The Rock has released story details on his new venture: a film adaptation of Midway’s 1986 Rampage. Boy, Hollywood must really be running out of ideas if they are looking at properties that a lot of people haven’t even played or remember. Mr. Johnson will play a member of an anti-poaching squad who sees his animals—a gorilla, alligator, and wolf—transformed into those big monsters you play as in the game when they are infected by a serum.

Released in 1986, the original Rampage put players in control of one of three monsters: A giant ape named George; a giant lizard name Lizzy; or a giant werewolf named Ralph. The game saw the monsters running amok across the United States, fighting the military, and destroying key landmarks. Several sequels were developed for the title as well, adding even more types of monsters to the playable roster and extending their path of destruction into the cosmos and even back in time. New Line will release the Rampage movie to theaters on April 20, 2018.

Rampage has had several remakes for home consoles, including the Atari, NES, Sega master system and Playstation. There are also ports for PC and iOS, and even a flash version.

I loved rampage world tour. Probably played it in the arcade and various other remakes on a bunch of different consoles.

Doesn't mean I'd see the movie within the first five years of being released.

Yeah, It was a good game. I'd watch that movie, everything the Rock is in ends up amazing.

This is true. Even if the movie isn't that great, he can turn it into an enjoyable experience. I've loved all of his movies with one exception- that one he did with Mark Wahlburg. Did not like.

So wait... They are going to climb tall buildings and break shit? I liked that idea better when it was King Kong.

Did you forget "/sarcasm?" IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, etc. would disagree with that heavily. Only movies >7 are the overhyped Fast and Furious movies. This is what's wrong with Hollywood. I like him as an actor in the few movies I have seen him in, but I would never go so far as to say any of his movies are amazing.

This would be just another mindless Godzilla movie, probably directed by Michael Bay.

Those places are useless.

Will they really have the monsters climbing apartment blocks, punching them open and nonchalantly eating the people? A movie made back when this game was would 100% These days, nope.

I like The Rock, seems like a cool dude and has made some decent movies (Hercules the most recent I've seen and thought it was pretty alright) but Rampage into a movie just...doesn't make sense. It would either be too serious or too ridiculous.

It's one of those things that really just needs to be left as a game and left alone.

So long as they make this campy as hell, I'm down. This move should not take itself seriously. ..

Ya, but then you run the risk of starting with this:

And not taking yourself seriously and ending up with this:

How could you leave out space marines?!??!?

I loved Rampage when I hung out in the arcades as a kid.

Not sure how you make a movie out of that, but I'm sure Uwe Boll can find a way. Not a good way, just a way.
