A blogger has been found guilty of "inciting religious hatred" and insulting religious believers after he posted a video of himself playing Pokémon Go inside the Church of All Saints in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Mr. Sokolovsky was curious whether there was any truth behind the rumor that you could actually be punished in Russia for doing that and got his answer the hard way after he tried to catch Pikachu in church and joked about failing to catch the rarest Pokémon, Jesus. Interestingly, the church is, in fact, a PokéStop.

Ruslan Sokolovsky posted the video in question in direct response to news that people can be fined or imprisoned in Russia for playing Pokémon Go in churches. Along with trying to catch Pokémon (and finding out that the church is in fact a PokéStop), he joked about Jesus in the video. "But, you know, I didn't catch the rarest Pokémon that you could find there — Jesus," he said in the video. "But I couldn't help it. They say [he] doesn't even exist, so I'm not really surprised." Sokolovsky has been on house arrest since being detained in September. During the trial, Sokolovsky had pleaded not guilty and compared his punishment to those who were imprisoned for joking about communism under Stalin's rule, Meduza reported.

I am actually surprised that they have some random law about this in Russia.

Doesn't look like anybody was there, so apparently making people angry/insulting them is against the law?

funny stuff

I could be totally wrong, but it strikes me that we may be only hearing carefully selected parts of the story, as is often the case when someone wants to push a certain agenda or narrative.

God is everywhere at once. Your parents failed you by not teaching you this.

It's going to happen here in the next 20 year of we don't squash this SJW crap going in the states.

I am no expert but I thought SJWs are the ones fighting this sort of thing against their sworn enemy which is the crazy religious type.

I am sure you're not that ignorant, though. Just bitter.

Oh bull pucky. This kind of crap is far more likely to come out of the religious right than the so called SJWs.

Are you one of those people that bitches about "liberals" without knowing what the flip that means either?

SJWs are the crazy religious type, they just believe a different religion.

I haven't read the full article, so maybe I'm missing something here. But playing Pokémon in a sacred space? Rude as hell much? I don't care if you don't believe, that space is considered holy by certain people. I don't have one lick of sympathy for him, he knew the consequences.

I believe the goal was to bring attention to the Russian police state....and success in that arena is usually going to get you thrown in the gulag.

We aren't too far from that happening in the U.S. if the thought police get their way...

Nothing new, this sort of thing is a constant tug of war. You will always have controlling types who will use one or more methods to try and control people, and you will always have those who resist, and again, you will have those who simply try to ignore it all and go about their lives in peace which works just fine until one side or the other manages to upset that balance just a little too far. Then things really get interesting.

Pretty sure God isn't interested in watching me take a dump. Unless the Hemi is acting up, in which case I may have initiated the visit.

Regardless of His interest God is all knowing. So even if you close the bathroom door and turn out the light he can still see absolutely everything your doing.

He's not looking in your windows like a peeping tom, he's in your heart and in your head, if you believe it. Otherwise he's just a potential surprise at the end of your own personal play.

No, he made a video of himself playing Pokemon in Church and posted it online. He challenged them and made it public.
Yes, that's what I said he did. He played Pokemon Go in church. Pussy Riot basically did the exact same thing. Fine them if you want, but jail is ridiculous.

It's not ridiculous for totalitarian regimes ... it's what makes them totalitarian to begin with.

Go tell a fish not to swim :ROFLMAO:
