You dont report facts at all, you speculate and tell everyone else they are wrong then change the subject when your wrong. Now since it's a intel a 12 core chip is great for gaming even tho it wont clock up, your bias is pretty obvious when you ran around telling everyone needs just a 7700k when Ryzen was released as ipc and clock speed is all games need.

This is all wrong, partially answered before, and the rest doesn't even deserve a longer reply.
 
AMD is all about smoke and mirrors. Look at the BIG vega leak.
After that they are saying not this half of 2017....over a year of bullsh$% and hype and nothing to show.
Oh but what did they do, take last years models and put a new number on them....wooooooo that makes you want to run out and buy one.

I am sure their processors will be more of the same.

I look at the rumored PCI-E lane count for Ryzen 9 and smile....44 lanes across the board. Intel?

This is what I have been screaming about for years...Intel has made a model of more for the same and AMD is shaking them up.

Using pci-e lanes to force users to a higher cpu than needed is pure BS and again AMD just shows intels greed and FU attitude to its purchasers.

But like I said before AMD is not going to make it with all the BS they talk alot and don't really deliver what they say. I for one believe all the leaks are posted by AMD to inject more lies they can deny later on.

In their defense, it's been proven over and over again, than no one really NEEDS 16x + 16x SLI for max performance. Even on the Titan Xp, there's almost zero difference running 8x vs 16x.

So the only reason people WANT more lanes for SLI/CF is really for bragging rights, not an actual performance bottleneck.
 
I am not just talking SLI look at all the low end boards...yes even the 170 and 270 boards that say you can use this OR this. Turn this on OR that on.
All because of insufficient pci lanes. PURE and simple...

Only the top two SKUs have a full lane count, with the latter two Skylake-X SKUs being neutered to 28 lanes. Why? Because that's how Intel operates...nickel and diming you to death on features that are free for them to implement just because they can. Poor Intel, it must really suck for them having to compete again and earn our business, rather than just getting it by default for whatever Xeon scraps they felt like offering us.;)

Need to see how they structure those PCIe lanes in terms of being multiplexed/shared lanes on the new Ryzen CPU/chipset.
But yeah Intel does use lanes as a differentiator, but if that is it and the price is reasonabe (relative to HEDT) the Skylake-X 8C with 28 PCIe3 dedicated lanes can do a lot if going with a single GPU and could be a good proposition for many.
Yeah I get some like dual GPU setups, but it has its pros/mostly cons.

The maddening thing with AMD is that sometimes they really *do* deliver. It'd be easy to dismiss them if everything was crap. And it'd be easy to like them if most hype trains arrived at the prophesied destination. The uncertainty is AMD's biggest problem. Nvidia and Intel operate on regular cadences. AMD is like... sometimes they come out with something insane like the original Athlon, or my old Radeon 7970, that just blows everything away. And sometimes out comes a Crapdozer or a rehashed "580". So you never really know which it's gonna be until it arrives.

IPC shouldn't change based on different I-9 configs too. So something is up.

Interesting (encouraging) performance gains there. I have a feeling AMD is going to need to make it rain CCX's to keep up.
 
Wow, so 4.0ghz on the 7900x is quite a bit faster than a 6950x at 4.5ghz. Impressive

Do we know if current heatsink mounts will fit the new socket? I'm not familiar with how often Intel changes it.
 
What I dont understand is why ppl compare a mainstream AMD platform to a HEDT platform. Its literally an apples to oranges comparison and isnt fair at all. Intel probably doesn't feel that much pricing pressure yet in HEDT space until at least AMD releases their x399 chips to compare with these Skylake-X chips. Other than the low end. Dont get me wrong I wish it would pressure Intel to lower prices cause I would love one of these Intel Octocores on a full workstation platform with NVME Raid options and such..

Ryzen 7 is strong at the moment because technically Intel has no competition for it. Its why I bought it since it fills an underserved niche (of the compute heavy home user that doesnt want to invest in a full workstation). Once CoffeeLake 6 core comes out then you have a legit comparison and Im sure Intel is going to price that one competitively. Im actually thinking of switching back to Intel at that point if it performs as well as Ryzen 7 and platform is better as x370 is kind of lacking.

I see people mentioning "RyZen 9", aka ThreadRipper. Also no sure why one has to wait to CoffeeLake to compare with RyZen 7. AMD itself has compared the RyZen 7 chips to Broadwell-E chips.
 
People have been comparing Ryzen 7 to intel HEDT since the day it launched, not sure why but probably only judging on core count and ignoring the limitations of the chipset. I said from the start that x370 was not the top end chipset and I was right.
 
This is insane, and much better than even the most optimistic person expected. Up to 18C/36T on top of the IPC gain I'm hearing about will be... :eek:
 
Suddenly the i9 7920x already sounds outdated if this is true. I guess Intel wants to win the core count war against AMD.
 
After Murthy joined Intel HEDT have gotten a lot more focus. Before that HEDT was essentially just an unwanted child with low sales. Now it seems they want it to be the gamers platform. Its a change that have been long underway after he joined in 2015.

In the other direction you can see the mainsteam platform going for integrated WiFi and Thunderbolt/USB-C.

And HEDT prices will surprise most people.

If the 18C chip ends up costing $2,000+ then I imagine this conversation can be put on ice.

We should just continue buying AMD for more competition.
Forcing yourself to buy one company over another to push "more competition" isn't actually competition, it's a handicap.
ThreadRipper is probably going to win the inevitable price war so hopefully it will just be naturally appealing on its own, and you'll buy it because it's the better option.

Really?

I'm supporting AMD this time around because:

a) they are giving me what I want (a high core count unlocked processor with ECC) and are not obsessed with trying to screw me out of features that I find useful, simply because I want an unlocked CPU.

b) we all know how progress hits a nearly complete stall when AMD is not providing healthy and meaningful competition for Intel. I personally don't want to see a return to the mire that represents the last ten years.
 

I'll probably go Threadripper, but haven't yet decided on Threadripper or Epyc. I need to find out if Epyc is overclockable first and what sockets will work with each other (Epyc on a Threadripper board is a possibility if it'll work)...
