Hey everyone, so while the G-Sync monitors I am looking at are great they are too damn expensive. There are some great FreeSync compatible models like the LG 34UC79G-B that are the size I want (30" or bigger) and have the refresh rate I want.

Can the Nvidia cards still utilize the features/high refresh rate of a Free Sync monitor? (I am a total noobie when it comes to monitors).

Avoid buying anyhthing that has not received an in depth review in a respected site. tftcentral, prad.de and pcmonitors come to mind.

that said, i am not aware of a single 34" 2560x1080 monitor that has lower refresh rate under NVIDIA. but i do know some 34" 3440x1440 displays with freesync are slower with an NVIDIA that knowledge reading reviews on tftcentral ;)

since you own a 1080, i strongly advise you to look for 32" 2560x1440 and 34" 3440x1440. money invested in a monitor should last many years. 2560x1080 simply does not cut it.

You should be able to, FreeSync becomes a normal monitor when you hook it up to a non FreeSync supporting monitor, same with G-Sync.

Depends on what you are wanting to do. With an Nvidia card, you will not be able to use the FreeSync variable refresh rate, but you will be able to use the monitor as a normal monitor including its standard high refresh rate (just not variable).

So the bonuses of a high refresh rate monitor is that many people notice less tearing and feel it plays faster because of the high refresh rate. However, that does not mean it won't have any issues. There could still be minor tearing that occurs, which is what variable refresh aims to correct. Either way, I have never used Freesync or Gsync, but I have noticed a difference between 60Hz to 144Hz displays.

Some 75 hz FreeSync monitors only handle 60 hz with an Nvidia card, and will produce significant frame-skipping above 60 hz.
