*****If you get this, you may need to update the VBIOS right off. It seems like some folks had issues with the computer locking up even with good temperatures, and the updated VBIOS from MSI fixed that.*****

Yes it's $2399 before rebate, but $1999 after a $400 rebate, which runs May 1st to 31st, for a unlocked i7 (still soldered to the motherboard), AND SLI 1070s in MXM (replaceable) format? That's absurd! Comes with 32GB of 2400MHz RAM, a smaller 256GB NVME SSD, and a 1TB spinner. To put it into more perspective, a refurbished or used 6820HK laptop with similar specs but a single 1070 runs from ~$1600 to $1800 depending on the model. And this one is brand spanking new.

Oh, and the 120Hz 5ms display is G-Sync capable from what I've read. Yes, it's FHD (1080P) and not 4K.

The only warning about this is that you can't return it for a refund - Newegg only allows for exchanges within the first 30 days. So, be sure that this is what you want!

From what I've seen and read, the GT73VR's cooling solution is among the better ones out there. Three heat pipes each for the CPU and GPUs, along with a couple of heat pipes here and there for what I'm guessing to be the VRMs, all cooled by two fans. One fan does take care of both the CPU and one of the GPUs, so that one will likely be a bit hotter.

It does require a two power brick solution, which combine into one with an adapter to feed enough power for SLI. It does make me wish that they just went with a single, large power brick like the 330W bricks of old - but it's got dual MXM 1070s that have slightly more cuda cores than the desktop 1070, so it really is little wonder that two are needed.

The battery is small, but can you even game with SLI enabled on battery? (maybe, for like 20 minutes? HA!)

Storage options do seem a little light for a big 17.3" laptop - two NVME slots and a single SATA III slot under the NVMEs. I think that there might be a third m.2 slot that is SATA III only, but I'm not sure if that isn't just for the model with the i7 7820HK.

Warranty is 2 years, which is quite nice.

17% off is lava hot? Ummm... don't think so.

And reads like an over-the-top paid review.

Really? 17%, pull that number out of your bum? It's $1000 off MSRP at $1999. And, seeing as how I'd been shopping around (Amazon, Amazon warehouse deals, custom laptop boutiques new and used) I actually have seen the prices of 17.3" unlocked i7 single 1070 systems - which range from $1799 new at a closeout sale with 3 units left with no tax, $1600 used w/tax, to several hundred more than this system with the 7820hk that is nominally better. And this is a DUAL 1070 laptop, not a single GPU laptop like the aforementioned.

But what do I know? I'm just some schmuck who was looking for a good deal, accidentally found one (after purchasing a ROG that overheats, and it's going back), and decided to share it.

That really is a great deal for a "laptop". I say that with quotes cause it sounds like you can blow dry your hair with that thing.

Bummer that they didn't put the 4k display on that model on sale for this price. SLI 1070s is overkill for 1080p, but of course you could use an external display...

That's an awesome notebook. It is a perfect & ready to shred an Oculus or a Vive!

I think it's a good deal. Don't need something this massive, but still a good price for the hardware.

MSI's warranty pretty good with laptops like this? Thinking about buying it.. damn good price.

This deal is still ongoing, but with a free backpack and game journal now.

Worth noting: I own the non-sli version of this laptop, and in my research the only backpacks that will fit this laptop are the one that comes free with the bundle (pretty meh quality) or the Everki Titan (which I own as well, and it is awesome).

Welp - mine came in today, and right out of the box it didn't have video out. And MSI doesn't have weekend support - yay!

Returning it for a replacement. Fun times.

Only 8.5 lbs with twin 1070s while the Acer Predator 15 is the same weight and the Predator 17 is ~10lbs. Methinks MSI might've skimped on the cooling.

Likely due to the extra speakers, woofers, and a larger battery.

Really?! Have you tried using a 4k monitor on a laptop? For everything other than gaming a 17 inch 4k screen would be absolutely awful.

I would much prefer a 1080p screen. Don't have to change the text scaling and can run every game for the next few years at max settings.

I don't know. You can pick the previous version of this model with dual 980s (desktop-level chips) for $1600. I've seen them go for $1400 used. Seems like a supreme premium for something that will be 60% cheaper next year.

Compared to a 1070 SLI laptop, a 980 SLI laptop has about 30% slower graphics - and the 10 series does significantly better in DX12 titles and with 4K (when SLI is supported) for those with external monitors. For 400 bucks, I'd say that it's worth it to buy new, have that 2 year warranty, and have that 120Hz 5ms G-Sync screen - but it may not be worth it for you or others.

If you've got a link to that 980 SLI laptop for $1600, feel free to post it up here as an alternative. For those interested, here's the comparison charts that I looked at over at Notebookcheck.net - https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-980-SLI-Notebook.157920.0.html

I have a 1070 laptop and it smashes everything at 1080p. Really don't see what kind of person this would be useful for. It'd be major PITA to haul around and unless you're ALSO hauling around a 4k display or something it's just way too much juice.

Is your 1070 laptop equipped with a 120 Hz panel?

You try Wildlands at 1080P ultra yet? New games come out all the time, and requirements keep going up. For those that buy a new laptop every year, this is probably overkill and unnecessary. If you're going to keep it for 3 or 4 years then it isn't a bad purchase.

I agree that it's a beefy/over-the-top laptop, but it's about the same size as the 17.3" ROG with a single 1070 that I tried. The extra power brick and more robust cooling does make it heavier. The tiny battery also doesn't lend well for this to be used as a laptop to be used in a college classroom.

This is meant more as a desktop replacement, and for someone that demands a very powerful computer while traveling.

Just remember - just because you can't see it doesn't mean others can't.

Yeah. I have no need for this, but I think it's awesome to have so much power in a laptop (no, it's not a sleek power sipper, duh). And it's less expensive than something like a top end Macbook Pro that's less powerful and far less of a viable gaming solution.

If I traveled constantly for work I'd love to have something like this. It'd be worth hauling around the additional weight/bulk to have a capable gaming rig with you all the time.

I travel constantly for work and the Sager I have is still a pain at times, couldn't imagine that thing.

dude is definitely getting paid to post this lul

what a [h]ot deal! /s

I hope that was totally sarcasm, because I didn't get one red cent - not even a penny for doing my own research! Nicht ein phennig! Nothing but the joy of finding a 1070 SLI laptop for 1000 off MSRP that some might like to get in on (obviously not you, you're too intelligent or in the know and can get a like system even cheaper from somewhere, but won't share that knowledge).

And my damn laptop came in DOA so I sent it back, and it will supposedly take 7 to 10 business days for them to check it out then send a replacement - putting me past the rebate window.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
