories of my Prime playthrough, ugh.

At least Return of Samus is getting a remake.

I would buy a remaster of Metroid Prime 1 - 3, 1080p 60fps only. With joy con motion support.

The new Pokemon RPG has me intrigued.

Did anyone actually watch or continue to watch?

They announced and showed a remake of Metroid 2: Return of Samus with a sexy box art.

Rocket League that actually allows you to play with people on steam?

I personally believe Nintendo's showing was fantastic. Unlike the 5-10 minute scripted demos that I would of preferred in the form of a YouTube playlist.

I would LOVE a new 2D Metroid ala New Super Mario. New Super Metroid or some-such. (minus the "New" naming convention of course) I'd even take some updated originals like the new one for the 3DS. However, I think they'll be able to improve the experience of the Prime series with better control schemes. At least, I hope they will.

There's always Axiom Verge for a 2D Metroid-style experience, and now the Switch is getting a special version of that too. (I actually like AV better than Super Metroid...)

Eh, E3 for a while now has been really underwhelming. I got a switch 3 weeks ago and really the only game I really enjoy that I cant play anywhere else is zelda. I'm kind of interested in Metroid and maybe the Pokemon RPG (actually kind of burned out on pokemon for a long time now). For the most part I will probably finish zelda and not play it for a while.

Also, all these ads with people playing split screen on the go are really really deluding themselves I cant even play zelda on the built in screen, cant imagine split screen on any game. My switch stays perma docked.

2D would be okay but that would seem a bit too old-school and a bit too safe for this IP.

Realistically, the Mertoid games are first and foremost platformers and have been since the beginning. A proper (not Other M) platforming Metroid game with some new gameplay twist would be welcome. I never understood why they took the formula and decided to go shooter/scan visor with it on the Prime series.

Come to think of it, that damn scanning mechanic outright pissed me off. I think that might be my biggest gripe with the first Prime game. Then there is basically everything else that's wrong with it....Bah, there come the bad flashbacks again.

Yeah, actually a 3rd person Metroid that plays like the classic 2D (exploration, upgrades, secrets, etc.) would be cool too. First person would be fine too, but I think 3rd would really bring out the right feel to the game. Rolling flip-jumps might be a bit much in first person. :D

The Switch is selling out like hotcakes. I believe I read that it's Nintendo's fastest selling console ever, the it-prints-money Wii included.

You've also forgotten about the juggernaut install base of the 3DS.

So, to quote you: your post, lol, gotta be a joke.

Ahem…

Nintendo did win e3 and all it took was a few teases... that tells me all I need to know about the state of the big boy console war.

What is going to sell better this Xmas.... $500 XOX with games that still run better on PS4 non pro. PS4 Pro which is cool if your looking for a slightly upscaled experience. Or a Switch bundle with Mario or Zelda at $359 which is the current price (or a full on xmas deal of $299), coupled with a real Metroid trailer with a spring launch date.

I think we all know the answer. We can laugh at the hardware specs... but games still sell systems.

It's pretty much a given that all Nintendo has to do is mention any of their IPs such as Mario, Metroid, Pokemon, etc... and every halfway nostalgic adult-child is going to wet their pants.

Having said that though, their advantage this year is they actually have a console people want which could not be said of the Wii U.

Doesn't explain how the PS4 has sold 60 million units despite having a massive yawn of a game library.

I can explain it... Nintendo hasn't had a real console for a few years as the WiiU deserved or not was overlooked by even hardcore Nintendo fans. MS has never really been great competition. So faced with the choices Sony won partially by default. lol :)

I disagree with most of this.

All right Nintendo, you have my attention again. I do want another Prime so maybe I eventually have to get a Switch. Their E3 was pretty good so far (i havent watched it all through yet) and it was smart to let Ubisoft prequel your own E3 show with fricking Shigeru Miyamoto on stage! It is apparent that after the few slow years they are going all out again.

This E3 was such a bore. I felt like I didn't even need to watch. The cringe, the bs, and the overly scripted talking? I was bored to tears.

I think Nintendo c&d and then could take whatever they wanted from it. It is their ip.
Yeah they C&D'd it, but not until after it was released. And yeah, they could take any idea from it, though not literally the custom created content. The point being is we've already had a Metroid 2 remake in the past 9 months and it's one of the best Metroid games made, so naturally we're getting a new Metroid 2 remake. Honestly, except for maybe having widescreen support, there's nothing to improve upon AM2R. I want to say it even looks better than Nintendo's version since it had a cohesive pixel art style whereas theirs has low-fi 3D with aliasing all over the place.

Beats gimmicky, unoriginal, children's games' sequels any day or the week.

I mean that is nintendo's target market. Older gamers with lots of nostalgia, and little kids. The last generation had terrible third party support and it isnt getting too much better this generation. The only reason I got a 3DS is for JRPGs, and the only reasons I bother with the Switch is Zelda, and party games.

The treehouse vids, not the E3 trailers, are why people are excited. I still tune in for the spectacle and apart from GoW, Sony had nothing. I already have a PC, so XB1(now with an extra x) also bears no interest.

So imo, the Switch was never challenged in the first place.

Selling out lot hot cakes doesn't mean everyone has one. Good joke though. How much you pay for yours? I'm waiting for target to have one so I can cash out a 150 gift card.

Oh, I saw that, and it looks great! However, I meant 3rd person (chase view) not "2.5D". I'll definitely grab Samus Returns. I think it looks great, but I was thinking more of a full 3D 3rd person experience for my hypothetical Switch Metroid.

While I agree that it doesn't mean everyone has one, it does actually mean that they're selling them as fast as they can make them (barring any artificial shortage BS that they might be doing...) As soon as they're on the shelves everywhere, and sales taper off, we could make a real determination on where it's headed. For now, it is indeed selling like the aforementioned hot cakes, and as many people that can have them currently do have them.

Are you some sort of parody account? You cannot naturally be this dense.
Can't argue with a fanboy, is Nintendo paying you to defend their products on the forums?

If not, hop off the dick. They don't need a grown ass man to defend their legacy.
