Destiny 2 Will Launch on PC Nearly Two Months after Consoles

I don’t know if Bungie ever gave a good reason for it, but it was previously reported that the PC version of Destiny 2 would not be releasing alongside consoles. Now we know just how long non-peasants will have to wait: while the PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch on September 6, PC gamers will have to wait until October 24, nearly two months after the initial release. Bungie has also provided no firm date on when the PC beta will occur.

Destiny 2 is now slated to launch on console earlier than expected, and is now scheduled for September 6. Also, the PC version is scheduled to launch on October 24, and is now available to pre-order on Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment’s online gaming service. Players who pre-order the game will be able to participate in the console beta beginning first on the PlayStation 4 on July 18 at 10am PDT, and on Xbox One beginning on July 19 at 10am PDT. After that pre-order early access period, the beta will open up to all console players on July 21 at 10am PDT, and will conclude on July 23 at 9pm PDT. The PC beta is planned for late August, and we will have more details soon.
 
Probably for the best. More time to bug-fix and balance/nerf out the inevitable egregious MMO content issues. Of course the main reason, it maximizes the hype-train and instant gratification effect to sell PSXboxes and get better retailer support, since brick and mortar stores make about jack and squat on PC titles these days.
 
Yea shitty port is my worry. I enjoyed Destiny when I played games on my PS4 before relegating it to the land of Blue Ray player and digital content streamer. Destiny was alright fun. But I don't want the port of Destiny 2 to PC. I want something written to embrace PC.. the only place a really MMORPG can exist in my opinion.
 
I can see it now: press R to reload, hold R to activate switch, hold R to open door, hold R to pick up loot, use WASD to navigate UI (instead of cursor), press Shift to return to previous UI screen, press Shift to sprint. Hoping I'm wrong, but expecting the worst.
 
Port or not, you're still getting the game with higher framerates, greater details, multiple control options, etc. for the same price if not less.
Unless it's a bad port, you're still getting the better product.

All ports are inherently bad when compared to natively developed.
 
So you slap the PC community in the face on Destiny 1, try to regain some goodwill with bringing Destiny 2 to PC, and then slap the PC community in the face all over again. Good luck Bungie...

Well, the pre-order just became a non-order.

And yes, it's because of what a 2 month delay might represent in the worst-case-scenario department.

Game companies need to stop this preferential treatment if they genuinely believe it won't hurt intellectual property adoption rates.
 
I really don't care. Maybe this is to sell more console copies because once the PC version is released people will realize what they are missing out on by not having the PC version and stimulate some additional buys?
 
Would be interesting to see the reasoning. I would initially say to combat loss due to piracy, but Destiny is an online mmo-type game so it requires an account at least and a valid copy so don't think it's that. Extra tuning maybe? I know it's getting integrated in with Blizzard/their products so maybe extra time to get that all squared away (Battle.net friend implementation, quick-join, etc).
 
Maybe they just have to meet Blizzard's minimum quality standards before Blizzard will agree to post their game on their platform?
 
You guys do realize that it is nearly impossible to make a good port in only 2 months right? The PC version probably is being developed together with the console versions, but delayed for any number of reasons:

Push the PS4 version more since Sony gave them a shit load of money, maybe even under the condition that they delay the PC version
More time to do PC specific features
Something to do with Battle.net, maybe it won't be ready to handle outside studios until later
PC version might have started life much later so it needs more time
And any number of those reasons, both good and bad. While Acti's PC history is iffy, at best, they have a shit load of money sunk into Destiny I don't see them wanting something half-assed.
 
Eh they did the same with GTA5 but longer. Hell they came out with GTA5 on the next gen consoles and then waited even longer!

Worth every penny ... at 60% of the value.

Problem is "what could have been". Whatever details have been upscaled for PC are probably minimal at best, since the source art was targeted for console release. The devs may have put a little more polish on things that they knew the console would never see but it still proves to be a huge handicap overall. I'd much rather have a game designed from the ground up to be played on PC where the developers went all out knowing they had the freedom to put as much detail in the textures as they felt like, and then downscaled it all for consoles when the time came.
 
I think I would rather bet on Anthem than give burn any more money investing in the Destiny franchise.

While possibly true, does that really affect their bottom line? PC gamers complain about everything. At a certain point, it's not even worth spending the time and money. If you go too big, people with rigs from 3 years ago will go bonkers wondering why they can't play 4K/60. If you go too low, you have the people that dropped 4 grand on a dual Titan XP setup complaining that nothing pushes their rig like it should.
While it would be nice if the PC was treated like this magical ecosystem that deserves it's own separate attention, it usually isn't warranted. We're already getting the best version of everything for less money. Console ports have also gotten better and more frequent, too. I have no desire to go back to the 90's where the PC only got 2-3 genres by a half dozen developers.

screw this game, they never let us play the first one on pc. so no money for this one either

I see it as a positive thing, after being burned by the initial release of Destiny 1, I don't trust Bungie's day one games anymore.

Not understanding the decision, though. This game's mostly online (thus drm), no dedicated servers (iirc) - so piracy shouldn't be a huge deal for it. Definitely will be keeping an eye on reviews for the PC version, starting to seem like the port will be an afterthought by Bungie. We know if Bungie is developing the PC port themselves or farming it out like Rocksteady did with Arkham Knight?

The game is playable on PC at e3 so if there's something wrong I'm sure we'll hear. Plus the beta.
 
I'll probably go the PC route. I wind up playing everything (even my PS4) in my office on a monitor anyway. Wifey drove me out of the living room with nonstop HGTV and stupid horror movies.

You bought the division I guess as well? If you don't know why destiny did as well as it did you will also not understand why destiny 2 will do as well as it will.

Still has P2P networking. Avoiding.

Destiny networking isn't strict P2P...it is a hybrid. Read more than articles you agree with what you want to believe and you might learn something.

Yeah, a game like this doesn't get pirated. It's more like The Division, which currently enjoys a 0% piracy rate. It also means the game will be bricked whenever they decide to shut the servers down.

Destiny is a MMO, that kind of comes with the territory.
 
Two months isn't bad for any regular PC gamer, as it's not like we don't have a ton of other stuff to play. By not allowing sales to all platforms at once, however, Bungie runs the risk of any negative reactions toward the console releases affecting the future sales of the PC counterpart. Personally, after they gave us all a huge F-U with regards to the Halo franchise being Xbox exclusive, it'd be karma to have the consoles tanking PC sales of Destiny 2.

IF I were to get this title, I'd be waiting for the inevitable price cut a few months after the release- So, possible Christmas present? I'm definitely in no rush at this point.

Hey when Destiny came out Bungie was Bungie, halo was owned by MS but that was it. Maybe there were vestiges of an agreement somewhere that prevented it, but I will say as a PC gamer I was kind of miffed at no solution offered for the PC crowd.

Of course they had a say or are they not the developers? Bungie makes proposals about the games they produce including possible platforms to channel development toward. They could have pressed to continue cross platform development of the franchise they started, as the community at the time was demanding, with Xbox leading the process to be first to market and PC ports to follow as they were developing for x86 architecture anyway. Bungie failed to make the case and Microsoft failed to care as they wanted Bugie to focus on exclusive content for the Xbox.

I had friends buy an Xbox to follow the franchise and many more who swore off both the Xbox concept and Bungie for dropping them to the curb. But, that goes with the territory when you generate a cult following and either decide or are pushed to head down a path many of your followers ardently oppose. *shrug*

For almost three years, I paid a hosting service to run two dedicated Halo servers for PC players. One ran mixed DM and CTF matches with default settings and the other ran all map strictly deathmatches with significantly tweaked settings that changed every week. They were never empty and I eventually passed "ownership" to a friend as other commitments pulled me away.

Personally, the loss of future Halo releases on the PC pushed me deeper into the Call of Duty, Battlefield and Rainbow Six, franchises and when I was able to return I found many of my old Halo buddies again when I joined the ranks in ARMA. So, in some aspect losing Halo may have resulted in opening up much greater gaming horizons for many of us:)
