Anyone else running the Beta for this? I just installed it. As I use it I'll post bugs and junk here for anyone else interested.

Is there really no one here running it?

I cannot get rid of system notifications. They just never leave, even when you address them.

Battery life was shit until I found an app had used almost half my battery in the background out of nowhere. Never happened on 7.1.2. so this could be an app issue compatibility with 8 or some way 8 does things.

Have a Pixel, thought about it- but then remembered that I bought the thing so I'd have a phone that 'just works', and that testing software would be counter-intuitive ;).

I could put it on my 6P and I ran the Nougat DPs before Nougat came out, but the beta experience isn't great for a daily driver. I'm good on Pure Nexus ROM now and have no desire to lose all of the features it has to go back to stock, even if it's for 8.0.

Protip:

IT'S A BETA OPERATING SYSTEM, EXPECT SHIT TO GO WRONG. :D

I expected nothing less lol. This thread may turn into more of a deterrent to people if I write down all my issues.

I just got to 7.0...

I am sorry you picked a Samsung.

It has been rather smooth so far. There are a few apps that have issues, but I expected that. The over all OS has changed very little, as far as I can tell. A few changes in the settings menu, but not much to report. I would go back to 7.1.2 but at this point I am not interested in wiping my device.

How did you know?! o_O

Anyway I don't think android changed much in the last 3 years

My wife has a Samsung s6 and a buddy at work has an S7 and they both just got the update. I had it almost 8 months earlier.

Yeah, I'm a root user too and I'm sure Magisk (keeps Android Pay and other apps that are not root friendly working like Netflix and some games) and all that don't play well with 8.0 either.

The notification snoozing and PIP support in O look decent and I could see myself using those occasionally. The biggest improvement I think Android to make right now would be in improving (and maintaining over time) overall app/UI performance, and more importantly battery efficiency or at least usage tracking. The worst thing ever is seeing your phone's battery tank one day and you check your battery stats only to see "Android system" or "Android OS" has killed most of your battery because some other 3rd party app is still able to hide behind it.

Speaking of slow updates for Samsung phones though, Project Treble is seemingly supposed to address OEM update delays at least somewhat. It seems to mostly benefit phones that are on stock Android, but it could still help skinned phones like Samsung's get their updates out a bit faster too. I'm not counting on it, but I guess we shall wait and see.

I did notice the PIP the other day. I closed youtube and the video stayed in an overlay basis in the bottom corner and continued to play, which is amazing. I thought it was a glitch until I read your post. I haven't gone and read the release notes for 8 to see the new features, so I am just finding new things here and there.

The slow updates plague most non-google devices, unfortunately. Samsung just seems to be the slowest. This is attributed not just by Samsung but also the carrier, at least this is the case in Canada. Often times one carrier will have an OTA update out a month before another. I know we could all just skip and run the stock ROM, but people love those Samsung apps for some reason lol

Samsung just pushed out may security update for my gs7 edge on mobile. Phone works and does what I need. 7.0 is stable...

Running O on my 6P. WOrks fine but do have to reboot it every couple of days.... gets a little laggy.

Running O on my Pixel XL. So far so good. Some apps/games are a little buggy, but otherwise pretty stable.

I don't see much of a difference from N.

I don't feel there have been lot of noticeable changes since Marshmallow, which is fine by me. The last thing I want is to have to re-learn how things work every 12-18 months.
I think most of the changes are under the hood. I remember feeling that pre-Kit Kat Android was clunky as hell and everything looked and worked like Samsung's horrible proprietary apps. I think Kit Kat is where they finally nailed a polished look and feel that doesn't need a yearly overhaul.
