Hey guys I'm looking for a new laptop for gaming and love everything about the Razer except the noise issue I keep reading about. Anyone have any experience with this and if so a solution?
Thanks.

The noise is something you live with. It's one of the tradeoffs for cramming high-end hardware in an ultrabook form factor. You can only sink so much heat in such a little space, so the fans spin up and emit a high pitched whine at full revs. It's only really noticeable in an already dead quiet room (like in a classroom). I can't hear mine until full ramp up, but I have two other desktops contributing light noise so it's a wash most the time. Razer doesn't let you control the fan curve (which I don't blame them because their default is tight already as it allows things to get near throttling situation before fans kick in 100%).

When browsing or doing light tasks, the fans are barely noticeable. You can make things even quieter by selecting a tighter power profile, which basically limits the clocks on the cpu, thus temps never get high enough to trigger a fan ramp up. When you allow it, as in not using a high-performance power profile, the laptop does a good job at conserving power and keeping the noise down, especially since Intel Optimus will be using the iGPU for anything non-gaming related, which tends to make things cooler and quieter than the dGPU (unless we're talking about the Blade Stealth which has no internal dGPU).

Gaming, on the other hand, is where things get noisy. There's no way around it. Fan ramp up is gonna happen under load. Don't bother with those laptop docking-stations with fans, they're snake oil and placebo effect. Razer's designed their laptops to be the best they can be at what they do. Because the fan intakes are on the bottom, I set my Blade on top of four half-inch tall foam cushions (the ones you put furniture on when cleaning carpet). This probably has the opposite effect of dampening noise since it reflects the high pitch fan sound right off my desk, but I'm more concerned about throttling due to temps. Letting the Blade rest on a desk normally muffles most of that fan noise at the cost of maybe some restricted airflow.

My biggest complaint with the Blade has nothing to do with their cooling choice or cooling efficiency. It's the battery life. Don't expect to (heavy) game for very long time on the battery alone with the Blade. Despite what Razer claims or other reviewers state, lower your expectations when it comes to battery life. That said, I keep mine plugged into the wall when I game. I use the battery for light tasks and on-the-go.

If your willing to spend it, I've heard external GPU solutions are fairly decent (obviously less portable though).
