Google May Be Sued over Nexus 6P Early Shutdown and Bootloop Issues

Attorneys are going after Google and Huawei for turning a blind eye to Nexus 6P owners with devices that are stuck in a loop of reboots or shutting down even with plenty of battery life left. Google appears to be honoring most if not all RMAs, but I guess the class-action suit is still justified for the 6P technically being a broken product. Hopefully, these issues do not rear their head on the premium Pixel line.

We reported late last year that certain Huawei Nexus 6Ps were suffering from the early shutdown problem, causing them to die with as much as 60% battery still indicated. Now, law firm Chimicles & Tikellis LLP is investigating the possibility of bringing a class action lawsuit against Google on behalf of customers who have faced this issue. Also included in any potential suit would be the same bootloop issue that has also affected owners of the LG Nexus 5X. The problems have mostly been reported by users running Android 7.0 Nougat, but there are also claims that backpedaling to Marshmallow 6.0 on the same devices doesn't fix anything.

My Nexus 6P got stuck in a reboot loop, spontaneously, about a month ago. This post is the first I've heard of it being any sort of widespread thing. Google sent me a warranty replacement even though the phone was not actually still under warranty. Thought that was a bit odd, but was certainly okay with it. Maybe this is why they did it.

I assume the 6P doesn't have a removable battery so you can just force it to shut down and go into recovery mode on bootup?

It does not. However, on mine anyway, I could get into recovery mode fine, and do all the recovery stuff without problems. None of which helped; any time it attempted to boot "for real" it would keep rebootiing itself.

My 6p regularly shuts down well above 10% battery left. It sucks. The worst thing is its not predictable so you don't actually know how much battery you might have left. And because it sometimes shuts down at 15% which is when the battery saver engages it makes the battery saver feature #$# #*&! worthless.

I'd hope on a purely selfish level that Huawei doesn't take too much damage over this because I have an Honor 8 and the thing is frankly bad-ass as heck. It was $250 with two high speed chargers and pretty much does what the $750 phones.do.

It has solidly filled the void I have had for a super mobile computing device. It's really fast and very stable.

Had my 6P for over a year now and haven't had these issue. First time I am even hearing about it. It has randomly rebooted on me a couple times but not stuck in a boot loops

I haven't had boot loop, but I've had mine shut down with over 50% battery left and then only show 1% once it reboots. Didn't realize it was wide spread

Had my 6P since the day they came out, never had any issues. Solid phone, a bit too big for my liking these days, wish google would let me trade down to a 5X and send me $75 cash :-p

I have a Nexus 6p, and thanks to the poorly placed power button there have been a number of times where I have pulled it from my pocket only to find that it has restarted and is waiting for me to put in the full disk encryption pin. This is extra annoying because it is so early in the boot process.

A couple of times I've been using it in -10c weather and had it shut down at 20% battery, but in its defense I was using it as a display for my drone, so it was working pretty hard and a voltage drop makes sense.

I picked a new one up literally a few days ago off amazon. Pretty hard to find new since they aren't making them any more from what I understand.

Hoping i don't get bit by this bug. The nexus 6 was out of production and I don't like the smaller screens or taller form factor on some of the newer phablets. Was practically my only choice.

Heard of the battery issue but not the bootloop issue. Neither problem on my 6P.

News to me. *shrugg* Glad I purchased a +2 year protection plan.
