The new Surface Pro (previously Surface Pro #) has dropped. Its an iterative evolution rather than all new but solid improvements across the board IMHO. No USB C, but still an incredibly powerful device in a tidy form factor.

Improvements to battery life (waiting for reviews) and looks like the i5 will be fan less. No pen included this time around and pricing is similar to the previous generation. Better pen feel with tilt (main reason I am interested) might make this a compelling purchase.

Excited to check it out. Been lusting after a Surface Pro for a while, but the stars had not yet aligned. Maybe this time around...

Pre Order and Info from MS.

Nope.

Honestly though, I was looking forward to this device. But between Apple forcing people to adopt the standard and Microsoft vehemently opposing it (for not damn reason), I don't know where to turn.

I guess we'll see what Apple roles out at WWDC (in terms of iPad Pros, I mean).

Still $1300 to get 8GB of RAM in 2017.

Hard pass.

Which is really unfortunate, as I'm a huge fan of the 3:2 aspect ratio screen. 16:9 gets way too short with a taskbar and menu bar.

Any other tall aspect ratio ultraportables to check out? My SP3 is showing it's age.

I remember the early surface pro threads. they would've been 4 pages at least by now.

I guess its dying out?

I think this forum is dying out. I see posts with maybe one answer or none. It's a ghost town.

A combination of things. The Surface is a mature product now, there's a lot of hostility towards Microsoft here especially when it comes to 2 in 1 devices and Windows 10 and by now you have a Surface or don't or love or hate them. I love my Surface Book and the thing I want is a Surface Book 2, which I hope on the horizon. I also have a Surface Pro 3 that's going on three years old and love it as well though the battery life of the new Surface Pro, that's caught my eye. I might pick up a cheaper new SP for the wife if the batter life claims hold up.

I've been mostly happy with the SP4 except..

I don't like the USB location. Don't care for the USB-C.
No SD card reader. Hate messing around with the adapters.
Bad battery life.
Some software/sleep issues. Most of them have been resolved though.

Weird thing I never use the pencil which is great btw. Just did not get into it, but I still keep trying to replace the paper.

I would probably buy the Surface laptop this time, but the price is hard to swallow, especially the 16GB one.

I'm sure you know this, but if you could get by with a microSD, there's a reader under the stand.

But I use regular SD cards with my camera. Ok, even If I could get by with a microSD, the placement is terrible. I have to remove the case, take out the old microSD that I use for extra storage. Put everything back together when done. Major hassle.

What case do you have that blocks the stand, just curious? You could always leave a SDcard to microSD card adapter in your camera, then swap the microSD card between the Surface and camera. I know you said you don't want to do that, but it does get easier if you do it a few times. I agree that it isn't where I would have put the microSD card slot either...

I saw a ifix it video and that ALONE is enough to keep me away... I am still rocking a 2014 Dell Venue 11 Pro with 8GB and upgraded Wifi and BT 4.2 courtesy of an Intel 8265 and LTE courtesy of a Sierra GOBI 5000 platform aka Dell 5808 card :)
