Quake Champions Official Thread

Never got one but hope to soon! Bought my first pc back in 94 for quake and played q2 and q3 online forever! Missed out on alot of other games cause of it haha.

Sucks for me cause i recently bought a oculus rift and its gona be tuff to pull me away from that but we'll see how it goes.

ahhh the good ol days. I remember signing up for DSL from Teloscity out of Cali and playing Quake on a server in Dallas and I was pinging 10ms from Houston and the server admin was in Dallas and pinging in the mid 20's. He was like WTF when he found out I was in Houston.

Where's my invite already!!!

I had DSL back then too. My clan had four q3 servers and a super popular ffa one. I remember also playing tourneys on the speakeasy servers in ny and Dallas I believe it was.

Man back then for a few years people would ask me what other games I played and I would answer back and say..... There's other games???? Lol I played Q3 like it was a religion.
 
Nvidia released new 381.65 drivers, which is recommended for the Quake Champions closed beta
 
Played a few matches today and it's fun, although there's like 5 or 6 weapons that all feel pretty much the same as you plink away at enemy health. A lot more interesting when you manage to grab the rocket launcher or one of the two other good weapons. So far the matchmaking seems just as bad as any other game with matchmaking I've played (beta); hopefully there are plans for dedicated servers + server browser otherwise I'll probably skip it.

I don't understand why I didn't get a code. I signed up like way back almost day 1 when that sign up went live. Ugh.

It wasn't first come first serve strangely. They are sending more out this Wexnesday.
 
I bought a key off ebay and just now got a key on both emails I signed up with, I'll check with my brother if he wants the other one, but here is one to whomever gets it first:

Hmn, did anyone actually get a "confirmation" email when they singed up for the beta? I just singed up with a different email and realized it says you should get a confirmation email. I actually never got that on my others. I signed up within hours of it going live, that would suck if none of them actually went through.

Did you accept the newsletter/offer? I only got a confirmation after doing that on another email.

Yeah on all three. So hmn. Shit. Not in my spam either. I don't delete anything without checking what it is first, so the chances i did that are about zero. They are zero really. Shit shit shit.

Edit: Ok. Did it again with extensions all turned off got instant confirmation. Damnit. All i was blocking was like Twitter and Facebook shit. Great.

Edit Again: Actually i don't even know if that mattered. I redid all my emails again and they still didn't work. Only the last one. Well, got one anyway.

The game is not bad per se but it's not a classic like 2,3, or even 4 imo. It needs work. The spell stuff needs an option for completely disabled, FOV needs to go further, needs a console and more tweakability, and wheres an actual server list like UT??? It can be fun but the new UT stays more true to fans imo. This game is not memorable and does not have a single memorable moment imo.

Sounds like it has a decent base then. Hopefully it's a case of them showing one very focused aspect like they did with the Doom MP, and then release something much more fully featured. Personally, I'd like to be able to run my own server on a LAN, and not have to go through a web interface if I want to play local-only with friends, but I don't think that's the way things are headed. Companies tend to like full control of their stuff these days. ***grumble***
 
I just got done playing for a few hours, it's not bad at all. It just seems more like a high school reunion of the "champions" rather than a new direction in the seriest. I'm looking forward to a nice competitive 1v1 of it and then we'll see. Right now it's a good masher to test reflexes or certain shots. But way too many machine guns and the rail zoom has GOT to go....as does the annoying "ive got to get the hell out of here, these sonofabitches are torturing me" every two minutes. WTF?!

Got my closed beta key today. The game's decent with okay level design though I'm not a fan of the F2P unlock model.
 
So far liking the feel. Still getting used to the new abilities. One map is a q3 rehash and the other I think maybe q4 or something. Health wise, feels almost balanced. Weapons have a good feel to them, lightning gun not quite like q3. I mean, if you turned the graphics simple, the lg was point and click death, where if you had the eye candy on it was lag city. Still some odd ball plays ie; back is turned to you but they still kill you. Really shitty spawns; I've ended up in the middle of combat multiple times which I despise.
 
Game is a blast. It's faster than Doom and more akin to the old school gameplay. Just finished my first deathmatch game and went 42-25, winning the match! :)

Yup. This definitely feels like a proper Quake game.
 
I just don't see this game doing well outside a niche of players. The people that wanted small group games already migrated to Overwatch and this seems too little too late. Great for nostalgia and all but it won't have much staying power IMO.
