Any reason to upgrade to 290 to 570/580?

Currently using XFX 290 Black edition and 1080p monitor. Planning to upgrade to 1440p in near future (this year?).
It does not look like there will be any significant performance improvement in switching to 570 or 580 card, right?

The 580 will probably be about 10-15% faster and consume less power (so less heat).

You will not see a significant enough boost to make it worthwhile for 1080p gaming at this time. I'd wait until you are really ready to move forward with 1440p before considering anything at this point. Vega should arrive in a month or two. It would be a reasonable idea to see what that may bring to the table before making a move.

I have a 290 running my 1440p ultra-wide right now. It holds it own well enough for me to wait a little longer.

It is all about the budget you want to spend and the improvement you get from it. If you are looking for a card that last you as long as the 290 did (if you bought it at/near launch) then the RX 580 should be of your list.

I would say not significant for performance improvement. Would recommend seeing what AMD has next month and pick at least a 1070 or higher on the Nvidia side or Vega if better. On older games the 290 can do good at 1440p, even some of the newer games like Doom, Sniper Elite etc. Might want to get the monitor and then see if you really need to upgrade.

I'll add to the echo chamber: Wait for Vega. AMD/RTG has stated first half of 2017 so June 30th at the latest assuming nothing delays it (and we have nothing that indicates it's being delayed).

Vega would be your next step, 580 would be to small of a upgrade for now.

A properly cooled/AM 290/x should be pretty damn similar performance to the point it'd be a bit of a wash.
Power and connection support would be about it for advantage.

Keep your 290. I'll be holding on to my 390x until Vega, then decide to go Vega or 1080.

Yeah I'm waiting to see what Vega brings as well. Right now its either a 1080Ti or whatever Vega might be. My dual 290x have been great but I'm thinking of moving up to 4k and I'm going to want more muscle.

I have 390 in one machine but a 7950 in the other. Would the 570 be justified over the 7850?

I'd wait to see what Vega brings to the table. Should see something by the end of this month if they hold to schedule.

The 390 and the 7950 are using 6+8 pin both right? If the PSU on the other machine is capable of running the 390 I would just upgrade one card and then replace the 7950 or sell both cards and see how far that will get you if you still want to buy the RX 570
