RIP Newegg, you weren't good lately anyway

Newegg has a great website but their prices haven't generally been competitive with Amazon or other sites for quite some time. As a result I haven't bought anything from them in years.

I just ordered and received a USB 3 hard drive dock with offline cloning for 26 bucks last week from them with free shipping.

I will still use them I guess until I get screwed which hasn't happened yet for about 13 years maybe. I have a poor memory and I cant remember why.

Who cares who owns the company? Chinese investors aren't stupid enough to make changes that will drive away customers.

Still try to buy on Newegg since they don't charge tax in my state.

^ this! Since 2012 I have been buying from amazon. I just switched back to newegg because of tax and their exclusive offers here and there. Newegg's price is about the same as amazon. I spent about $1100 worth of stuff this year. I would have to pay $82.5 in tax if I went thru amazon. Newegg also has offer with $25 dollars statement credit with amex for purchase over $200. I have 3 cards so it saved me additional $75.

In my case...ordering thru newegg, total cost is $1025, amazon would be $1182.5. Newegg it is. Plus I dont want to see newegg gone...we had such a good history. never had a single problem with newegg RMA or shipping.

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but how likely is it that typical PC parts from Newegg will be fake or gray-market, etc? I know they were selling fake Intel processors years ago (at least according to Wikipedia).

Using PCHound shows newegg has best price for 80% of my next computer desired parts. And Amazon isn't exactly reliable on what sellers will still be around 6 months from now. I wouldn't mind buying clothing on Amazon which I can return 48hours after opening. Computer parts which might break 6months or 9months later... I want a real store.

Was it actually items sold "by Newegg"? They have a Marketplace now with 3rd party sellers, so that might be part of the issue.

Who would have thought? A Chinese owned company selling computer parts all made in China! Makes sense to me.

I tell you what though, I don't like their site anymore. I liked it when parts sold were from newegg only. Now you have all kinds of companies trying to slip in there and highball you or parts ship from the other side of the world.

What a better place to buy online? i ussualy just check newegg or amazon. i used to check tigerdirect but they always came up more expensive

Newegg is celebrating its 16th anniversary now with a big sale. I didn't have the patience to get past page two, but I'll bet anyone willing to invest a few hours of their time could save a dollar or two off a coffee maker. Or maybe a juicer. At least $0.50 off a light bulb?

The one item I was interested in increased by about $20 (nearly 20%) overnight.

I still use newegg if I'm not in a rush (a couple bucks cheaper, sometimes free shipping, and no tax), or amazon if I need or want something faster. Newegg is still fine, just doesn't have the edge it use to have.

I use whichever is cheapest and a lot of times now that isn't Newegg. I get spammed daily by Newegg sales emails to the point I don't click on them anymore but I usually just check the daily Flash deals..

One good thing about NewEgg is they dont charge tax in my state like Amazon does.

NewEgg is still my go to store since it doesn't tax in NY. I just bought a Corsair Void Wireless headset from them and since their warehouse is located in NJ, I got it the next day. However, I also have a Microcenter nearby and buy all the essential hardware (Motherboard and CPU) from there since they have crazy deals.

NE is usually an emergency back-up when I can't find something elsewhere. I can't even remember the last time I ordered anything from them, though. They're rarely if ever the best price and it's not like they have usually have items that Amazon doesn't. Typically when anything is in high demand they're also the last ones to get more stock.
Between Amazon and my local Microcenter store, I'm usually covered.

I quit using newegg, and really buying computer parts, since they started the iron egg guarantee that didn't guarantee crap. Tried using it my last purchase, which was a computer tower. And was denied. I found a way better deal later in the week I bought it, by a good $60.

The only reason I use Newegg these days is because their NJ location is about 20 minutes from me. I can drive 40 minutes to Microcenter in shit traffic and pay 3.5% tax, or 20 minutes to Newegg and pay 7% tax. Yes, NJ tax is screwy. Yes, I'd rather find a reliable place that has Prime shipping (or Shoprunner) and doesn't tax me at all. Ah well... At least here I have great pizza.

I gave up NE, they are nothing like the affordable, excellent customer service company it once was. I hate buying stuff off of Amazon, because it's the Walmart of the internet. But, the customer service is very good.

Yeah NE seems to have fallen off in $ and selection, sad, trying to be an amazon clone now.

I still really like Newegg, although they're the last place I look for a good deal. They offer local pick-up in my city, and their HQ is a brisk 5 minute drive from my home. The will-call area is a fantastic hybrid center / showroom with dozens of custom PC builds and a huge variety of stuff to play with, test, look at, etc. At my last visit, I saw that they had the HTC Vive setup in one of the rooms and a middle school aged girl was playing the job simulator. It's truly a nerd candy store and just about any [H]'er would nearly cream his pants on his first visit.

Note the video is 3-4 years old:

Will-call area in near me (Edison NJ) is just a warehouse lobby. Nothing like the video.

I still make some of my bigger purchases there because it's tax free for me. Right now looking at a GTX1080 for $479. The tax on that would be almost $40.

It's also a lot easier to search for stuff on the Eqq. Amazon searches can be kinda flaky. Search for a GTX1080 and you get 1070s and AMD480s mixed in.

Being in California, I still have the pay the sales tax whether I'm ordering from Newegg or from Amazon. It all depends on who has a good price or special.

Order from OutletPC over in Vegas.

I just got some stuff from NewEgg in the last month and this bothers me! I will be returning anything that I can to them and will not order from them again. I am a supporter of American in anyway that I can.

and don't forget to check that the stuff you bought are made in the USA too.

I can't even purchase from newegg or their ebay deals. My account password got stolen, CC card company dispute and now newegg blacklisted my name with my address. They accept the payment, then cancel the order the next day. I have spoken with several representative and cannot get it resolved.

BTW: Making another account doesn't help.

SCREW NEWEGG.
I have the same issue. F newegg.

I just recently dumped all my Newegg purchase history into Excel, as well as Amazon. (I requested an Excel dump directly from Newegg chat, and they sent it via email in 30 seconds; Amazon already has an export Excel document feature) I've been making some graphs of the data to show how I've been making purchases when it comes to Amazon vs. Newegg. Over the past 3 years, I've been primary purchasing from Amazon instead of Newegg for most major purchases. I've had very little problems with Newegg though.. it just seems Amazon Prime offers a lot more, and even better prices than Newegg for most of my purchases. (I have both Newegg Premiere and Amazon Prime)

There are things that you can't avoid purchasing that aren't made in the USA, but I buy from USA suppliers and USA companies every chance I get.

At the end of the day for me it comes down to price and how soon I need it. If I can get it from Amazon on prime and the cost plus tax is close then Amazon gets it. Almost everything in the new PC I am planning came from NE thought.

It comes down to service as well. NewEgg sucks big time in that department. I haven't made a purchase from NewEgg in almost three years, and I used to place tons of orders through them. There was nothing but trouble with the last few ordered I placed.

Amazon and Fry's on the other hand have always been awesome to work with (Best Buy not so much). I'd spend a few more bucks to get it from them vs. NewEgg, simply because I do not have to fear that an RMA would be refused, or a part would be used out of the "new" box.

Every time I try to purchase from newegg, their fraud team cancels my order 48 hours later and I get refunded with no explanation.

The only times I've heard of this happening is when an order is refused at the door or you force a refund through your credit card company (not to say it couldn't happen for other reasons).

Someone got into my newegg account and ordered some stuff, but with a different credit card. I'm assuming whoever owned that card did a charge back and had my name black listed. I spoke with newegg when it happened and they "dealt" with it, but even with a new account I can't successfully order from them. They can't help me when I call them, so fuck em.
