SENTRY: Console-sized gaming PC case project

I live for the weekly updates. They're the only thing keeping me sane right now.
Totally agree. Every day I'm thinking "Is it Sunday Sentry update time yet?" I've even noticed the pictures on the Twitter posts are higher resolution, so I've been admiring all the pictures' detail through there.

I ordered two black cases. Once these are out and about, I'd be interested in trading one of them for a white one. I ordered the Samsung cf791 and now I need to match.

Quick question to any sentry buyers that are planning on using it when travelling too:
any backpack recommendations that would support the sentry, a 10-keyless keyboard, mouse and other peripherals like an xbox controller.
My current backpack is ok, but only has one pouch aside from the laptop pouch and i fly to and from work every 4 weeks so i'm looking for any suggestions of bags you think will carry well for a day.
My current interest is a carhartt bag with a laptop compartment https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SV72JZ8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Let me know if you've got any personal favorites or suggestions.

Thinking really hard about taking a trip to Microcenter for a R5 1600 or R7 1700 with the Biostar B350/X370 and order a Dynatron T318 to be used with SaperPL's AM4 adaptor.

Any word on that adapter? I'm actually really interested in it if we can get one workable. Would go great with my R7 1700 when I get it.

I am definitely planning on using the Sentry for travel. My backpack is the eBags Professional Slim, and it "should" fit...I'm quite ready for the change because my RVZ02 has quite a few dents from just three times traveling in a huge backpack (not the eBags backpack).

Sentry: 13.5" x 12.68" x 2.6"
Laptop compartment of my backpack: 17.5" x 12.25" x 1.5"
What this means to me is it'll be tight but it should fit nicely. The thickness difference doesn't concern me as the bag has a bit of flex there. I easily fit my headphone case which is almost 4" deep in there.

If you wanted a little more space around the Sentry in a similar bag, the eBags Professional Weekender is basically the same bag but a little bigger. Its laptop compartment is different though.

Oh yeah and I use the Logitech K400R keyboard/trackpad when traveling, so all I bring is my computer, power cable, HDMI, keyboard, and Steam controller and I'm good to go!

No update this week?

ZombiePL said this:
We used to make an update on Saturday evening or Sunday morning, but this time it will be a little bit late, probably Sunday evening. We got tons of emails which we need to answer and also we are filling shipping forms for the first part of Sentry cases, so we need some time to move forward. In Poland we already have the 30th of April (it's 1:35 am CET when i'm writing this post) which is the last day of this month, so for us, as engineers, it is a deadline to give you an information about sending the packages. Some of you probably noticed 2 days ago (28.04 and 29 04) we have locked their indiegogo shipping change option. In few hour we will send you an update with all the information you would need or expect. We are ready with the first transport of Sentry cases, but there will be some good and bad information. We will explain everything in the update.

p.s. but don't worry too much :)

I already have so many ideas for customization. Planning to use a silver, machined, RGB vandal switch for the power button.
lh2sPyN.jpg
Where is it possible to purchase those (in Europe) ? What size do you need ?
How are the LEDS powered ? With the "Power Led" pins on the motherboard (next to all the other pins for the power switch, reset, hard drive activity led) ?

I'm in the 100 first orders and got a white Sentry. I can still edit my shipping address, that probably means that white Sentry buyers will have to wait one or two more weeks for the paint job to be finished. It's worth the wait :)

Also, sorry for the people that want a white Sentry, but I really hope the white Sentry's will stay an Indiegogo exclusivity

My configuration waiting for the Sentry :
DuSgBBa.jpg

Motherboard : Asus B150I PRO GAMING/AURA
CPU : Intel Celeron G3900 (2.8 GHz)
CPU Radiator : Xigmatek Praeton LD963
Memory : Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4 8GB (2x4GB) 2666MHz
GPU : ASUS GTX750-PHOC-1GD5 (GeForce GTX 750 1 Go)
Storage : 250Go M.2 SSD (under the motherboard)
PSU : Be Quiet ! SFX Power 2 300W (I hope it will go in the case, because it's not possible to take the fan grill off)

The CPU is cheap but does the work for what I want.
I can play CS:GO at 70-80fps. CPU is at 80-90% usage and GPU is at 90-100% usage.

9th week of Sentry manufacturing process

This is a late weekend update but this is the one everyone was waiting for: shipping process begun!!!

As many of you probably noticed, for the last few days we were locking shipping address change option in your indiegogo accounts. This action was taken for the orders from 1 to 300 with black Sentry cases. You will receive email with tracking number when it will be active, after polish "long weekend". In this moment we have to tell you some good and bad news.

Good news is we filled most of the shipping forms for those first 150 black Sentry orders and we are waiting for shipping companies to pick them from us. We have also started preparations for next transport of cases in the following weeks.

The bad news is we have a "long weekend" in Poland (29.04-3.05, or even to 7.05 for some companies). We mentioned it before and we thought it could be a problem. Many manufacturers simply don't work in this time and we have problems with many things. One of the issues is painting white Sentry cases. This week we sent unpainted steel elements for the another 150 orders to our external paintshop.

q6flpo7grromjmovsjvo.jpg

We still didn't receive them back. What is more, because of this long weekend we predict we won't receive them before the end of next week. Even in case we will be able to pick them on next Thursday or Friday, it still means we won't have enough time to check them and pack them for the next transport this week. What we want to say is that, even if we kept our promise and we started shipping process in April, we predict there will be a delay with sending packages, mostly because of the long waiting time for white cases being painted by our external paint shop. This is an issue we discussed many times in our forums, and this is also a reason why we see white Sentry cases as limited edition. We apologise for this situation and we hope there will be a possibility to compensate this delay within next weeks.

Ok. Now is the time to explain why we had this small delay with this update. On Thursday and on Friday we had online meetings with ladies who were teaching us how to use shipping and customs services software. It takes a lot of time to fill your shipping details and this is why we didn't have time to make this update earlier.

Here are some bonus photos:

Hype! I can't wait to get my case. Thank you for being so honest and upfront about the problems that you've had to overcome with this campaign. It's no fun being left in the dark with crowd funding.

Will the packages require a signature?

I never got any notification that my order was now locked. But can see that now, excited and looking forward to getting it and a new build going

Great thanks for the updates! But then the first 150 black sentries left and we will receive the tracking and finish the long weekend?

Most likely they will, but someone else from your address should be able to sign and receive the package if you're not home at the moment (if that's what you were worried about).

Once again indiegogo shortcomings show up here. Fun fact btw: when I lock your order, I cannot edit your shipping details either and I have to unlock it once again. Meh...

We'll make sure to send you tracking as soon as it's available, so don't worry.

If I ordered a 2 case pack, black + white... Will the black case arrive first or will I wait longer for both to arrive at the same time? I was order #136 or something around there.

Hey, no worries on the wait from my end, guys. I would so much rather have my white Sentry come later, but be perfect - I really appreciate all the effort you guys are putting into the detail of all this.

Ditto! Can confirm I am super ok with waiting a little longer for a perfect white Sentry! Also allows me to procrastinate on an AMD build. Maybe the ASRock board will be out soon after?

A man can wait. A man can hope.

This is the RGB switch I got.

It requires a microcontroller which would then be connected to what ever you want. Straight to the psu, or I suppose to the front panel header. I'm still deciding which controller to get.

Will it be easy to swap out Sentry's power switch for this? I don't know how large its hole is, but if it requires enlarging it to fit, I'm not interested in doing so.

It is a 16mm switch just like the Sentry already uses. No change should be required to Sentry. The hardest part is actually wiring this switch as it requires a separate pwm microcontroller. I doubt it'll work just connecting to the front panel header.

Wait... I bought the same switch. (Though the dude sent me a 12mm switch instead and didn't respond to any attempt to contact him. :/ ) Assuming that you have a motherboard with an RGB header, shouldn't wiring this be fairly straightforward?

Use two leads - one goes from the pads for the lights to a 4-pin RGB connection, and the other goes to a regular two-pin power switch connector. You shouldn't need a microcontroller or any weird jump-connection to turn the computer on then.

Unless I'm missing something...?

Oh wow that's unfortunate he sent a 12mm. Yeah he didn't respond to my email asking about what microcontroller he recommends. The RGB LEDS of the switch require a pwm signal and share a common ground, and the actual momentary switch part functions as you'd expect.

As for a 4-pin motherboard rgb connection I have no idea how they work, my system is older with no rgb headers, so I'll need a microcontroller. Do typical rgb headers have a pwm signal? If so just check if the voltage coming off them is less than 5v which I suspect is the max operating voltage of the LEDs/switch.

It's #135, not #136 then. If that's your order, then your black case was already made with cases scheduled for this first shipment and is waiting for the white case from next shipment to be packed together.

What we did to keep the promise that cases are shipped according to your order numbers is fairly simple: for each shipment we were picking lowest order numbers matching the shipment (colour of the case) from the perk stacks to use up 150 cases in each shipment. If some order has two cases in the same colour then it's taking two cases from the same shipment, if it has different colours then your cases will be made in production for two sequential shipments (black then white or white then black) but will be shipped with the second shipment of those two.

We do not want show off the timetable for fairly simple reason - it's not rock solid because there may be a shipment where we don't have enough cases that we accepted for shipping during quality control, and thus few orders at the end of the list would be shifted to the next shipment of the same colour, which for single cases and double packs of same colour is two weeks of a difference.

That switch uses 2.1V / 3.1V / 3.1V for RGB according to the order page, and ASUS motherboards (AURA) uses 12V. I don't know what other motherboards uses, but it should say in the manual. You'll blow the LED's if you don't have resistors between the motherboard and LED's in that case. I also noticed the pins on ASUS are 12V / G / R / B (no common ground), and the switch has pins for Ground, R, G, B and Switch. That probably means you have the invert the power for it to work, and much more complicated than I have knowledge about it.

...Well damn. I'm almost glad now that he sent me the wrong size switch, since I would have screwed that one up but good. A nice, simple, white-lit, prewired switch is looking a bit more appealing now. :p

I was looking forward to the excuse to finally invest in a soldering gun, but I'm thinking my first couple forays should perhaps be on projects that are guaranteed to have no chance of breaking my nice new motherboard.

Edit: (p.s. Thanks for setting me straight by the way, guys.)

This makes sense to me! Thank you this info was very helpful.

I found similar RGB LED switches from E-Switch (model PV6F240SS-3R1) and Onpow (model GQ16F-10E/J/42RGB/12V/S or GQ16F-10E/J/42RGB/12V/A). However, they don't have the custom PCB that allows the LEDs to be individually addressable via PWM.

Sentry is getting so close! I can't wait!

Got some machined aluminum feet from Lian Li too. They look just like these below on my pc-q01. Going to make my sentrys look super clean and professional.

Holy moly those feet look great and are going to match up so nicely with your power switch.

I'm going small for now and just got a plain old black switch with a white ring LED instead to go with my white Sentry. I think I've got everything except my PSU now, and am glad to read that cases are moving off the production line! Cheers to the Zaber team ZombiPL SaperPL. I'm going to echo the overarching sentiment that I'm pleased to hear that you are taking your time to make sure our white cases come out just right :]

Not sure if this is the right place, but i'm after a sentry case if anyones circumstances have changed and are no longer needing / wanting.

Please let me know cheers

There will be retail sale soon after the ks finishes I believe if that helps...
This is still months away tho...

If someone also wants to sell their black sentry,
I would be super happy to hear from you, too!
(I'm EU/DE fyi)

forgive me if this question was answered before, does this card fit in the Sentry dimension wise (regardless of the TDP recommendations) ?
EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2

Dimensions (from the web product page)

    • Height: 4.66in - 118.48mm
    • Length: 10.6in - 269.2mm

Looks like reference sized PCB on those photos, dimensions are okay so it will fit. The only visible oversize is that "EVGA ICX" bar over the cooler, but it doesn't go outside 130mm limit.

Yeah I think EVGA did good there. I am curious what the thermals are with how much they did.
