It's not sophisticated enough to shoot a guy in the nuts through a woman’s skirt, but Dubai is beginning to roll out the world’s first robotic police force. Designed by Pal Robotics, these versions of RoboCop will be posted in malls and tourist attractions, where visitors can use their chest-embedded touchscreens to report crimes, pay fines, and get information. Versions that can make arrests and other preventative actions are supposedly on the way.

"Now most people visit police stations or customer service, but with this tool we can reach the public 24/7 and it won't ask for any sick leave or maternity leave," Brig Khalid Al Razooqi, Dubai Police director general of smart services, said in a statement. The robot has built-in cameras that will stream video back to the police command centre. The next batch will be used to tackle crimes, and the police force has plans for a 3-metre tall robot piloted by a police officer from the inside for travel up to 80 kilometres per hour and carrying heavy equipment. Brig Al Razooqi said the Dubai police plan to add robots until they reach around 25 percent of the force by 2030, allowing the human members of the police to focus their attention on other areas.

Sooo, it's a Windows XP kiosk in the form of a tossed store mannequin with a badge and a cap? I feel safer already!:)

I can't wait until these things get hacked to play doom on their screens. :)

V1 plays Doom. Versions 2 and on put citizens in the game as they become mobile takeover targets for terrorists and other criminal interests.

And I keep chanting the mantra, "I feel safer already!:banghead: I feel safer already!:banghead: ..."

You sir have it exactly. This is up there with some of the dumbest/lamest ideas ever. This seems almost like an April Fool's joke it's so bad!

I won't take any of these robocops seriously until one points a gun at me and says, "Your move, creep."

You will have to kill me before I let a robot enforce "laws" on me.

I haven't registered my vehicles in 7 years because ain't no fucking robot camera going to charge me with a crime.

It's what happens when a country has so much money they literally just blow a few million on whatever they feel like because they have the money to do so. All the more reason to avoid Dubai. Especially with the plan for 3 meter tall robocops with humans inside zipping around at 80 kph.
