Is there a way for me to fit a 2280 M.2 in MSI Z170I Gaming Pro AC (Supports 2242 and 2260)?

I am from India and there are zero 2242 or 2260 M.2 256 GBs available here. I have this motherboard, I was wondering if it was possible to fit a 2280 in it. The specifications say upto 2260. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. There definitely is space for a 2280 as I can see myself. I read it [here](https://hardforum.com/threads/msi-z170i-gaming-pro-ac-m-2-issue-looking-for-a-solution.1892127/) also. The only problem being no way to hold it in place. Also a kind of chip extends at the back more than others.

Yeah, the only difference between the 2242/60/80 ssds are the length (and then you have single and doublesided as well). So as you said, there's a chip blocking the location where the mounting screw for a 2280 drive would be. In theory you could mount a 2280 drive and tape it down or something silly like that. But I'd look harder for a 2260 drive instead to be honest.

I have this same motherboard with a MX300 installed (2280). The installation of the larger size is not the challenge (as nothing prevents it), but securing it is. I ended up using some fishing string to wrap around secure it to the old 2260 mounting screw (with electric tap on top to prevent shorting out). Wouldn't recommend that setup if you were traveling frequently.

I have one of these on order from China (via Amazon) as I have the same board and the same problem. It may do the trick given there isn't any chips on the bottom but I haven't gotten the part yet. (it won't get here until next month sometime)

The problem with that is that PCIe 2260 m.2 drives don't exist. They're all rather expensive compared to 2280 and SATA only.

Don't exist and expensive are mutually exclusive terms. FIRST hit on Google btw. So they absolutely exists. But that adapter looks promising for OP as well.

1: Re-read what I said, those terms aren't mutually exclusive.

2: So what? Try and find somewhere to buy that, it doesn't exist as far as google shopping is concerned, I already ran into that one.

Slight necrobump here but the part arrived today, I can confirm that it will fit on the motherboard fine. I don't (yet) have a m.2 drive to put in there though.
