if you know Asus you know they release shitty firmware in the beginning (hence the bad reviews) BUT they'll eventually fix it..This is a great price for a just released router and over $100 cheaper than other retailers (price wont last imo and it might be a mix up on bestbuy's part between previous gen RT-AC5300 and this router)
Comparison - GT-AC5300 vs RT-AC5300
- GT-AC5300 VS RT-AC5300 has same footprint / thickness, and body.
- GT-AC5300 Antennas are taller VS RT-AC5300 Antennas
- GT=AC5300 Antennas are slimmer VS RT-AC5300 Antennas
- GT-AC5300 has 1GB RAM VS RT-AC5300 has 512MB RAM = This will help with the NAS Setup or when you are trasferring large files , e.g 70GB.
Pros:
1.8 Ghz Quad Core Processor
1GB RAM
8 Gig Ports.
2 X USB 3.0 Ports.

thats one expensive router.
It's the latest Asus released..on par with netgear price wise

This is the going price for latest in router market...you get it bellow $300 after eBay bucks ( over $100 bellow everyone else)

You can wait 3-4 years and grab it for $10 from Salvation Army

I love ASUS routers. I have 4 of them throughout my house, awesome coverage and speed.

I'd jump on this if I didn't just go back to an Edgerouter and Unifi APs.

what advantage would you have over an edgerouter with that thing?
You wouldn't - Edgerouter is enterprise level. I guess the advantage over that setup is it's one piece of equipment vs the router/PoE injector/AP if you go the Edgerouter. It's also an easier setup for the typical home user.

I think he means over all, once you start getting into the $200 range, no less $300 range, you can do a solid PfSense box that will steamroll any off the shelf router thats not enterprise level.

Most enterprise level stuff can also be had in this price range, and features FAR better range and stability/features. The "gaming" router stuff has really gotten out of hand.

Can you suggest a sensible enterprise-level option in this price range?
