I am personally a Freebirds man at heart, and now I have one more reason to be happy about that. Make sure you are close to the toilet, and while you are there, maybe check your credit report on your phone as Chipotle servers are about as leaky as its burritos?

Hackers used malware to steal customer payment data from most of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc's (CMG.N) restaurants over a span of three weeks, the company said on Friday, adding to woes at the chain that has just started recovering from a string of food safety lapses in 2015.

I'm sure Freebirds is delicious and would love to give it a try but there isn't one anywhere close to me. When stuff is made with fresh ingredient there is a higher chance of getting sick. That said I have never got sick. Yea it sucks that people CC got hacked but it such a common thing but sadly anywhere you use your CC nowadays is at risk.

Been to Shitpolte once. And that was enough. Man that place sucks. I have no idea why its so popular. I didn't even get one of their "Famous" burritos. I got a quesadilla in which they steamed in foil in some waffle iron contraption. It turned out to be as limp as a wet noodle, it was a pathetic looking thing. All cheese, hardly any meat, no veggies, just a gooey floppy mess.I asked the manager if that's how they cook all of their quesadillas , she said yes. I told her that is NOT the way you make a quesadilla and asked for a refund. Never went there again.

I think it might have been a little longer than they are admitting. Right after the Ryzen launch, I drove 4 hours to the closest Microcenter after Amazon botched my pre-order. In the same plaza was a Chipotle. I just wanted to grab a bite and get back on the road after buying my gear. It was the first and only time I have ever eaten at one. A few week later and Chase is contacting me about possible fraudulent charges on my card and indeed there was. Microcenter and Chipotle were the only places out of the norm that I used my card.

maybe it's employees?

I lived in the dorms right across from the very first Freebirds in Texas in college station -- it was the perfect college food :)

Gave Shipotle a few tries, and it just never sat well (literally) for made to order burritos you can't beat Freebirds :)

What you expect you didn't go for their "famed" burrito. Quesadilla and the tacos are garbage. You got to know how to ask for what you want. I always walk out with like 3lb bowl of food and always tastes great. You people just must have shitty ran stores.

I never had stomach issues from eating Chipotle. I just thought the food was incredibly lousy.

Chipotle us fcking awesome. For $6 dollars you can feed two people with a huge burrito each just using the chicken bowl.

I've had them maybe 50 - 60 times over the past handful of years, a rough guess. Never ever been sick. Food is always fresh and hot. If you want extra stuff you can ask for it.

We have Freebirds here in KC but it will cost you more. But I've had it once, it was ok. I prefer Chipotle

This right here. Maybe it is a difference in locations but I've never had a bad experience at any Houston area Chipotle. On the other hand, my experience with Freebirds in both the Woodlands (chicken was flavorless) and Clearlake (steak was as chewy as gristle) was extremely lackluster and the lettuce was wilty at both locations. Freebirds may have more options (how many size options do I really need for a burrito though) and "flavors" of tortillas (though they pretty much tasted the same when I tried them), but Chipotle seems to season their meat better and my experience is their veggies taste better too. Chipotle goto for me is the barbacoa.. don't remember if Freebirds even has that.

Bullritos in Sugarland was absolutely tasteless.

My first place to have a FreeBirds as well.

As it happens there is a Freebirds right by me in Richardson. I'll have to try 'em out sometime.

eh the freebirds near my work closed down like 2 years ago so its either Chipotle, Taco Cabana or Taco Bell if I want burritoes or tacos. I just went to Chipotle like two days ago, haven't had either issues yet *knock on wood*

I really wish the US would follow (most of?) Europe's lead on this by bringing the credit card reader to the table, so your CC never leaves your hand. It's such a freaking simple solution to this problem. It would save everyone time, too, since you wouldn't have to wait for the server to bring the check, the server wouldn't have to then drop it off, come back and pick up your credit card, return with the receipt, you fill it out, and, FINALLY, they return to the machine to enter the tip amount and charge your card. Wow... until now, I never actually realized just how moronic the process is.

EDIT: After reading more details, it appears there was malware on the POS machines. While what I said is mostly accurate, it may not have prevented this particular issue. They seem to be intentionally vague on this, though, not stating whether it was actual malware (software) installed on their POS machine or as simple as a skimmer installed externally.

Ahhh freebirds the only good one is the original in Santa Barbara CA.

Every. Other. One. Blows. Asshole.

for this to have affected so many stores, i can only guess what actually happened is that a processing server at corp got infected, and all branches go through it to process CC transactions and it does not happen locally.

This is why I use cash.

And don't eat at Chipotle any more.

I was gonna give Chipotle a shot one time when it first opened up in my area, then the shit literally hit the fan with that health issue. I made a u-turn and went to Subways instead. And yes I still use cash only for every purchase. I've never had a CC and never will. They keep printing money and i'll keep using it. By the time they stop minting money, I'll be long dead and won't give a shit cuz I won't be eating @ Shitpotle

I tried to find a good gif of Chipotlaway but failed. And can't find a video either that doesn't look like it was recorded on a potato. Oh well. Opportunity missed.

Personally never had an issue with the food there. Only had a chance to eat at a Freebirds once while in Austin Texas a few years back.

You have been to all the other ones?

Hear Hear! I went to UCSB and ate at the original Freebirds probably once a week. Freebirds in SB (Isla Vista) is awesome.

I've never been to the ones in Texas, but they started opening some more locations around LA maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I tried one of them and, while it was good, it was really different than the one in IV. Maybe I'm just used to the one in IV but I have to throw in another vote for the original.

On a more serious note, I really don't understand why companies think they need to do this. I just retired from 35 years in the banking industry. All that's needed here is a POS device. The device gets your card number, name, Expiration date, and the security code from the chip (or mag stripe). Then the device formats a massage and sends it off to your bank. When it gets the yea or nay response, it acts appropriately. No need to strip stuff off of transactions like this and place it on their insecure database.

I actually love when Chipotle is in the news because it's the only time I can go to one around here without having to wait in a 30 min long line. I'll probably bring the family there tonight in fact.

You must not eat out much. A lot of the restaurants around here have a little tablet kiosk on the table where you can order and pay at. Only time you see the server is when you first sit down and when they bring your food. Lot of jobs are going to disappear soon from the restaurant business soon so you wont have dirty humans touching/making your food.

Never heard of Freebirds, they must not have made their way up the east coast. I'd be interested to try them at some point.

Personally I'll always prefer a burrito from a hole-in-the-wall straight-off-the-boat type place where no one really speaks English.

Can't beat the real thing.

These days they all seem to be Guatemalan and El Salvadoran, rather than Mexican, but the food is still fantastic.

This is how I discovered the beauty that is the Papusa!

Where is here?

Because in the greater Boston area I haven't even seen this once and we go out to various restaurants at least on a weekly basis.

When I was in Europe and in Brazil this was a common thing, they bring the machine to the table and you chip-and-pin it on the spot, but I've never seen it here.

True, but when the bad guys steal and clone the $20 bill I used to pay with, it has no impact on my other cash or assets.

You do know that if your credit card number is stolen, all you have to do is call the bank and they are legally required to eat the costs of the fraud, right?

(Well, at least for personal accounts. Business accounts don't get this protection)

And if your wallet full of 20's is lost or stolen, or you get robbed, that money is gone, whereas if you use cards you just call your bank and freeze your cards.

I've been avoiding using cash as much as humanly possible (primarily because I hate having change clanking around) for over 20 years. My card number was stolen only once by an employee at an AutoZone who bought a suspension system for his Acura on my dime.

As soon as I found out, I called the cops, filed a police report, they gave me a reference number, I called my bank gave them the reference number, told them which charges were fraudulent, and those charges disappeared. (The employee was also shit-canned and hopefully arrested)

Blasphemy! Quesadillas & Tacos done right are awesome! What I wanted was something that resembled a Quesadilla, what I got was a pile of shit. Why have it on your menu if you don't know how to make it or have the ingredients for it? Maybe if I asked for it in a bowl it would have turned out better, seems par for course at that place. Everyone just orders whatever, slaps it in a bowl and calls it a meal.

They are mostly California and Texas. A few other states in between have 1 - 3 locations.

I have a few places like that around here. Nice to be authentic like that but gets to be a pain when you try to ask a question, order something a little different or anything where the person ask you a question. I have been to a few places where nobody there really spoke English expect for a single person that only partly could speak it.

That is kind of odd that you haven't seen them before but it might also depend on where you eat at. It isn't common at all places, but there a good number of chains that I have found them at. Every single Red Robins, TGI Fridays and Chili's that I have been to in multiple states (mine being Indiana) have had the Ziosk brand unit. Looking at their map they are in Boston also. Seems to be Uno's have them at 4 locations, so not sure if that is every location there or just that there are 4 locations that have them while others don't. Looks like at least one Chili's location (maybe there is only one in Boston) has the unit also.

https://www.ziosk.com/locations/

They have this brand alone at 4500 places through out the USA. You are going to see this more at family oriented chains and probably less at high end places.

I didn't need another reason to not eat at Chipotle, but this is good as any. You'd think after TJ Max, Target, and Home Depot scale efforts at stealing credit card information all the big national places would have clamped down on it hard.

The Freebirds I ate at once was like eating straight out of a salt shaker. So disappointing the only Moe's left in the area was closed for that place.

Ahh, that's interesting.

I have to admit, I usually try to avoid chain restaurants, which might be why I haven't seen them.

Have a burrito almost every week and never gotten the the runs. Don't think i need to worry about stolen info, however, since I make all purchases on gift cards -- I can't pass up those 2x fuel points (or better still 4x) at Kroger) :D
