I was browsing for 4K displays as I came across something new: Acer ET430K 4K 43" for 699€.

It wasn't listed on Acer's site but a quick google search game me specifications.

From the 43" size I'm guessing it uses the same panel as Philips BDM4350UC and Dell P4317Q.

Specifications say "flicker-less" so it shouldn't use PWM. Two of the shops I browsed through gave ETA as of 29.01.2017.

Somebody please tell me it hasn't got the burn-in disease because I'm in dire need of a big cheap 4k display.

Have to say, secret illegal clinics offering stem cell injection? Drones? Prosthetic limbs banned from the Olympics for being too efficient? This is the cyberpunk future I was promised.

Given that cyberpunk is a dystopian, dehumanizing, haves-vs-have-nots kind of setting, that's not actually a good thing, though.

Thanks for posting this. Where did you find it? Do you have a link?

You say you found the specs with a quick google search. Uh, really? When I search for EA430K, nothing comes up except your post!

Is this a EU model only? most of these models dont hit the states as much, I wonder why?

Looks interesting. But it problably has the same panel as in 43'' Philips and DELL and the same problems with severe burn-in.

Are you sure? it says it has sRGB and i think the 43 phillips you are referring to is bgr.

My 43" Dell 4317Q has __ZERO__ "burn-in" problems. None. There is a tiny amount of a "persistence of a test images" if you keep the test pattern on the screen for a bit, but it completely disappears after a few seconds of a totally blank screen.

My thoughts on the 43" Dell.
The 43" Dell sub-pixel layout is BGR.
Dell image retention post.

YMMV of course. Buyer beware. Yada, Yada, Yada....

Acer ET430K 4K is now available in at least three european countries. Germany (amazon DE), UK (amazon UK) and Finland (verkkokauppa). I'm looking forward to seeing buyers' reviews on the display.

There are now 4 reviews posted on Amazon.de.

The last reviewer mentioning huge image retention/burn-in problems.

We are doomed. It seems we will never see a normal ~40" 4k monitor, especially if you want an IPS panel due to obvious advantages over VA when sitting this close to the screen.

I give up. Will look for a Sony 2015 model. I guess that is the only available IPS option out there.

Images of the burn-in were taken and posted in a finnish forum, so you can judge for yourself:

Apparently, the displays are also rather reflective. Despite these drawbacks, quite a many folks seem to want to get one.

So after the disappointment that is the Philips BDM4037UW, this seems to be the 'best' 40+ inch 4k monitor available.. Still using the 43" IPS panel also used by Dell and Phillips.

Is the retention permanent on these? I have grown used to ips IR due to my laptop's screen exhibiting the same issue. I don't really care unless it's permanent.

Uniformity and BLB seem to be ok according to the Phillips reviews.

Disappointment in which respect? If you refer to its gaming capabilities of course it's definitely not the monitor of choice, but for generale usage and photo editing I'm finding it quite a compelling option if you want a big format display. The slight curve helps in both not being overwhelmed by the size and reduce VA-color shifts. I'm still only two days in usage so still at early stage, but for now I'm quite satisfied, especially after proper calibration with DispalyCAL. I think that any of those 43" IPS, with their share of retention and BLB issues are a far less advisable options, while the BDM4065UC has PWM, so for now as a PC display the 4037 seems to be the only big format game in town if you do not want to use a "real" TV

I've seen PCMonitors.info youtube review, and the ghosting in games is evident. I don't game as much as I used to, but some owners have reported that some transitions are so slow, even in general usage (i.e. movies, scrolling text etc.) the monitor feels like a LCD working in near zero temperatures (where transitions are much slower, you can see the effect on your phone when its freezing).

How is the uniformity on your unit?

I have to do further tests of course, but as far as general use is concerned, I've haven't noticed anything strange or particularly disturbing in terms of slow transitions or ghosting for non-demanding uses. I'm not gaming on PC anymore, but will try some to see myself how bad it is.

My unit has a bit of BLB on the upper right corner, but since it seems pretty uniform (especially considering the size) and with zero dead pixels, I think I'll keep it, since at 140 nits (the level at which I've calibrated it) is basically unnoticeable save for the very darkest scenes.

Colors and contrast after calibration seem pretty spot on to me (and I'm coming from an old but still quite good IPS display), but be aware that viewing angles are quite tight if you do not want to experience typical VA color and contrasts shifts.

Will try to write a more extensive "user review" after some more days of usage and post in the official thread. EDIT: done

Found this monitor on Newegg and is OOO. Seems like a really good deal.

Just got one and it is HUGE. Having a GTX1080TI really helps when gaming in 4k.

I might give this a roll if I have the chance.

BTW, quick advice, but if this uses the same panel as BDM4350, then don't go for it. Not worth the effort, as that one looks pretty bad in usage.

Sorry for necro posting. I just saw this monitor at Microcenter the other day for $499. It looked good... but I've scoured the internet and cannot tell if this thing will do source based split screen view.... which almost every other big 4K monitor I'm looking at has. Like the Philips 43UD79 ($599) or the Dell P4317Q (too expensive for me at $769).

If I'm going to replace 2 1440 monitors, I have to have split screen. Otherwise I might as well just go buy a $300 UHD TV and mount it on the wall above/behind my monitors.

http://www.microcenter.com/product/477072/ET430K_43_IPS_UHD_LED_Monitor

Thoughts?

Also I saw a slickdeals thread from around Nov 2017 and it was on sale $100 cheaper at that point, so maybe it will go on sale again.

edit - I see reference to PIP (picture in picture) and PBP (picture by picture) modes in the manuals and website, but no real life examples of how these work. SIGH, guess I'm going to have to go to Microcenter.

The Philips 43ud79 also has keyboard + mouse switching via USB for a pseudo KVM. I wonder if the Acer does too. Not exactly a deal breaker, I have 2 sets of key/mice on my desk now, but could be cool.

Newegg has this on sale today, 10% off 499, so 449 (plus no tax for most and free shipping) which comes out to around $100 cheaper than MC when you factor tax.

I was THIS close to pulling the trigger. But then I started reading about problems with Civ V running @ 4k. Apparently the HUD text doesn't resize and can be unreadable. I play a lot of Vox Populi on Civ V, and in fact was one of the main things I wanted more screen for.... but if it's broken at 4k... well that sucks.

I've also read a bunch of things about bad image retention on these 4k IPS panels.

Once again I will put the credit card away and wait for.... I don't know what. But for a $450 item that I don't technically "need", I would like to not have to worry about things like burn in. It's fking 2018, why are we still having burn in problems with monitors/TV's ?

One thing in acer specs is 'HDCP' hidden again they got a habit doing this to the customers. I read the panel have a few problems occasional static lines and black screen nothing new from Acer

I picked one up from MC. definitely don't need it but what the hey... I found someone selling a 40" Samsung 6290 for cheap, tried it and was impressed. Didn't mean to but the price was really cheap. I like glossy too so. Anyway, I'll post my impressions...
Initially (< 2hrs) no dead pixels & the colors/text look great. BF4 (only game I play, poorly) looked super too.

If anyone wants to help me setup the colors or tweak this thing, please let me know. If there's a specific test you need me to look at I will try.

My system:

i7 2600k @3.4Ghz
ASUS P8Z68-V
32GB RAM
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB
2 x GTX 980 Ti in SLI
Windows 10 Pro

You bought the Acer? Let us know how the split screen / PiP works. If I ever see it near $400 again I might pick one up.

"split screen" ? PIP worked well enough, but I don't enjoy using that joystick for getting around.

Found dead pixels in the middle. Gonna try and not see them but f@@$@E !DSR# 3rd

and the DTC Microcenter is out of them

I'm thinking of purchasing an Acer ET430K but I can't find any details about how the picture-by-picture feature works. I wonder if there are any owners who could possibly help with this one.

I've got a 2012 MacBook Pro that supports multiple displays, but maxes out at 30Hz per output at 4K (3840x2160).

So I'm wondering if the ET430K can support side-by-side PBP from two inputs - either at 1920x2160 (vertical split) or 3840x1080 (horizontal split).

If anyone could possibly shed light on this - or even test those resolutions in PBP mode - that would be amazing!

I've been bouncing between one of the 43" 4K monitors or a 37" ultrawide 1600p to replace my 2 x 27" 1440p. They have slowly started replacing the monitors at work, moving from the 10 year old Dell 22-24" 1080p screens to 34-35" ultrawides. That's fine for work, but even the biggest ultrawide I've seen so far (37-38") is losing real estate vs my 2 x 27". But what you gain is in the middle usage and no borders.... Yeah I know they make a 40" something insane widescreen, but I think that's a 1080p so nah.

I wish Acer would take something like this ET430k and stretch it out another 10+ inches.

Newegg has this on Shell Shocker today for $369 shipped. Price keeps getting better.

Fuck Acer. Anyone who supports them is basically supporting criminal activity.

Those pieces of bitch have released MULTIPLE defective monitors (ie. they didn't even work) and then refused to acknowledge it or honor RMAs. Fuck them. Scumbag company.

Wow that doesn't sound good. I've currently got 2 Acer monitors and they've been good. Sorry you had problems.

Roll your eyes all you want, shill.

They released a defective $1,200 32" G-Sync monitor, closed multiple 30+ page threads on their forum, pretended it could be fixed when it can't be. There should be a class action lawsuit against those fucks.

Fuck you for trying to downplay it. Clowns like you are the reason monitor quality blows. You'll buy anything.

Bitch.

I didn't personally have problems with it. Anyone who bought it has problems with it. The monitor was defective but not recalled, because Acer is closer to a criminal organization than a computer company. I did my research on it and avoided buying that turd.

lol nothing like a BLUEWAFFLE rant!
Yea my X27 had an issue with the cooling fans power cable grazing the fan and making noise, but I fixed it with a paper clip!

Has anyone has any luck running this monitor at 1440p@60hz for gaming? My 1070 will be fine on desktop and games like Civ, but shooters etc I'm going to have to down the rez until I can buy a 1080ti or better.

Edit - also would be using at 1080p for my PS4 unless a PS4 Pro falls in my lap. I'm not dropping $400 for one just for a slight rez uptick in games.
