It looks sort of shitty...I'm not sure I'd even "rent" it. Doesn't seem to add anything particularly new from what I've read, and the overall animations and finesse are lacking (again, from what I'm used to with the latest games that have come out). I think I'm a little burnt out on these types of games too...

Played for 5 minutes skipped some of the cut scenes this game is like The Witcher 3 with a a rifle and scope game looks really good has a Gear of War 4 vibe to it. Game loads really fast with an SSD you climb on stuff like Rock Ledges shoot Trees and knock them over to climb on some Speed Trees. Take cover in bushes I really only scratched the surface but seems like a a decent game.

Requested a refund I'm sure it's a good game but Prey is coming out next week I rather play that.

Witcher 3 with a gun. That sounds interesting as that is my favorite game of all time.

He got that out of 5 minutes and then went for the refund. LOL, not sure what the hell to make of all this. ;)

Here is a little bit more of a fair analysis. Definitely NOT Witcher 3 with a gun. No idea how the hell that comparison works or how it makes sense. In any case, the game for me runs fine however even with my setup I am seeing some FPS dips for no apparent reason. Graphics are great and the controls are satisfying. Climbing, interacting, gun manipulation, and everything about the actual control of the character is great. Even the climbing surprisingly which often is the case in first person looks and/or controls like shit but actually works very well here.

However, there are some few things that really bother me. There appear to be some audio issues. Like, for instance I was outside of a large dome structure, started to rain, and then went inside of it. Right before I stepped inside it started to rain; I get the rain sound effects which is fine and the actual rain fall looks really good graphically. And then, I go inside of a building and I still see rain falling like crazy and there is absolutely no rain sounds AT ALL. It was very strange to be inside of a room, it pouring rain, and no rain sounds at all. Just the sounds of my breathing and foot steps.

This appears to be a regular issue with sound quality (or rather not so much quality, but missing sounds). The video I posted a couple posts up about SGW3 showed this exact same thing where he would be running through water and it sounds like sand. Just seems really shitty imo that they couldn't do a little more QC with the game. I am really hoping it gets better optimized soon and they patch these audio issues because it really really takes me out of the game to be standing inside of an enclosed room and it's pouring rain with no sound. (Shouldn't be raining indoors to begin with).

That aside there is a lot of promise here, but I wouldn't spend more than $30 on this one. Shooting is fun as hell, weapons sound and feel good, have heft to them, and there definitely is a science/system behind sniping so there is wind, angle, distance and things to take into account.

The drone controls could be a little bit tighter too. It seems to be very slippery. I guess I got used to using the very responsive drone from Wildlands. It's serviceable but could be better.

I am about an hour in and will report back with some more maybe over the weekend once I play it more at length.

^^ Sounds more like what I was hoping for under realistic expectations.

One thing I didn't see you mention: What's the story on the load times and especially this "5 minute load screen" controversy? Are you seeing that?

I did not notice that yet. But maybe it's a little further in? So far all the load screens were taken up by cut scenes. I will definitely report back if I notice something different. I think I am still playing the prologue because I haven't gotten to the point where I am free to roam wherever I want yet. The Prologue/opening stuff is acting as a tutorial.

Raining indoors under a shelter? LOL... well, if it's a wrecked structure with a bad roof? I'm willing to forgive stuff like that if there aren't more egregious issues.

It's not just that part like I said. You could be in a enclosed room with that going on, and on top of that it's dead silent. So even if it had a bad roof and rain was coming in (which I would agree is forgivable) all you would hear is dead silence. It's just very distracting and is a regular occurrence such as running through water only for it to sound like sand.

For those that didn't watch the review above, he highlights that the game has potential but it is a buggy mess. Mentions what you've seen as far as weird audio, glitchy animations, and all that jazz.

Seems like they may have used a script to do environmental sounds based off of the texture material and then never bothered to correct it as the game progressed.

Fair is fair: Good, prompt post release support there. They throw out a couple more of those and I may yet bite.

Got my Refund pending not saying it's a bad game just rather wait 5 days for Prey my backlog and quantity over quality dictates what games I purchase. Plus I only have so much time to play in the first place.

Okay, this is a HUGE welcome. I actually was playing last night and really got into the game. There are a bunch of things I love about the game now; the fast travel takes almost no time to load. The initial game loading screen is not 5 minutes like people have been saying... maybe a minute. The control I can't speak more positively about... climbing, the Witcher 3-like sense, gun control... I also think (and I wonder who else agrees) the map size is perfect. It's not too big and not too small. Like, Wildlands for instance is way too fucking big and takes seemingly forever to drive and/or fly anywhere but with Sniper it doesn't ever seem to take long and I think the way they got around this was that the different missions are in increasing distances so for instance the first time you drive out to do a mission you unlock the fast travel points, and then if the next missions is farther away then you can fast travel to the previously unlocked fast travel point and continue driving from there. I know a lot of other open world games do this too, but the distances in Sniper 3 actually make sense and are practical as opposed to just being unnecessarily massive with sometimes nothing between distances but forest and more forest until you get to your mission area.

Now, the biggest complaints I have had seem to be addressed (hopefully). FOV slider is a huge deal, and hopefully the "various ambient sound fixes" fixes the weather sounds i've been complaining about as well as the fact that when I would walk through water it would just sound like a continuation of ground stomping.

One small gripe; I wish when hiding in bushes you wouldn't get detected like the way Crysis did it which was perfect (unless the foliage does help and I just suck at stealth).

Liking it so far. To me, its got some Far Cry in it. When you loot the bodies and dead animals, use the map, drive the dune buggy, jump on roofs.and run around, when you hear the enemies voice chatter and they call in mortar fire and when you rescue civilians. I have not had any glitches yet or long loading screens. Frame rates are good- no lags. I chose to start playing by wandering around. Got the retail CDs- season pass version.

cut paste review from Steam......

Just lost my save file and 31 hours of gameplay, this game has no Steam Cloud Save function either. It's just to buggy and unstable, and that has ultimatly cost me a lot of time, I doubt I'll be replaying the game even if they fix it at a later time.

If you like the premise of the game and want to check it out I recomend you wait a years time until the eventual GOTY version and maby you'll get it even cheaper to boot. As it is now, I cannot recomend this game as it's fundamentaly broken and missing key features we have come to expect of a game in this day and age.

Be warned.

^^ That's an awful glitch. I wonder how widespread it is? If that's truly endemic we should be seeing a major firestorm in the near future from everyone that got the game.

I'm 11 hours in and have had no problems as far as glitches thus far. In fact, I am really enjoying the game and think it's a sleeper hit as of this time. There is a LOT they did right with this game, however I did see that review myself and I think i'll go manually make a copy of the save game right now just in case (if I can find it).
'
Update: Searched all over and can't find a save file. If anyone finds it or knows what it's called please let us know. I definitely don't want to lose a save.

"if it's in a steam review it must be true!" :)

I smell FUD. Sounds more like someone with an axe to grind.

Could be which is why I said "if" this were a real issue with the game I would think we'd see a firestorm building even now.

only for fans!
i'm not the type who's writing reviews but this game is so frustrating...
i preordered it and was excited to play it finally but then starts the bug-challenge.
bugs everywhere. one time i got stuck between a bush and a rock and had to return to the main menu. 2h of playing - gone. seriously, when is this game even saving? you cleared an enemy base and picked up all the loot and the game did not save? other games save like every move you make... whatever, the story is low, the acting... is there something below low?
for all the german player who made the mistake and bought this game: play it in english, the german acting is terrible.

other bugs:
-the KI sometimes just watch in the sky after running behind a wall, mysterious.
-the hitmarker is sometimes below the actual hitbox.
-sometimes corpses weren't looted, you have to do it again
-i picked up some collected and while taking a step back after that i got stuck (again), now the collective is still shown on the map but not to find there, because i already did picked it up...
-if you control the drone you have to push the button for nightvision 2 times, same with the light in the car
-the autosave, like already written above. idk when this game is saving the progress. the circle in the right corner shows up, but if you have to load the last savegame (cause you died on a landmine or got stuck) you lost like hours of gaming... not acceptable.

some good things, that made me play this game until now:
-the sniping is fun
-errr, the weapons?... yeah, they are cool and stuff

i hope you fix some of these bugs soon until then i won't continue because you have to do anything twice because of saving-fails anyway...
maybe i will change my review later.

^^ That doesn't read "FUD-ish." Obviously we've got some degrees of issues with this game.

To their credit, just since the game out, we have seen the devs throw two pretty nice patches at this and I find myself rooting for this thing. I'm interested despite those issues and I'd say if the devs come out with at least another good patch or two in the next couple of weeks it would probably address some of those issues. I don't think all hope is lost here yet.

That is a strange review. I have had no bugs so far and I am 14 hours into the game. I am really liking it myself. Prefer it much over Wildlands which I just uninstalled yesterday.
