Tesla Will Discontinue the 90 kWh Battery Pack Next Week

Tesla’s 90 kWh battery pack will no longer be available for order after June 8th, as it has been made obsolete by their 100 kWh battery pack: while the 100 kWh option was only available for performance versions of the Model S and X, the non-performance 100D version is now being delivered, which makes the 10-kWh-less version rather pointless to keep around. The 100D costs $10,000 more, but some think a price drop could be coming.

Now that the non-performance version, the 100D, is being delivered, Tesla is removing the option from its lineup. The company confirmed to Electrek that the 90 kWh battery pack will not be available for order after June 8th. It means that as soon as next week, Tesla’s options for the Model S and X will be limited to only two battery packs: 75 kWh and 100 kWh. The Model S 90D starts at $90,000 and it is only available in all-wheel-drive dual motor. It was also the cheapest option to still have access to Tesla’s smart air suspension system. Now the 100D will be the next best thing and it is currently offered for a $10,000 premium on the 90D, but you also get 41 more miles.

That's kinda tough.. The current pricing model puts the model S just out of my sweet spot, so this will make the vehicle arguably better, but the price just slip further away.

If I could sit down and spreadsheet fuel savings it would help a lot, but I'm driving less than 5k miles per year, so I guess I'm not the target market.

If you have to calculate anything you ain't the target market for a Tesla.

I think you're missing the point. There are plenty of people looking to spend $50-60k+ on a vehicle that might be smart to spend more given the lack of gasoline purchase over the years. That's the whole point of an electric vehicle.

Besides, I don't think your statement holds any truth to begin with. My brother-in-law has a Model S. Dude has multiple vacation homes with 6 figure landscaping setups. He still worked through the numbers with fuel savings when he was comparing the Tesla against comparable BMW/Audi models. Anecdotes and all, but just because someone has money doesn't mean they just burn it.

There's no "thinking" involved. This guy is solidly in the "hurr hurr rich fucks want a Tesla" "demographic". Fuck him.

Exactly, if you gotta do ciphering on a $90,000 wip it ain't for you. If you think a Tesla is going to save you money then you got another thing coming.

Which wouldn't be so sad if part of my paycheck wasn't going towards some rich guys buying a Tesla to supplement their other two cars already in their household. :(

They should really implement a law that says you can't get your car subsidized if you make over $60K a year. I don't mind a guy of modest means getting some help buying a hybrid instead of a used Tahoe gas guzzler, but I sure as hell don't like the idea of pulling my wallet out to fork over some money for a guy making three times as much as I do so he can buy another car. Musk's empire is already fueled by nearly $5 billion in government subsidies (ie, our money).

LOL you need to read the replies more closely..

But anyways that's how it is at all levels? If you have to carefully consider a purchase then it's not for you?

Even if I was dumb enough, my luck I would buy a Tesla and some ass hat would total it for me putting me upside down on my payments lol. and I am in the six figure income. Any resale data on these yet? insurance would most likely find a way to fuck me.

While I partially agree with this sentiment, it occurs to me that oil/fuel production is also subsidized. I wonder how the amount of money the government spends on keeping the oil supply chain going compares to subsidies for electric cars.

Just get a model 3
